it's cylical, comes and goes. when i'm on a roll i gotta write, and at my best moments the stuff i do writes itself, or seems to. then i get into a rut and don't/can't write anything worth sh_t for months...some writers have a lot of discipline, set aside time everyday to write a certain quota...maybe 1000 words a day, or whatever...but i don't like forcing things. i prefer to let it come...kumbaga let the spirit move me as it will...but that kind of attitude isn't for everyone, cuz it lead to laziness. i rationalize it by saying i'm writing it all inside my head. when it's been all done in there, in my skull, i take out my pen (actually i open up a word processing program) and write it all down.

Wink

may fetishes din kasi ako...

i have to use a black pen, or a gel pen na blank yung ink for that matter. tapos yung papel, yung sa papelmelroti. if not, i can't seem to find any motivation to write. and i write better and more ideas seem to flow pag ginagamit ko yung pc...

...and i luv to write on the last minute (that is pag may deadline...) napipiga talaga yung utak ko. and a long sleep afterwards...

writing keeps me alive... it's as essential to me as breathing... i've tried doing a lot of things but i haven't been as dedicated as i have been with writing....

i have to do it every day.. aside from the stuff that gets printed in the paper and magazines, i find it fulfilling to write poetry and fiction... even if very few people get to read that.... i keep a journal too....

i always need my little notebooks and my pilot sign pens in my bag...

i get that overwhelming urge to write in the weirdest places... sometimes right in the middle of dinner... or while i'm about to board the bus.... or in a cab... or while i'm out with my friends.. sometimes while i'm half asleep... and i can't not write... i have to satisfy that urge right there.... because if i let it go, i would lose it completely....

Thumbs up

It is not my main passion, but a passion nevertheless. I create expository non-fiction, since stories are quite beyond my explanatin. I write to explain and make things clear.

I love to write. I have to write. Whether its something profound or mundane, doesn't matter.

I keep a journal. dapat maganda yung paper and i use black sign pen/jell pen. if i don't like how my penmanship looks, i'll tear out the page and write it again. hehe. OC ba?

I always have a small notebook and a pen in my bag just in case i get an idea while i'm out doing whatever... inspiration strikes at the weirdest times.

I also have sheets of paper and a pen near my bed in case i dream of something and i just jot that down even before i open my eyes and hope that i understand what it means when i'm fully conscious.

As for getting published, I'm not yet ready for that. Right now, i'm just writing for me... to get it out of my chest and maybe let a handful of friends read my work.

I've been writing for the past 10 years. Those ten years have made me what I am today. Funny because I still keep my compositions of the yesteryears. Although finding blunders and grammatical errors here and there, I find everything a blessing indeed.

I have been part of the school publication during my GS, HS and College years. Been through a lot of course, and that paved my way to several achievements and distinctions.

Perhaps the culmination of all these, is my life-long dream of having my own book someday.

I'd like to quote Rilke who so beautifully articulated how it is like to have passion for writing in Letters to a Young Poet

This is what he said about the vocation of writing.

"There is only one thing you should do. Go into yourself. Find out the reason that commands you to write; see whether it has spread its roots into the very depths of your heart; confess to yourself whether you would have to die if you were forbidden to write. This most of all: ask yourself in the most silent hour of your night: must I write? Dig into yourself for a deep answer. And if this answer rings out of assent, if you meet this solemn question with a strong, simple "I must," then build your life in accordance to this necessity; your whole life, even into its humblest and most indifferent hour, must become a sign and witness to this impulse."

Reference: Rainer Maria Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet translated by Stephen Mitchell

I love writing as well.

I keep a journal and there I express my deepest frustrations.

I am very passionate in writing poetry.

I love using imagery in my poems in order to depict an emotion. here is an example...

I am a straggler
In the white wilderness of cruelty
Traversing across the vastness
This is my reality

An avalanche of sorrows traps me
This is my private confine of despair

The gentle white snow betrayed me
It is not as innocent as it looks
In fact it is a menacing killer
Its coldness numbs me
A frigid death

I, too, have my fetishes!

I like using sign pens (I hate light inks) and I prefer nice papers... basta malinis, fresh, and white.

But I keep a journal... I buy them at Miguel Castro... yung sa SM! Sobrang okay... kasi parang maka-luma yung papel niya... yung recycled na brown (i only use this pang-journal) and you can choose whether may line o wala ang gusto mo.

I write poems, and essays, too.

This serves as my outlet! I write when I'm happy about something, or when I'm sad or when I'm angry. But mostly when I'm sad!

i love writing...write or die! there's a time when i'm so hooked up on writing on my friend's legs. i also write on handkerchiefs, shoes, and mirrors. my favorite pen are those with blue ink.
i'm so inspired to write during exams especially when i really don't know the answer.

Uhhhhhmmmmmmmmm...

I write too. Big surprise.

As for equipment, I have this black notebook with black pages that I simply adore. I jot down my prize (?) poems in it with a silver gel pen. Just wanted to be unique. I gave a special someone a notebook like that, though...

Hah. Talk about being "unique".

i belong here. i envy some of you guys with the fetishes. i still don't know how to psyche myself up. writing comes to me almost like an accident. i read somewhere that inspiration--that moment you're struck by a brilliant idea--is a gift; but to turn this into something whole, you need discipline. that's the actual work.

sometimes, i make up excuses for myself. i need the right environment. i need to be at a certain frame of my mind.

sometimes, i think that what separates the great writers from the mediocre ones is sheer courage and discipline.

i think writers need to be around writers for motivation. why don't we have a get-together?

My OCDs and fetishes depend on what kind of piece I'm writing. If it's a short story or a poem, I want a freshly sharpened pencil or a Pilot ballpen and a notebook with fresh, white lined paper (the kind of paper which really makes your handwriting look neat).

For articles and papers, I want to type it directly on the computer. Usually, my creative juices only come out a few hours before the deadline. So, if you give me three weeks to write and force me to write immediately, it probably won't be as good as the "rush" paper. The time pressure forces me to write well. I don't know why I became like this. I gather it must be a habit I got from writing news articles for my school paper. News articles are always written right before the deadline.

Hmm...about your suggestion, angelicDAW--I think that would be really nice.
