I've been in the hobby for more than 15 years now and to date only know a handful of people who are also in the hobby.

Hope this will be a venue of resource information, places to get the kits, paints, accessories etc.

I've also been building model kits for quite some time now. I'm more into modern jet aircrafts. I haven't painted mine yet, am waiting until we move into our new house so I'll have ample space to display them. Right now, I just build them and set them aside, least for now it allows me 3 dimensional view of the actual aircraft, complete with the details.

I've done some model aircraft, ships and gundams.

    My list includes
    Aircraft(1/72) : F-16 Falcon/F-14 Tomcat/FA-18 Hornet/F4UCorsair/A-10 Thunderbolt/F-15 Eagle/Sopwith Camel/EA-6 Prowler/F-4 Phanthom/Corsair II (which crashed)/Naboo Fighter

    Ships : (Waterline) IJN Nagara/IJN Akagi/IJN Tone/USS Hornet
(1/350) IJN Yamato (undergoing conversion to RC)

    Gundam : (Stardust Memory)RX-72-GP01Fb/ RX-72-GP02

I plan on creating a Battle of Midway diorama and I have yet to get 5 more WWII carriers.

I haven't tried tanks yet but this one caught my eye. It's a Tamiya kit. The FAMO (truck) is already available at Lil's. It's quite pricey though.

I prefer my planes to be in 1/48th scale, para kitang-kita ang detail. I try to budget my scale models to around P500 max since I feel that if I spend more than that for a plastic model, it would be too much already.

    I've built quite a lot of model planes over the last couple of years, recently though most of my models are from the Academy brand. Among them are : MIG-21MF, Hawker Hunter F.9, MIG-29A, F-86F, F-16C, Mirage IIIC (Academy); Mirage 2000, F-14A Tomcat, F-4C Phantom, A6E Intruder (Revell); F-15A Eagle, Sea Harrier (Tamiya); F-18A Hornet, Kfir C2 (Italieri); MIG-17F, MIG-27 (some Korean brand);

I was fortunate enough to go to China one time, and I was able to buy a SU-27 and F-111 under some chinese brand. They were huge, and it costs me only the equivalent of around P300. They weren't very good, though, the fit of the parts tend to be mediocre most of the time so you have to use a lot of putty here and there.

Hey There! Good God such a relief na people like you exist! Sobra wala pa ako mashado nakikita na "model-kit" enthusiasts. I mean, I pass by Lil's, a shop in Katipunan, i think it's called RG's, sa Specialty Toy Store(both branches, Virra Mall and Festival). Puro RC people, and I'm not opt to shelling out that kind of money, I even saw one helicopter enthusiast in Lil's! Easy lang! ang mahal pare!

Hmm..wala lang, I'm a Car enthusiast by the way. Thinking on shifting to WWII stuff, hirap kasi nang Cars, sobra perfectionist dapat, unlike War stuff, you've got the freedom, not na di kayo perfectionists ha...pero I like going down and dirty compared to spending over a month on a VW Beetle and just thrashing the project because a small air-bubble formed on the hood! Argh!

You guys heard of IPMS? if so, may local chapter ba? Thanks!

Well models sell at an average of 500+ Php. Depends on what model yan ha. Cars yang sinasabi ko, I'm not familiar with the other types. Pretty much the same siguro. Resin Models(anime, superheroes etc.) can sell for as low as 350, pero average ata is around 700+. Sobra mahal dito hellicopter set, 40,000 for the helicopter, and 65,000 for the remote. Average qulaity models pa lang ata yan.

I used to love building plastic model kits when I was 12-14 years old. I would build all kinds of planes, from jet fighters to airliners, to cars, tanks, and figures.
There used to be just a handful of shops in Makati where I would buy them. There was a shop in the Maranaw building in the Makati Commercial Center; also one at the shopping building behind Makati Supermart; and also one at the Makati Cinema Square right across the street from my school.
Once, I even found model kits of a Philippine Jeepney, and a Philippine Airlines Boeing 707.

Helloö I'm thinking about taking up the hobby myself, but I'm not really sure as to how to start. I'm interested in car models (e.g. Impreza, Skyline, F1). What stuff do I need to get, like cutters, paint, etc and where could I get them at a good price (ang mamahal eh!!!)?

Hey there, well I'm into cars right now, it's a really nice "genre"? hmm well think this: you can customize your cars(make the wheels larger, the hood lower etc.) whatever is in your mind. Well i suggest you start with the "lower"-end models, try not to splurge with the "BIG" names, they cost pretty much higher than their counterparts. Try going for older model cars, although sometimes they cost more. Basta i suggest, practice ka muna, it's pretty hard ren, specially the painting part. and of course "when" to stick the pieces, medyo "patient" ka dapat.

About the cutters, yeah i suggest get yourself a cutter(costs around 100 pesos). Sa paint, well this is a part where you really invest in, pero if you want to cut down expenses, try going for your paint scheme, something which involves less colours. Hmmm get also "nice" glue. It's really a great thing to have "thin" glue para ok yung itsura. Also invest in "putty", I'll leave for you to discover the "wonders" of putty.

Eto: search for this guy sa http://www.google.com(sorry kung advertisment). "Korkut Varol", he's got one of the most comprehensive web-page regarding scale cars i've seen, baka ma overhelm ka nga eh. Good luck! Hope you enjoy!

Another question though, where's a good place to buy model kits (i.e. more bang for my buck)?

Hmm the bang for your buck ha? Depends, never did try to compare prices on things, usually cars ang bili ko kaya I have no ideas about other models. Pero one thing about prices, when you really like a model, pare! baka di mo mapigilan ang pag-bunot nang wallet mo! hehehe, chaka usually older models cost more, but have less quality(decals lang ha). Pero sobra worth it. Like this Fujimi Mercedes SLK I bought, It was a 1980 model, compared to the Mercedes Model 1993. The 1980 sold for like 800Php the other one for like 450. Hehe, laki noh? Basta ganyan yan, depends ren sa brand.

Pero if you want to start on prices, hmm, I've had good prices in Festival, reasonable yan. Sa Glorietta ok ren, kaso medyo di maganda selection sa cars, sa war stuff sobra laki selection. Tapos try the one in Katipunan. Ok dun! and i think the Lil's in Megamall has good car choices.

Sa gamitnaman(putty, glue, soldering gun..etc.) try to opt for the True-Value and other hardware shops around here, pero pag mga glue and paint. I think the Tamiya-brand stuff you see in the store comes highly recommended, yang ang hassle sa modeling, mahal mga supplies, you really have to splurge!

Buti ka pa may sweldo na, ako asa pa sa allowance and savings ko..hehehe, pero i learn to improvise, like instead of buying a model, i try to make do with a few sheets of styrene and get crazy with putty and glue! hehehe, good luck!

Hey there, teka anong klase nang resin kits hanap mo? Hmm, if I'm not mistaken, you might want to check out Festival Mall. Last time I checked they had resin kits of Movie-Characters and the usual anime. If you're lucky they have these resin kits of the race-bike-thingies of "Star Wars: Phantom Menace". Astig!

They go for as low as 500, tapos highest price I saw was 1,500++ you might want to check it out, ok mga selection nila.

Name of Store: "Specialty Toy Store"
Where: Festival Mall, I think it's somewhere near an Audio/Video Store. I forget which part of the mall. Basta go up an escalator, it's going to be probably on your right side.

    Good LucK!

Hmm, I'm really not familiar with the "model-types" not much of anime'/japanese stuff fan. Although, yeah these things really look nice when finished. Regarding the places. Sa alam ko sa virra mall, I think specialty toy center was one of the stores victimized during the fire, I'm not sure though, check it out. Pero one thing I noticed is that mas mahal prices nila dito. I dunno ha, pero I compared prices with the branch in Festival. Ganun. Pero sa cars nga lang ko kinompare. Try mo! Ok? Taga saan ka ba? May skyway naman kaya dein yan malayo! hehe, go there on a Sunday para iwas trapiko.

Sa SM North Edsa. Hmm now that's a place I haven't checked out in a while. So dein ako makakapag-salita about that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, robots ba yan? Cuz if they are, chances are nasa Festival yan(sorry ha, biased ba? South person kasi ako eh.) Basta you might want to check it out.

    Good luck!
