lol the most muscle you can get in a week is just 1 pound and that is with a very perfect nutrition and very perfect training. and this varies pa with your age and alot of other stuff! also very good recovery and A+ nutrition, most people wont even go near in reaching that 1 lbs of LBM in a week!. nga pala whey protein is not an A+ nutrition. you get the same amount of the complete 20 amino acids of it na parang kumain ka lang ng chicken breast, with a downside ofcourse. chicken breast has a thermic effect(wow bonus! may fat burning thermic effect pa ang real proteins!!) while whey protein doesnt, o luge ka na kagad sa thermic effect tapos ang mamahal pa! also I think kaya gustong gusto ng tao ang whey and supplements kasi akala nila they can skip the whole "count calories, macronutrient ratios and right eating etc etc" dead wrong! this idea just slows your true progress! and my gadd dont even get me started with fat burners!!

I agree with most of your points, especially with the emphasis on supplementation when diet isn't in check. However, I have to refute your stand re: solid protein sources vs whey in terms of thermic effect. Here's a Q and A post from Layne Norton:

A:there is no ideal ratio. despite what broscientists think there is nothing wrong with shakes unless you have some sort of allergy to whey/lactose/etc. The idea is you spend more energy digesting whole foods but I have yet to see any data that shows whole foods on the whole have a significantly bigger impact on thermic effect of food than shakes. But for a second let's pretend they do just for arguments sake, even if that were the case, whey protein has been shown to be significantly more thermogenic than other proteins so at least in the case of whey, even if whole food took more energy to digest, whatever advantage whole food had in that aspect would be more than made up for by the fact that whey has such a big impact on thermogenesis.
