Oh man, I've been trying to get Cynthia Alexander's first album but unfortunately I'm leaving halfway around the world. Ple please if anyone knows a site where I could download songs from her first album "Insomnia and Other Lullabyes" please reply on this thread. Dang, now there's a second album aaaarghhh!!! Even with all the misfortune I had, I was fortunate to see her perform in her days with her bro, Joey Ayala, sheesh they're good!

I saw her perform. She's a gem of a performer. Sayang lang because the cello cannot be heard well during some songs(because of MM's sound system). Nonetheless, Cynthia was excellent as expected. Mister Dean and I were speechless the whole time she was on stage.

Just got back from Cynthia's 70's Bistro gig. I have to admit -- bar none, this was simply the most amazing display of music I have seen in my lifetime. And that means a lot for someone who's seen two Sting shows, one Eric Clapton, and a number of local acts.

    Whew.

It was an unplugged set (well, the keyboard was electronic) -- and Cynthia had a second guitarist, two percussionists, one keyboardist/percussionist/backup vocalist, and four folks on strings -- for a total of nine people on stage. The sound was so rich that you could almost feel the layers building around one another, and yet the music was extremely tight and well-executed.

With 70's Bistro packed, smoky haze thick in the air, and audience brimming with enthusiasm, Cynthia performed most of her hits to perfection, as well as a number of covers ranging from the Beatles ("We Can Work it Out" and "For No One") to Joni Mitchell ("Coyote") to the Indigo Girls ("Ghost" and "Love Will Come to You").

The only two problems was that the sound engineer couldn't get the mixing perfectly (lotsa feedback), and the second guitarist broke a number of strings (probably because of his sheer strumming intensity). Still, these did little to detract from what was an utterly amazing performance.

Thanks so much, Cynthia, for a wonderful evening. You are an unbelievably talented artist.

Konpyused: I believe there are Cynthia songs available for download on soundbuzz.com and mp3manila.com. I'm just not sure if there are any from the first album, but you can always give it a try - or request the site owners to ask Cynthia's permission!

just bought the album last weekend. i think "owner of the sky" is the best song on that album. it gives you that heavenly, airy feeling when you listen to it. notable tracks are fly, motorbykle and i dont mind.

Hi there Cynthia! It must have been an awesome gig. I wanted to go but had to cancel at the last minute ... sigh ...

Oh, Mister Dean and I have a group that does Indigo Girls covers in our spare time, but after hearing your "Ghost" and "Love Will Come To You" at 70's Bistro, we are seriously thinking of retiring these songs from our roster

Oh, I just found out that Cynthia will be chatting live on www.philmusic.com tomorrow. Saturday at 12 noon. Isn't that cool? Now we can pester her about when her next album is coming out. The "Know All Things to Be Like This" song that she performed at 70s Bistro is fantastic.

    hi all,
Cynthia is off to grace the Rainforest World Music Festival at Sarawak next week. She is one of the featured acts among artists from all over the world. We will give you updates as the festival goes. They will be doing two sets and the other band members are scheduled to give workshop lectures. They had wanted her to be the last act and close the show with all the rest of the performers coming on stage, but she is too humble for that. So she will be the next to last. Cool. This is stuff that makes me proud to be a Filipino!!!

Wow!! All this time.... eto lang pala yung Cynthia Alexander thread eh! And I thought only a few knew Cynthia Alexander... She's really cool!! Now, I'm really motivated to buy her Rippingyarns Album! (Delayed reaction ba? heheheh) I was having second thoughts at first coz I haven't listened to her other songs yet. So far, I only know 2 songs there. But now, that I've heard your comments about the album, I'll buy one tomorrow

Her songs are soulful, don't you think?! She has this soothing voice and her songs were written in a poetic and contemplative way. I happen to associate her with the foreign artist, Sarah Mclachlan! For me, she's one of the quality artists/songwriters in the Philippine music industry. Btw, I listened to her live plugging at NU a couple of weeks ago. She's really GOOD!!!

You guys, don't forget to inform me if ever you'll be coming to her concert ok!? Stay cool y'all
