Kilo, if may I suggest. Since you are not yet doing some decision making, might as well start by assisting your superior through suggestions. This way, your confidence level will be developed for the succeeding steps.
Try also to grab some projects if permitted or suggest one and spearhead it.
As my former boss told me... "umabot ako sa position ko, kasi pakielamero ako sa mga business processes but I know when to stand back".
Only when you make yourself be felt and known to the organization will they let trust you on making decisions for them.
Good luck.
That's right, this thread is for all of you B.As and for all of us who are aspiring to become B.As. Hopefully, you'll find GROWTH in what u are doing ^__^
Thats's a great path. I think that's an ideal path actually. you started as a programmer and now you're already close being on the top (or you already are?) Keep sharing on this thread, it benefits almost all people who are interested in business process analysis and management

Thanks for the boost and suggestions!

hi we are currently looking for a IT Business Analyst, at least 2 years experience, preferably attended any BA training/s and with knowledge/experience in QA/Testing as well. this is a Telco company here in PH. Kindly email you resume at plyhaa@yahoo.com
anikehn, you might want to provide more information like, what the job entails, what skills are required, what systems are being used currently, where the job is located, if this would involve handling a team or a group, the work hours and days, and to some, an approximate salary range that your company has to offer.
BAs are not dime a dozen if you are looking for a really qualified individual.and being that, they'll ask these questions anyway.
good luck
I actually saw this position in Jobstreet “business analyst” and was curious about it. Di ko na realize that there is such thread here in Pex glad to see this. Mukang accommodating pa ang mga posters. Anyway my question is, I’m planning pass to an application dun sa open position as a business analyst (insurance company) I just have a couple of questions.
Presently, 1 and half year palang ako as a Programmer. Career shifter. Call center then nag programming kasi yun talaga gusto ko. But im thinking of other career path kasi mukang di ako pang hardcore development programming.
If I apply dun sa business analyst post that requires 2years of experience in BA, wala nako chance to be even scheduled for an interview or get the job? The company also desires hands on experience in 4 programming language. I have 2 of 4. What are my chances? I know my chances maybe undersized but I just want to get some info naren from the BA’s here.
Thanks =)

Well, in my very own point of view, you must not really regard the number of years of experience. First, read the Job Description or Job Function and if you really think you can do the job, then go on, pursue an application (TIP#1: Read other job descriptions of B.A's from different companies' perspectives. Also try referring to Wikipedia for some details regarding B.As. The details in there are very much general and could be helpful on your part). Then go to the next step. Second, it will all boil down to how you have represented yourself in your resume (TIP#2: have your resume revised to a B.A. Format Resume. Search the net for some killer format and remember, do not lie and exaggerate.). If you got a killer resume, then the HR might contact you regardless of the number of years of your experience. If they really are very conscious about the no. of years of experience, then they would not contact you in the first place. Third, do not under-estimate your capabilities. Read more about becoming a B.A. and do your self-assessment. If you can improve some aspects in you that are necessary to become a B.A., then try improving it. Reading can do alot. Learning thru reading can really help you do well in your interview (TIP#3: Learn some B.A. concepts and learn to use them regularly. Also, try relating your skills and qualifications to the concepts you've learned.) with this, you would not appear "really new" to the B.A. Paradigm.
Good Luck Bro![]()
jhaystrat, don't rush it. You say your not for hard core programming, but maybe you just need to get yourself used to pressure if you can't catch up or you're just having a hard time getting in-depth on a language you desire to be an expert on.
1 1/2 year is too short to assess if your skills. Usually this duration unless you are really good or have previous extensive background is just the end of most trainees.
Give it another 3 years and then move up the ladder.
A BA's job is more than likely all about critically looking at the business itself, the impact of the issue you will be handling. This also entails more pressure than a programmer.
So, hone your skills, savor the successes you'll encounter and learn from the errors. BTW, errors are not show stoppers for you but rather a climbing block so you can get a little bit closer to your goal.
Good luck
@ sir Buss_AnaIyzer and sir Yitzchak
Very very informative post.![]()
sir Yitzchak, you nailed where I am coming from. Actually what im not liking from my present work is yung mejo kulang sa learning. Nagpalit kasi kami ng SA, *** dating SA natuturuan kami once in a while and pag may mga module updates / projects pinapagawa talaga samin. But the new SA is the opposite of the latter SA. Lahat ng project, modules, user request sya sumasalo ang dating tuloy wala kami ginagawa,, so performance wise and learning wise it is not good for me. Sorry kung OT na, im just so depressed sa career path ko *****. Final interview nako sa isang IT firm din then suddenly nag FREEZE HIRE! Kala ko makaka move on nako having a better career. Anyhows, sir Yitzchak thanks for the advise. Very helpful talaga
Sir Buss_AnaIyzer, very informative and inspirational yung sinabi mo. Im always afraid of the number of years of experience and other qualifying requirements as I am a career shifter (as if may career *lol*). But you are right, it all boils down on how you sell yourself to your possible employer.
Maraming salamat po mga sirs. Sorry kung ng OT.

1> Your Name
secret na muna... baka madiscover ng supervisor ko na nag-eexplore ako ibang opportunities at hindi na niya ako iassign sa future projects hehe
2> The Name of the Company wherein you are working as a B.A.
(an IT Consulting Company)
3> Description of your Job as a B.A.
Determine current business procedures related to a specific business function or process; propose new processes that will be observed with the new system; design corresponding screens and process flow; develop test scripts and test the system to make sure requirements of users are met; coordinate with users and developers for resolution of issues. Btw, I never did any programming work.
4> The perks (Salary, Benefits, etc.) you are receiving as a B.A. from your Company
P50,000 gross monthly plus P75,000/year monetary benefits like phone and gasoline allowance. Other usual benefits like paid leaves, insurance, health card, etc.
I have been doing BA work for the past 7 years and I feel underpaid. Would you have an idea how much the industry salary range for BAs is (based on years of experience)? It would really help me in negotiating my salary in the future. Any good employers you can recommend? =)
Also, what trainings are helpful and where are these available?
5> Experiences / Comments in line with your work.
I like it. It's not a boring job because each project has its distinct challenges.
The disadvantages include having to deal with difficult clients who do not want to change their approach to doing things or who always feel they know what's best for their business function. So kahit alam mo na mas maganda yung process na naisip mo, there are times when you have to give in to their ideas because otherwise, walang patutunguhan ang project.
There are also times when the contact persons are not cooperative in the project (hindi sila available kapag kailangan mo silang imeet/interview/ask for info). May times din na papalit-palit sila ng gusto so maraming revisions ang kailangan gawin. Nakakapresure din kapag ayaw nilang pumirma sa documentation mo hehehe
Thanks!
