    Questions ko pa....

Thru the years, we've seen improvements in the way WWE athletes make their wrestling moves.

What high risk moves/risks did Hulk Hogan do that would rival those that are being made today. Anong mga moves nya yung impressive up to today's standards?

    Old days

There's one Royal Rumble edition that is still crystal clear in my mind. I remember channel 13 replaying this telecast over and over again before. It was the Royal Rumble won by Hulk Hogan after he disposed the late Mr. Perfect. Million Dollar Man drew no. 1 in that event and survived quite long. I remember future superstars such as Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart getting eliminated early in the match. Andre the Giant was also there, and he got creamed at one point by the dreaded Demolition tag team.

And regarding the All-Star Wrestling cartoons. The good guys were composed of Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, Tito Santana, Captain Lou Albano, Wendy and Junkyard Dog, while the bad team were Rody Piper, Iron Sheik, Big John Studd, Nikolai Volkov and the Fabulous Moula.

Hulk Hogan while gifted with an unearthly amount of charisma never had a huge moveset and NEVER and i do mean NEVER has he done any sort of move which would be considered high-risk. Hogan was never a high-flyer but he could tell a story in the ring.

To answer your question about high-risk maneuvers, i think that the moonsault is still impressive to watch although it's a dime-a-dozen nowadays.

Some of the my most memorable scenes in pre-Attitude Era WWF:

Million Dollar Man Ted Biasie's after-match ritual of putting a hundred dollar bill to his unconscious opponent

Superfly Jimmy Snuka doing the frog splash from the top of the steel cage

Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Andre the Giant in Wrestlemania III.

Demolition roughshodding every opponent back in their prime (I would’ve loved to see Axe and Smash taking on Legion of Doom’s Hawk and Animal)

Wrestlers with Pets - British Bulldogs and Matilde, Jake the Snake and his python Damian, Koko B. Ware and his parrot among others (Hmm, Jake vs. Koko due to Damian eating Koko’s parrot would’ve made a good storyline, hehehe)

Ravishing Rick Rude versus Jake the Snake Roberts promos, especially the part when Rick Rude ripped his tights revealing tights with the face of Jake’s wife on it. (Classic)

    Earthquake squashing Jake’s python

Brutus the Barber Beefcake shaving some wrestler bald after the sleeper hold.

Almost every kid in school trying the Gorilla Press Slam and the Razor’s Edge on each other

Ultimate Warrior getting locked inside an airtight casket courtesy of the Undertaker and Paul Bearer (Classic)

The Rockers splitting, Shawn Michaels sending Marty Jeanette through a glass window (One of the best tagteams of all time in my book, such a shame they never won the tag titles).

Yokozuna retaining the WWE Title by getting 20 wrestlers to save his *** and opening Undertaker’s urn producing green smoke

Bret Hitman Hart versus Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental Title. Best match I can remember during that time

Bret Hart versus Owen Hart (the events that transpired prior to their WM10 match plus the match itself shows us how to build a great PPV match, not the 2 raw/smackdown shows before PPV formula the WWE writers use nowadays)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who here remembers the time when WWF had shows here in Manila? I was there during the second installment in Araneta and there was sparse attendance because Bret Hart wasn't there. Even Shawn Michaels wasn't enough to draw a fullhouse crowd.

I used to watch it with my dad. I think the schedule was 11:30, Wednesday WWF All-Stars sa Channel 13.

Well you guys have covered almost everything after Wrestlemania 1. Here are the things I remember before that:

The number one manager was a guy named the Wizard (wears a turban). Guys like Jesse Ventura and Hogan were under him.

Rick Martel and Tony Garea were Tag-team champs whose main rivals were the Moondogs.

Pedro Morales as the IC Champ fighting Don Muraco and then Greg "the Hammer" Valentine

Bob Backlund was the champ and he got defeated by the Iron Sheik

Tony Atlas's bloody cage match with Greg Valentine

The first appearance of the British Bulldogs and their loss to a Japanese tag team (Mr. Sato and something)

    Cindy Lauper!

Cyndi Lauper!? Aaaaaaaaaargh! I almost phased her out of my WWF memories. Haay.

Didn't they have like wrestling midgets? I remember that Doink the clown wrestled with 3 other midgets or was it 2 in one edition of Survivor Series against this big blach rapper dude who I think is named Mabel? I don't know. Help.

in my recent memory, pumunta yung WWF twice in the early-mid 90's. ang naalala ko nung 1st time, the main event was Bret vs. Owen at the Astrodome (o Ultra?) di ko napanood yun live... and i cried . the 2nd time they came, they had 2 nights of wrestling... i watched the 2nd night live sa Araneta! the main event was The Undertaker vs. Bambam Bigelow... I saw Yokozuna crush this wrestler i forgot who... the 1st match was HBK vs. I.R.S. who grabed the mic before the match and said: "this stupid country has the highest rate of TAX CHEATS!" (how prophetic) lahat ng tao napikon! buti na sweet chin siya! btw, the event was sponsored by Colt 45 tapos si HBK palagi nasa TV commercial promoting the event.

    WWF baby!

    Fave WWF wrestler: BRET HART
    Fave WWF chick: SUNNY

damn! i had a lot of WWF action figures! Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart, Greg Valentine, Mr. Perfect, Sgt. Slaughter, the 2 Bushwackers, The Undertaker... grabe! I had a lot I couldn't remember! I even had a ring!

/\ In the first WWF tour, they had two shows, one in Cuneta Astrodome and the following day in Araneta Coliseum. My folks was able to watch the one in Cuneta. We were supposed to watch the Araneta installment but tickets were sold out.

The second WWF tour, like I said in my earlier post, didn't pack the Araneta Coliseum as much as their first installment. Even if Shawn Michaels and Lex Luger (I think he's the one who got squashed by Yokozuna) were there, the biggest draw of the WWF in the Phils. was Bret Hart. This show didn't do as well that's why the bigwigs at WWF/E is up to now hesitant on staging another show here, even in the heydays of the Attitude Era where The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin could have guaranteed sold-out shows in the Phils.

Yeah the Hulkster is often referred to as a someone who didn't know the first thing about wrestling, but this is mostly from his latter older days. Anyway, high-flying moves aren't all pro-wrestling has to offer. There is also good mat wrestling. I remember Hogan doing a standing Figure-Four Leglock! I was, like, wow what the heck is that?!

Ngayon lang ako napadpad dito... I'm a huge, as in HUGE fan of the old WWF.

I vividly remember the first major WWF event I saw on tape: Wrestlemania III. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant, where Hogan scoop-slammed the Giant, a feat unthinkable during those times (op kors, di ko pa alam na scripted ang wrestling noon so napahanga ako. ).

Super-favorite ko noon si Bret Hart, even during their early Hart Foundation days na heel pa sila at managed pa sila ni Jimmy Hart. I was all too glad that I shelled out P600 bucks (mahal pa noon yun kasi student pa lang ako nun) to watch him and Owen wrestle live at the Araneta Coliseum. I even bought a couple of original Hart Foundation/Bret Hart shirts from the WWF store (wala pang WWF.com nun). Hmm, must look for those...

Anyone here remember that Survivor Series where the Hart brothers competed as a team? If I remember correctly, dito nagtantrums ng husto at nilayasan sila ni Owen.

Gusto ko ring tag team noon yung Killer Bees kasi laging "bulaga" ang ending ng matches nila coz they suddenly wear their masks tapos biglang magsu-switch.

Nabanggit si IRS: I remember reading an article before about their Manila stint. Di ba laging may dalang briefcase si IRS, which he uses to literally clobber the opponent? Nun daw nandito sila, nalimutan ata magdala ni IRS ng briefcase, so ang ginamit nila yung laptop computer na ginagamit ni Earl (or was it Dave?) Hebner for booking matches. After the match daw, shempre the crowd was enticing IRS' opponent (HBK, I think) to open the briefcase to reveal the contents (usually a brick), pero di nya magawang buksan kasi nga laptop talaga yun, hindi briefcase .

Yawn! (I love Iron Mike Sharp, though. Ang ingay! )

I haven't really watched the WWE lately kasi di na kagaya ng dati eh. The gimmicks then were ridiculously funny but they were, well, FUN. The last gimmick that I truly loved was Degeneration X. After that, nawala na ko sa sirkulasyon.

    adam bomb
    legion of doom
    junkyard dog
    the british bulldog
    razor ramon
    barber beefcake
    rowdy piper
    shawn michaels

Hey nakalimutan nyo si Barry Horowitz yung mukhang t@nga na wrestler na tumatapik sa likod nya tapos laging talunan.

Pati si Fabulous Moolah, the only lady wrestler elevated to the WWE hall of fame.

  14. #94
all time favorite tag team ko... THE BUSH WACKERS!!!!! (tama ba yun? yung dalawang kalbong makulit na naka military pants!)

  15. #95
I don't think somebody mentioned Jimmy Hart, the biggest mouth among WWF managers and the best heel manager duing his time,he always distract the referee and let Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentin do his dirty work in the ring.Jimmy also brings along with him his mega phone and his heart printed suit. And who will forget Jim Corntte? The guy who brings his tennis rocket in the ring?

  16. #96
Hehe, the Mouth of the South Jimmy Hart. Always egging his boys with his megaphone. Comes in handy too in knocking out opponents for the win Had guys like The Hart Foundation, Earthquake among others.

For me, the best heel manager/commentator was Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Under his tutelage were some of the best heels like Ravishing Rick Rude, The Brain Busters, King Haku, even Adre the Giant.

Heenan was also great on the mic, talagang sobrang heel siya and compliment well with the late Gorilla Monsoon. However, nung nasa WCW siya parang pumanget *** style niya sa commentary.

The old days wre really more entertaining but also had a lot of trash. back then, its either you're a pure face or heel
