Sky Broadband experience

Hello everyone,

I would like to inquire if anyone is or has used Sky Broadband and their experiences with it.

I am in the process of moving residence and I have been using PLDT MyDSL for the longest time. I recently saw the tv advert for Sky Broadband advertising up 12 MBPS transfers so it peaked my curiousity as this would be an ample opportunity to change ISP providers.

Specifically I am curious as to speeds for torrents, for online gaming, and for blogging purposes.

Any thoughts or feedback would be very appreciated.

Warning: If there is no TV cable there is also no internet connection. There are times kasi na nawawala ang TV so when that happens wala ring internet. Kasi when I was using PLDT DSL if sira your phone line meron ka pa ring internet.

Yan din ang reservation ko kaya hesitant ako mag sky broadband. I'm currently using pldt and satisfied naman ako, though attractive kasi yung advertised speed ng sky broadband. naisip ko lang kasi, pag walang cable signal, wala ring internet. sa pldt ko, at least pag walang cable signal, pwede pa ko mag internet...

Actually, it seldom happens and I am a little greedy. I still have my PLDT DSL but I downgraded it to Plan 990. I know that's way too slow but that's just for backup just in case I have no internet and I need to download or upload something for work.

skybroadband is not for online gaming, yan sabi sakin nung magkakabit when i told him yung purpose ko and may capping ata yung 6mbps and 12mbps nila, correct me if i'm wrong.

hi I test the speed of my internet in many sites I got the best and accurate speed results from this site scanmyspeed
my results are
download=1.04kbps
upload=0.77kbps
I dont know the reason why my speed seems to be slow many of them said that if Cable Internet services share bandwidth with satellite Internet access.
If there are many subscribers using that same bandwidth, it can slow down the connection.
kindly guide me how to solve this problem .

^ Kung ang plan mo ay 999 add on to a Sky Cable Gold Subscription, download speed mo dapat malapit sa 1.5 mbps. Kung 999 internet only subscription mo sa Sky ay 1 mbps dapat ang speed. Paki check mo lang kasi parang hindi tama kung 1 kbps lang ang speed, na mas mabagal pa sa dial up.

Kung gumagamit ka ng wifi router, tingnan mo settings ng router mo. Dapat password protected kasi kung pati kapitbahay mo ay nakakaconnect sa wifi ninyo eh talagang babagal ang speed.

^I agree. Ang bagal lalo na sa torrents. And lately ang hirap tumawag sa customer service. I was fooled into thinking na ok ang sky pero hindi.

PLDT is worse though, takes me 1 to 3 hours minimum before someone from 171 answers.

I used to be a PLDT dsl subscriber for 5 years. My worst experience with them is 1 month of no internet. Then it got better. Then I lost internet connection every few days. Then I lost internet connection every other day. When it became everyday I decided to swith to Sky.

Yeah, Sky is not perfect. There are days when there is no signal but it is nowhere near as often as PLDT. Yes there are times when the internet is slow, but it's still faster than PLDT.

If you're the type who plays online games, who downloads/uploads to torrent etc. then you are actually better off with PLDT.

If on the other hand you download your media from iTunes ( referring to media you pay with actual money), need ready access to your e-mail including the attachments, watch videos from Youtube, browse sites which take time to render because they are heavy on flash then you are better off with Sky.

Yung mga iba nating kababayan, they actually have subscriptions to both Sky and PLDT ( Sky for browsing, email, etc. , PLDT for gaming, torrents etc.) para wala nang problema at walang patid ang internet experience nila.

Wow. So many negative reviews here. My family was at one point in time deciding to switch to SKY, but since I pay for the internet, I kept to Destiny. I find it reliable for my needs and for the price, even if it isn't the fastest.

How often does SKY go out of signal? ANd are these experiences for everyone, or does the same thing not happen with the 6mbps or 12mbps plan (which we were planning on getting)?

Sky broadband used to have very good performance even if they were using some sort of dubious proxy setup, now it is just total, utter crap. This is in Mandaluyong, Pasig and New Manila area. See http://pinoyexchange.com/forums/show...4#post61071074

I hope their company self-implodes since every department in it seems to be populated by idiots and morons, from the network admins to the billing to the department called "support", and of course to the boobs at management who hired these losers in the first place.
