pre, how can you say na makitid ang utak ko?
Bilib ako sa sinabi mo na "How can you be good if you don't communicate well" sa mga tumatangap sa sarili nila na mahina ang Engineer sa English.
That's a point of a narrow minded Mapuan. Ako yun.![]()
Sabi ng prof ko sa UP: Nung araw, Mapua lang ang tumatabla sa UP pagdating sa engineering..pero ngayon UP n lang. Bhala n yung iba sumunod wahaha

3. MAPUA...actually magaling talaga to, kung namaintain nila yung dating glory nila hanngang nagyon, no.2 ko...medyo palpak lang yung management ngayon...kailangan kasi sinasala nila mga estudyante nila...
4.hmmmm
5????
5.) UST
World Scale:
1.) MIT (dream school ko 'to!)
2.) Stanford
3.) UC Berkeley
4.) Cal Tech?
5.) ?
If it's today, then:
1. University of the Philippines Diliman
Even if I am from UPLB, The College of Engineering of UPD is the best in the country. They offer the widest range of engineering courses in the country. They've got the National Engineering Center and other engineering centers and institutes. They consistently get high marks in engineering board exams. Now, they're building the Engineering Complex with great fundings from Mr. Banatao (a non-UP entity). I predict they'll dominate the field of engineering in the country for a very long period of time. For now, I must announce: ENGINEERING = UP DILIMAN.
2. University of the Philippines Los Baños
UPLB is no stranger to engineering as many people perceive. Agricultural Engineering and Forest Engineering have been thriving in the university since the 1912 (for the former) but the latter died out recently. Now, UPLB's College of Engineering and Agro-Industrial Technology (CEAT) offers Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Agricultural Engineering. These departments are consistent 90% or better in board exams performance (except for ChE) and are constantly included in the list of topnotchers. It maintains the university's ideology in research and extension. With ever growing number of faculty members with Ph.D. holder, UPLB will be the closest rival of UPD in many years to come.
3. De La Salle University Manila
Owing to its number of engineering degrees with Center of Excellence and Center of Development designation from CHED and its membership to AUN/SEED network, I placed DLSU as my third pick. The faculty-student ratio is good given that many of their faculty members hold Ph.D. and MS. In terms of students, the university also have a good track record in terms of board exam performance and upshot alumni in the field. They'll be very good for a long time.
4. Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology
Perhaps second to UP Diliman in terms of number of degree grants*, the MSU-IIT proves to be a strong beacon in the south with its impressive performance in board examinations, with alumni garnering top positions in the field, and tradition of excellence in engineering and allied sciences. The MSU-IIT's vision and mission may be centered in the development of Mindanao but they're actually surpassing it and now encompasses the country's need of engineering people.
5. University of Santo Tomas
The oldest engineering school in the country, UST is perhaps the major contributor of engineers not just in the country but in the whole world. With its wide range of engineering courses and good graduate programs, the university cannot be treated as a low-profile engineering school today despite its average performance in licensure exams--not everything can be measured through the Regulations Commission. The reembarking and planned improvements in engineering courses of UST is really promising and will, one day, be a dominant force in the engineering field.
Other notable engineering universities are: University of San Carlos, Far Eastern University, Batangas State University, Cebu Institute of Technology, Technological University of the Philippines, and Far Eastern Air Transport, Inc. (FEATI) University.
------------------------------------
*The Batangas State University has even more course offering in engineering.
1. University of the Philippines - there's no doubt about it. It has a strong alumni presence and they always have a decent passing rate in board examinations. They also have the brightest students from the best high schools in the country.
2. De La Salle University (Manila) - they seasonally dominate and has an above average passing rate in board exams. They have Centers of Excellence in some engineering courses, too. Its ECE program is swiftly being recognized due to their excellency. It also has state-of-the-art facilities.
3. Mapua Institute of Technology - I daresay that ENGINEERING = MAPUA. It's still and will always be. Despite its declining reputation, Mapua still has an edge when it comes to engineering. Poor student selectivity is the main problem. If it were just like that of UP, (tight screening = bankruptcy for Yuchengco's business, of course) it could even surpass the above universities having an excellent roster of faculty. Mapuan parents still prefer to send their kids here (based on my personal experience). On process to be the first ABET-accredited (international accreditation) engineering institution in the Philippines.
4. Mindanao State University - has joined the battle between the reputable engineering institutions in the country. It always dominates the highest notches and has an above average passing rate in engineering board exams. They have proved that they can compete with the top caliber engineering schools in Manila.
5. University of Santo Tomas - has its share of talented and bright students. Being one of the oldest academic institutions in the country, UST has never failed to attract high school students due to its good reputation in giving a quality education. It has an average board passing rate too.
Engineering Consortium includes:
-Ateneo de Manila University
-Central Luzon State University
-De La Salle University - Manila
-Mapua Institute of Technology
-Mindanao State University - IIT
-University of San Carlos
-University of the Philippines - Diliman
-University of the Philippines - Los Banos

Pagsure wui!![]()

The funding for the National Engineering Complex came from the ERDT, not from Dr. Banatao.
NEW ENG’G COMPLEX SOON TO RISE
Soon to be erected at the back of the UP Alumni Engineers Centennial Hall is the new UP College of Engineering Complex.
It is set to accommodate new academic infrastructure, such as department laboratories for the College.
By 2010, three departments are expected to have moved to the complex. These are, namely, the Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), the Department of Mining, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (DMMME), and the Chemical Engineering Department (DChE).
As of this writing, the DCE is already working on preliminary engineering and architectural design of their two buildings—one for administrative and academic functions, and the other for laboratories. With a total floor area of 11,200 square meters, expected completion is on June 2010, in time for the Collegeʼs centennial. The projected cost of infrastructure is PhP 259.80 million,
wherein PhP 163.17 million is allotted for upgrading lab equipment.
The DMMM is also in the preliminary stages of architectural design and engineering. They will have 11 rooms in one building that house all department laboratories. With a floor area of 3,370 square meters, expected completion is before the last quarter of 2009.
DChE, meanwhile, shall commence planning of the building design later this year.
The construction of the new Engineering Complex is made possible through the support of the Engineering Research and
Development for Technology (ERDT), a 3-year multi-billion project funded by the government, which aims to assist graduate engineering programs of Philippine universities.

A scholarship grant is not the sole criterion to be considered as a top school, ain't it?
If it is, then we may consider Central Luzon State University as a top school.
Wala rin ang Silliman University, St. Louis University, other UP campuses, Ateneo de Davao, and many other reputable universities in the country.
Maybe these universities simply didn't availed themselves of this grant. We may never know.
