mahirap kasi may under the table negotiations.
malayong pasok sa maximum salary cap ang SMB. katumbas na ng 2 or 3 teams yun eh.

There's no such thing as an unrestricted free agent in the PBA. When a player's contract expires, his mother team holds his rights for one year. The only way a player can leave his mother team is if his mother team grants him a release.
With respect to maximum salary, the maximum salary of a player in the PBA is P350,000 per month (P4.2M per year).
The maximum total salaries per year per team is P30M. However, there's also a league minimum salary and that's P22M which means a team's total player salary should not fall below P22M.
Unverified by news reports but verified by some posters here and in MyPBA: If a player is not on the active roster (on the injured or reserve list), the salary of a player is not counted when computing the salary cap for teams.
Which probably explains why SMB remains under the cap. By keeping their injured stars on the injured list, the salary goes down.
These are the players who have max contacts or within the vicinity of the max contract (300k up):
Alaska:
Miller
Cariaso
BGK:
Caguioa
Helterbrand
Menk
Air 21:
NONE. The players with highest contract but still probably below 300k are Arwind Santos and Nino Canaleta. Soon to be max or within max as well would be Cyrus Baguio.
Purefoods:
J. Yap
Raymundo
SMB:
Ildefonso
Seigle
Hontiveros
Racela
Tugade
Soon to be max or 300k up: Pena, Jwash
Rain or Shine:
NONE. Soon to be: Norwood, JR Reyes, Mercado
SLR:
Espino
Aquino
Soon to be: K-Will and Ryan Reyes
TNT:
Alapag
Cardona
Peek
Ranidel De Ocampo
Coke:
Taulava
Belasco
Arigo
Soon to be: Cabagnot, Ronjay Buenafe
Red Bull:
NONE. And nobody will.![]()
Current Maximum Player Salary: P350,000/Month or P4.2M per year.
Maximum Bonus: 40% of Team Salaries (P4,000 Elims, P6,000 Semis, P8,000 Finals)
jwash is at the maximum. he is a number 1 pick so he would receive max pay on its 3rd year much like arwind, kelly, jared and gabe...pati ata si jason castro at solomon mercado maximum contracts ang nakuha
J-Wash as a third year player can only receive P337.5k as stipulated in the rookie contract drafted by the PBA Board. It states that the maximum salary of a rookie is at P100k a month on his rookie year, a maximum 50% increase on his sophomore year or P150k a month, and another maximum 50% increase on his third year in his contract, or P337.5k.
However, since he is already on his 4th year with the league (having been the top rookie pick of the 2005 draft), he may have been contracted by his former team TNT or his new team SMB to the maximum contract.
James yap is the highest paid player today; under the table of course. he earns 600k a month. partly due to his commercial appeal mainly because of kris aquino obviously.
Cardona earns 500k.
Kelly williams surprisingly earns just the max of 350k despite being d best player in the pba.
I'm sure some others earn more than 350k but i can only confirm yap and cardona.

^^^ my bad, its 48M 8-years 500k contract for duremdes...si adducul pala *** 700k contract sa MBA
Kenneth Duremdes' contract expired last December 31, 2008. The last time he signed a contract was with Alaska in 2001 where he was paid P500k for 8 years. Upon expiry of his contract, Duremdes was taken in by Coke management and will be paid around P300k a month (if I'm not mistaken) to coach the team.
He is the last player in the PBA roster to earn P500k after the salary cap was reduced to P350k sometime around 5 years ago. But because his contract was done on a long-term basis, his previous teams (SLR and Coke) had no recourse but to pay him that much even if he spent most of his time at the bench.
And yes, there was a time when SLR had three players whose salaries were P500k each (Aquino, Espino, Duremdes). As such, the team had no recourse but to get a bunch of marginal / role players to form the team. Paolo Mendoza was perhaps the next highest-paid salary in the team with around P225k a month sometime from 2003 onwards.
