Also who here thinks Bane was just as good of a Villain as the Joker. Seeing this twice already I sure think so. I'm not comparing the two but there criticism that Bane is not as good as The Joker.
I just feel that Ledger's Joker was written better, and of course, Ledger aced that role.

As for the box office, you raised a good point re: movies staying a long time. No doubts about the longevity of TDKR's box office returns though IMO, siguro affected ng konti yung sa opening lalo pa't di matigil ang comparisons with The Avengers.

The Dark Knight Rises to do $80-85M on Friday alone

*Based on matinee projections, The Dark Knight Rises. is looking to open with a gargantuan $80M-85M today (which includes $30.6M from midnights). Thats about even with Marvels The Avengers opening Friday of $80.5M. Hollywood is making weekend projections of $180M-$200M but Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures remain mute.

*Warner Bros sources tell me now theyre seeing no decrease in movie ticket grosses for The Dark Knight Rises. What happened in Colorado is a tragedy, make no mistake about it. But East Coast numbers are coming in like nothing ever happened. We grossed half a million dollars by 10 AM just in Manhattan. One reason for that is because most of todays grosses, and a good portion of this weekends, consisted of $30M in pre-sales. So whether moviegoers show up or not to the theaters doesnt matter: they still paid for their tickets. The real-time effect of the Aurora movie theater shooting likely wont be felt at the box office until Saturday at the earliest and more likely Sunday and next week and next weekend as pre-release sales decrease. One incident, as horrific as it is, does not necessarily cause people to want to change their patterns, a Warner Bros exec explained to me. Young people still want to go to movie theaters and they still want to see this movie.
Meanwhile, the official North American midnights number for The Dark Knight Rises is public now: it opened with $30.640M *from 3,825 locations (for $8,010 per location). Included in the overall total are IMAX grosses of $2.232M from 330 locations (for $7,041 per location). This 2D midnights number shatters the $18.4M midnights generated by 3D Marvels The Avengers earlier this summer. Still, with international grosses from 9 countries totalling $10.4M, thats already $71M worldwide for the mega-pic before its even in wide release today. Remember that the largest grossing 2D North American opening weekend ever remains 2008′s The Dark Knight at $158M and theres no doubt The Dark Knight Rises will beat that. (Not adjusted for inflation or higher ticket prices). But can it beat Avengers all-time $207.4M collected from 2D, Digital 3D, RealD, and IMAX 3D theaters?
At its widest release, The Dark Knight Rises will debut in 4,404 domestic theaters from Friday through Sunday, including 332 IMAX locations. Hollywood now believes chances are slim that The Dark Knight Rises now can beat The Avengers weekend record because of the fear, panic, and security concerns resulting from todays movie theater shooting.

weekend @ $180m isn't bad as TDKR is in 2d only tapos ito pang Colorado shooting na nangyari.. understandable naman kasi na mas marami nanuod ng The Avengers yun kasi kahit wala kang utak, retarded man o kindergarten palang pwde na maeenjoy na ang palabas..sa TDKR kelangan mo paganahin utak mo para maenjoy mo ang palabas..

Hollywood scrutiny sharpens after 'Dark Knight' shooting
    July 21, 2012 1:17pm

LOS ANGELES - Hollywood and its storied Warner Bros. studio on Friday faced sharp scrutiny and the prospect of seeing blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises" sink at box offices following a killing spree in Colorado that could test fan appetite for violent films.

Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, saw its big-budget film take in a near record $30.6 million in midnight screenings on Friday, but ticket sales were overshadowed by the shooting. As news spread through the day, the film's director, Christopher Nolan, expressed his "profound sorrow" at the rampage that took the lives of 12 people and injured 58 more.

While the studio did not cancel any of the movie's planned screenings, it did stop many promotions and some TV networks stopped running advertisements for the movie.

Theater owners and police from New York to Los Angeles beefed up security to assure people that the movies - a place to escape troubles and be entertained - were still safe.

The head of Cinemark Holdings, owner of the Century 16 movie theater where the shooting occurred in Aurora, Colorado, went on TV to stress the safety of moviegoing. Cinemark CEO Tim Warner called the shooting "a one-off tragedy."

"We play to 250 to 255 million people a year with very little incidents. As so, the movie theaters are a very safe and secure environment," Warner said on CNBC.

"The Dark Knight Rises," based on the exploits of crime-fighting superhero Batman, is one of this year's major movie releases. Some box-office watchers had believed its U.S. and Canadian ticket sales could reach as high as $198 million over this debut weekend, just shy of the $207 million opening set by "The Avengers" earlier this year. The movie cost Warner Bros. $250 million to produce and tens of millions more to market.

But at a midnight premiere in Aurora, a suburb of Denver, a gunman wearing a gas mask and a bulletproof vest hurled a gas canister inside the theater and opened fire on moviegoers.

"The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me," Nolan said in his statement. "Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

    INDUSTRY IMPACT

Hollywood box-office watchers said it was too soon to know exactly how ticket sales would be affected by the event because the industry had never faced a situation like this one.

"It's too early to tell. This is a tragic and unprecedented event," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office watcher for Hollywood.com Box Office.

Others said the killings might do little to dampen turnout for "Dark Knight Rises," the finale to a popular Batman saga.

"As horrible as this was, it is likely to affect 'The Dark' at the edges and won't take away that many viewers," said Tony Wible, an analyst with Janney Montgomery Scott, who follows entertainment companies and theater chains. "There are only a few people who won't come out to see a movie because of this."

Some industry experts, including former Columbia Pictures marketing head Peter Sealey, said the studio should scale back its promotion of the film, and with strong advance word-of-mouth publicity, it might not even need to advertise in order to bring in big numbers at the box office.

"Warner Brothers should show sensitivity and pull the ads for a week, certainly in Denver, and maybe around the country," said former Columbia Pictures marketing head Peter Sealey.

Phil Contrino, editor of Boxoffice.com, said the impact could go beyond just "The Dark Knight Rises" to all films in theaters if people stay away, and it could extend well into the future if the event lingers in people's minds.

Indeed, Hollywood and the movie industry have faced real-life horrors before and shown sensitivity. On Friday, Warner Bros. pulled a promotion for a mob film "Gangster Squad" from theaters, canceled a "Dark Knight" premiere in Paris, called off appearances by the cast in Mexico and Japan, and said it would not post any more box-office figures until the weekend passed.

"Warner Bros. and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time," the company said in a statement.

Earlier this year, Warner pulled video ads for 9/11 film "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" around Ground Zero in New York after residents there complained it was insensitive.

In the wake of those attacks back in 2001, promotional posters for Sony Pictures Entertainment's "Spider-Man" were changed to remove images of the World Trade Center towers.

Back in 1991 at the premieres of gangland crime drama "Boyz n The Hood," one man was killed and many injured when random violence erupted in several movie theaters across the United States, forcing some venues to cancel screenings.

While much of Hollywood remained quiet in public, some stars, including former California governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest and film director Kevin Smith took to Twitter to express shock, sorrow and in some cases, anger.

"A mad man has shattered lives forever in Colorado. To everyone who helped folks get to safety in that theatre THANK YOU for your bravery ... Hearts and Prayers to all affected by the craziness in Colorado," Whoopi Goldberg tweeted.

    VIOLENCE IN MEDIA

In the days and weeks to follow, the shooting will likely renew calls for ways to reduce violence in movies and people will point to Hollywood as being, in some ways, responsible for Friday's deadly shooting spree.

Carole Lieberman, a Beverly Hills media psychiatrist who specializes in the impact of media on people, thought it was likely no coincidence that the suspected gunman, 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes, picked the "Batman" movie with its violent tale of good versus evil to carry out the deadly shooting.

"It's tragic, but we're going to find out that he has been exposed to significant amounts of media violence in his past," she speculated.

The National Association of Theatre Owners, a trade industry group representing movie theater owners, said its member companies were "working closely with local law enforcement agencies and reviewing security procedures."

AMC Theaters, one of the largest chains in the United States, said it would not allow guests to wear face-covering masks or take fake weapons inside its buildings.

Carmike Cinemas, the nation's fourth-largest theater chain, said it was using uniformed "law enforcement officers and plainclothes agents" at its 237 theaters.

Shares of movie theater chains dropped on Friday after the killings. Cinemark Holdings, declined 4.6 percent to close at $23.15 on the New York Stock Exchange. Regal Entertainment Group shares fell 4.4 percent to close at $13.54 on Nasdaq. Shares of Carmike slipped 2.3 percent to $14.48, also on Nasdaq.

Shares of Time Warner Inc, the media conglomerate that owns the Warner Bros. studio, which produced "Dark Knight Rises," dropped 28 cents, or 0.7 percent, to $38.86 on the NYSE. - Reuters

Batman director Christopher Nolan laments 'savage' massacre
    July 21, 2012 2:48pm

LOS ANGELES - Batman movie director Christopher Nolan lamented Friday the "senseless tragedy' and "unbearably savage" gunning down of 12 movie goers at a Colorado theater screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker, who canceled the French premiere of the final part in the Batman trilogy and a media junket in Paris after the shootings, said the "innocent" place he calls his "home," the cinema, had been violated.

"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew... I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," Nolan said, referring to the town where the killings occurred.

"I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie," he added.

A further 59 people were wounded in the attack.

British-American Nolan is director of the trio of Batman movies that started with "Batman Begins" in 2005 followed by "The Dark Knight" in 2008. "The Dark Knight Rises" is the final installment.

He also wrote and directed 2010 thriller "Inception," which won four Oscars and was nominated for four others. Nolan was also nominated for best screenplay Oscar in 2002, for "Memento."

"I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime," Nolan said.

"The movie theater is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.

"Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

British actor Gary Oldman, who plays Gotham City police commissioner James Gordon in the movie, expressed shock at the "horrific" shooting, while studio Warner Brothers said it was "deeply saddened."

Stars including Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Morgan Freeman had been due to attend the premiere on the Champs-Elysees in Paris ahead of the film's general opening in France on Wednesday.

But management at the Gaumont Champs-Elysees cinema, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the premiere had been scrapped. - AFP

How much to be Batman? Between P33M and P117M
    July 21, 2012 2:43pm

Holy expenses, Batman! How much would it cost to wear the Caped Crusader's cool cowl and strike terror in criminals' hearts?

An economics blog Centives estimates it would take the equivalent of up to $2.8 million or in Philippine terms, P33.666 to P116.9 million.

"The total bill? $2.8 million to show the criminal scum that the city doesnt belong to them. However, if you decide that youre willing to take the risk and order just one graphite helmet rather than 10,000, you can strike terror in the hearts of criminals for just $806,386.19," Centives said.

It said a breakdown of the expenses will include:

    - The services of an elite personal martial arts instructor, which will cost $60 an hour. If Batman trains for four hours a day, six days a week, the bill adds up to $74,880.
    - A private jet to sneak back to Gotham City to avoid detection: from Bluestar Jets' $1,550 an hour to a nonstop flight from Beijing to New York for $20,150.
    - A Kevlar Utility Harness: $337.39
    - Gas-powered magnetic grappling gun with a simple grappling hook: $26.95
    - Nomex survival suit for advanced infantry, Kevlar bi-weave, reinforced joints, tear resistant and bullet proof: $300,000.
    - Memory cloth, or a hand glider: $3,390.
    - The Tumbler - or at least a Humvee: $140,000.

Centives said Batman may also have to order 10,000 graphite helmets at $244 each - or $200 if bought wholesale - totaling $2 million.

A sound amplifier into the Bat-ears may cost $29.95.

On the other hand, a butler who can "dress your wounds, cook you meals, clean the bat droppings, and engage in witty banter for $30 an hour 24 hours a day, 365 days a year" will cost $262,800.

Batarangs - or 10 hunting boomerangs should cost $281.30, while five riot grenades will cost $875.

Some black spray paint to bring it all together 20 cans - may cost $121.60. LBG, GMA News

I think there's more creative freedom in writing the Joker because of the nature of his character. Bane's character does not have that luxury.

It really sucks this shooting had to happen. I mean I'm not going to be sad if it does not beat The Avengers opening weekend (even though I want it too) because this movie will be making a lot of money regardless but it sucks some sick moron had to ruin the experience for everyone.

Nolan invested almost a decade in creating this wonderfully crafted Batman Universe only for someone to spoil the final chapter like that. Also it's going to somewhat taint some people's experience of the movie now when they see it, they are going to be reminded of this tragic event.

Yeah know I am not an American but if I was i'd probably leaning towards the left. But this one of the instances where I would agree with the right when it comes to executions. This Holmes person was caught red handed and killed in cold blood, this guy should be executed for the punishment of the lives he took.

It was good, but not better than the first two. Maybe a little better that the first...

I'm too lazy to write a full blown review so I'm just going to summarize in bullets what I thought about it and why I rated it 6-7/10:

    The Good

    • While in short supply the action scenes are pretty neat, especially anything involving The Bat
    • Very long but you won't feel it which is a huge plus given how dialogue-driven it is
    • An accurate portrayal of Bane for once and actually pretty scary (caveat: I didn't say better) than The Joker but not as endearing as M Bison
    • Anne Hathaway pulls off a somewhat faithful rendition of Catwoman as evident in the necklace theft early on [spoiler start]although she's not suppose to KILL[spoiler end]
    • Joseph Gordon-Levitt save for his unbelievable and kooky excuse for discerning why [spoiler start]Wayne is Batman[spoiler end] was great. Even had a Chicago accent too.
    • Cameos by a who's-who of actors from 24's "Secretary of Offense" playing the president, the nerdy guy from 17 Again as Wayne's doctor, Joey Quinn as a cop again
    • Soundtrack is exceptionally done and appropriate for every scene
    • [spoiler start]Liam Neeson appears as Ras Al Ghul[spoiler end] to whine about something that was TAKEN from him

    The Bad

    • Batman does [spoiler start]TWO separate comebacks in one film[spoiler end] with equally long lead-ups to each one as well
    • Recycled elements from previous films [spoiler start](i.e. groups of people held hostage with bombs that they have control over, cops being trapped)[spoiler end]
    • Tom Hardy's voice (even with assistance from audio separation and an insane case of auto-tune) is still hard to understand when he's not chewing the scenery
    • Subplot with John Blake [spoiler start]and the orphaned boys was totally unnecessary[spoiler end]
    • Editing looked weird

    The Ugly

    • [spoiler start]John Blake basically having a larger role than anyone else[spoiler end] that you can call this film "The Dark Knight: Sons of Liberty"
    • Christian Bale's Batman voice is at its worst here but also at its funniest as we get to hear him sound like Daffy Duck [spoiler start]while being choked[spoiler end]
    • Bane after being built as a genius bruiser is later revealed to be [spoiler start]a henchman to the true big bad[spoiler end]
    • Said big bad [spoiler start]is probably one of the most unconvincing villains in comic book lore[spoiler end]
    • Scarecrow [spoiler start]demoted to a kooky judge of a kangaroo court[spoiler end]
    • Cops [spoiler start]and even SPECIAL FORCES soldiers are conveniently idiots yet again mostly for the purposes of putting over the villain but often times to ridiculous levels[spoiler end]
    • Ditto for the [spoiler start]idiot citizens you wondered the stock exchange heist would be rendered null and invalid for a myriad of reasons but somehow everyone falls for it[spoiler end]

    True. Mala-Inception.
This is the reason why kids will get bored.

Napangiti ako nung isa-isang lumalabas yung mga actors ng Inception. Parang reunion movie lang nila.
