    Guys what happened to the team Philippines with the presence of Japeth?????

  2. #62
    ^^^If you haven't seen the RP Team's games in the Jones Cup, Japeth has been making a mark with the team. He played splendidly against Japan, scoring on dunks and interior shots and blocking shots at the defensive end. He needs to control his fouls though as he got into foul trouble which meant he missed major minutes that could've helped the team's cause.

    maganda showing ni japeth sa jones cup. i was a skeptic before pero nung nakita ko sa ongoing jones cup, malaki potential ng bata na yan.

    go watch the jones cup, may game ngayon 7pm vs lebanon, espn or live streaming i-google mo na lang.

    Siya lang ang bright spot sa Jones Cup, Mas mabilis at magaling pa sya mag dribble kesa kila Ranidel, James Yap at Willie Miller na puro bano sa dribbling ant ubod ng bagal tumakbo

  5. #65
    I seriously hope he considers playing for Smart-Gilas. I think yung frontline ang weakness nung team na yon, and Japeth will surely be a big help along with CJ Giles pag na-naturalize siya.

    Siya na ang best player ng RP National Team.

    Ganda ng dunk niya kagabi againts the Lebanase National Team laki ng improvement niya after niya na maglaro sa Division I School.

    sana wag syang mag PBA. maghanap sya ng ibang opportunities outside of the Philippines -- better kung US or Europe. basta always available sya sa National Team.

    in my opinion, mabuburo lang sya sa PBA, titigil na pag improve nya hanggang mag retire sya.

    mas maganda sya maglaro sa labas ng Pilipinas. mahusay na bata. we need at least 10 more japeth aguilars.

    I hope that playing in the Jones Cup is an eye opener for Japeth that the PBA style of basketball is backwards and will limit his growth as a player. I hope that this will make him consider joining Smart Gilas and be trained by Toroman who will greatly help him improve his game.

    Japeth makes formal bid for PBA draft

    Japeth makes formal bid for PBA draft
    By Nelson Beltran Updated July 24, 2009 12:00 AM

    TAIPEI – Japeth Aguilar, the towering former Ateneo player who is expected to be the next dominant big man in Philippine basketball, has decided to join the coming PBA draft.

    Aguilar, 22, formalized his draft application yesterday after playing five games with Powerade Team Pilipinas – a selection of PBA stars – in the ongoing Jones Cup competition here.

    He left his application papers in a sealed envelope in Manila before joining the Nationals in their trip here. He told PBA officials here it’s now an official application after deciding with finality that he’s making himself available for the draft set Aug. 2 in Market! Market! in Taguig.

    “It’s a family decision. It’s for my future. We’ve thought it’s better for me to join the PBA now,” said Japeth, son of former national and pro player Peter.

    “My parents have thought I would be better off here than in the (United) States. We felt I would earn more in the PBA with my salary there and possible endorsements,” said Aguilar.

    PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios welcomed Aguilar’s decision.

    “The PBA family welcomes Japeth Aguilar to the premier basketball league of the country. I am confident he will be an asset not only to his team but also to the PBA while he showcases his basketball talent and skills,” said Barrios.

    “I wish him all the best as I join all PBA fans eagerly waiting for his debut in the games this coming October,” Barrios added.

    Aguilar is expected to become the league’s first homegrown player drafted No. 1 overall in the PBA since Yancy de Ocampo in 2002. And he could well be the league’s next Ramon Fernandez or Alvin Patrimonio.

    “For sure, he will become a PBA superstar,” said RP team coach Yeng Guiao of Aguilar who averages 8.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 shot blocks here.

    Guiao said he’s been assured by Burger King governor and team manager Lito Alvarez that they will keep their rights on the No. 1 pick and they will use it on Aguilar.

    Aguilar, however, admitted that another team is interested in enlisting him, giving an option of having a mother club in the PBA and playing for RP Smart Gilas during PBA off-season

    because there is no future in Smart Gilas.

    without the PBA, only the dreamers like jay p. mercado will think that we have a shot at recapturing those major titles using NCC model.

    That is what other countries have been doing..Their national team players doesn't play in their own country's league..They play outside of the country and when a national team is being called upon, they reunite and come together as one..

    My belief that winning is not the issue anymore, its the stagnation of talent in our country, I believe Japeth is still young he can linger 1-2yrs playing international ball and polish his skills and fundamentals and then get in the PBA, so he can bring knowledge and fundamentals that we lack, back in our country. That's why I feel PBA should only do 2 conference and using the summer time in the west to send PBA players to participate in summer leagues or camps, to enhance their skills heck not only the PBA but the rest of the leagues too. We just got to stop the stagnation and we can dream again for past glories

    i'm sure the national coach had a lot to do in helping convince japeth to enter the PBE. and now, aguilar is a member of burger king.

    Impossible Dream

    Filed Under: Basketball

    I'M SURE MOST PEOPLE IN THE BASKETBALL community are still dreaming of the day when the country makes it back to the Olympics or the world basketball map.

    Basketball is still our No. 1 sport today and will continue to be mainly because of the financial support from the big corporations, the success of the school leagues and the way it is covered by the media.

    But we must put some sense into our madness.

    Otherwise our dream may turn into nightmare.

    * * *

    After watching the Philippines in the recent Jones Cup, it would be best for the PBA to abandon its dreams of ever leading a team that would take the country back to the world or Olympic map.

    It simply cannot be done-not by a team assembled in haste, trained haphazardly, and worse, with players who have just come from a hectic professional schedule and are coming to international competition with all sorts of injuries.

    The way countries from the Middle East manhandled the Philippines gives us an idea that we can no longer compete against the best countries in the globe. We don't have the size, we no longer have the speed to overcome size, and most of all, we don't have the ball movement imperative to win internationally.

    Our players have the skill, of course, the skill to dazzle fans inside the Araneta Coliseum or the Cuneta Astrodome or the Ynares Center and in the provinces. In short, our players are made to play against each other and against no one else.

    The PBA should stick to making its product (the games) the best that it can be.

    Forget going international. We simply don't have the tools to play there anymore.

    * * *

    However, the Smart Gilas program seems to be on the right track.

    They have a permanent coach for three years who has a proven track record, Serbian Rajko Toroman. He has taken Iran to the Beijing Olympics. His players came from the amateur ranks whose desire to play for the country is still high on their priority list.

    They are reportedly receiving salaries commensurate to that of the PBA.

    * * *

    Though I think he is still a little raw, we all saw how good Japeth Aguilar is and what potential he has.

    It is a pity that he decided to turn pro immediately.

    He would have been a big help to the Smart Gilas team because of his brand of play and training in the US collegiate level. He has what is needed in international competitions.

    * * *

    Perhaps some of the money being spent on basketball can be shared with other sports where we stand a better chance of achieving our "Impossible Dream."

    Its hard to have the private sector jump start something w/o the governments proper assistance, that is why I think we are not getting any support outside of Basketball. B-ball is a proven money game, so unless we see a miracle. I don't think were getting anywhere with any other sport in terms of support and exposure.

    I mean our softball team is actually better than our B-ball team when it comes to international games. We also had a baseball league once! To where it all went I do not know...

    well, if the PBE doesn't completely and patiently support the RP team, then it's gonna end up like this year's team--unlike the 2007 jones cup squad.

    smart-gilas is just another PBE team. no way it is the best national team that can be assembled... by a mile.

    is there nobody in the mainstream media (sportswriters) criticizing the PBE for doing a 180 on it's RP support after 2007 and going back to the 3 conference format? don't tell me they're all in the backpockets of the PBE or are afraid to ruffle some feathers for fear of access being denied them?

    I ask because there's a lot homogeneity in their PBE reporting. once the sportswriters collectively decided to parrot the latest PBE line that qualifying for the Olympics (or even the effing FIBA World is "hopeless cause"), it becomes Conventional Wisdom.

    Dapat kasi di na ni lend si Japeth sa NT kasi nabulag siya sa current talent niya over the PBA players kahit very unpolished, dito nga sa Sri Lankan game, pinilit niya yun shot at na block, suwerte lang tinawagan ng foul pero that is not a good move.

    comments like this reflects someone's total ignorance on the game.....

    unfotunately, Japeth Aguilar shared the same line of thinking with this BS....completely abandoning the greater calling to pursue personal gains.....
