MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Golden Girls clinched the Softball Big League World Series title by defeating the West of Los Angeles at the Vanderbilt Ballpark in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

A PNA report by Eddie Alinea said the Golden Girls needed only 5 innings to fashion out a 14-2 win against Los Angeles.

The title finish capped a 7-game winning run for the Golden Girls.

Laguna native Rizza Bernardino limited the Americans to 5 hits while her team mates batted 14 hits.

This allowed the Golden Girls to score more runs, especially during the 5th inning.

The Filipino players had three runs in the 1st inning, four in the 2nd, one each in the 3rd and 4th inning before going all out with five runs in the 5th.

The rally prompted organizers to award the win to the Golden Girls.

Queeny Sabobo had three runs batted in (RBI). The rest of the girls connected with their bats at least once.

The Golden Girls are mentored by softball coach Ana Santiago.

The winning team is composed of Bernardino, Sabobo, Mary Jane Fabellar, Andrea Mae Gonzales, Baby Jane Raro, Krisna Paguican, Michelle Lentija and Glesyl Opjer of UAAP titlist Adamson Lady Falcons, Gene Joy Parilla, Kristina Lacupa, Maria Luna Amparo and Charmaine Joy Oria of the UST Tigresses.

it's a pity that nuyles wasn't able to finish his tour of duty for the soaring falcons.

i was hopeful that the adu-mbt could still salvage a final four slot this season with nuyles around.

Coach Leo has finally acknowledged that ADMU has approached him about the open head coach position in Katipunan. He said that as early as 2 years ago a member of the search committee inquired if he had any interest coaching the blue eagles. Teka, the search committee was put together in Jan or Feb or this year to look for a new coach for ADMU when Norman Black announced that season 76 would be his last year in Katipunan before he starts coaching TNT. Norman Black going to TNT was an open secret in Moro for sometime. Is Ricky Palou the prime suspect on who approached Austria about the job opening? Heh heh heh, coach Leo knows his way around the Moro gym since his boys played for AHS. By the way, Bacon Austria is now part of the ADMU coaching staff as part assistant coach of ADMU team B under former teammate Yuri Escueta.
