    UST Scholarship

Meron *** po sana akong itatanong tungkol sa school ninyo if pwede? Ah, tanong ko lang po kung may ino- offer bang scholarship ang UST for new students and how to avail. Tumawag kasi *** sa office nila pero sabi nila kailangan mag enrol ka muna before ka maka-apply sa scholarship nila. Tanong ko *** din details about dun. Gusto ko sana iyong scholarship through tests/academics if meron man. Currently 4th year pa po ako and nasa Davao ako ngayon. Gsto ko sanang mag-aral dyan pag nakagraduate na ako since well known ang school niyo when it comes to medical related courses. Gusto ko rin sanang kunin na course is Faculty of Pharmacy(Medical Technology) Hoping for your generous response. Thank you and good day.

If you graduated vale or salu in high school, you are automatically qualified for academic scholarship (Santo Tomas Academic Scholarship). But you need to apply and take an exam first.

I think there are other scholarships available for working students, varsity players, etc.

You can check sa UST website.

Becarios de Santo Tomas is not a scholarship program. It's an organization for all Thomasian scholars (academic, athlete, working, etc).

If my memory serves me right, I applied for Santo Tomas Scholarship (academic) first and enrolled right after (medyo matrabaho yun). i think i did it one whole day. You have to secure all requirements. But after going through the process, I was immediately granted 100% Tuition Fee defrayal.

If I were you, pupunta ako mismo sa UST to inquire. Or call OSA.

The exam for academic scholarship, i think, is not a qualifying one. For formality sake lang ata. Kasi naman for vale and salu lang siya - expected na dapat magaling ka. I'm not quite sure though. The challenge is, you have to maintain a GWA of not lower than 1.75 per semester to continuously enjoy the scholarship.

    Hello michael_john16!

UST has four types of scholarships. They are discussed below.

    (a) Academic performance scholarship (Sto. Tomas Scholarship), 100% of tuition fee fully covered, but miscellaneous fees & other charges are excluded - if you are a certified high school valedictorian or salutatorian, then you are qualified to apply. The criteria's basis includes, e.g., high average grade, population of your total graduating class, endorsement letter from your parish priest and those who will vouch for your character. You must pass a set of interviews. However, you must enroll first before you apply for this scholarship, as in all the scholarships described below. Old UST students may apply but they must have maintained an averge grade of not less 1.75 (if I'm not mistaken) in any semester.

    (b) Financially challenged students (St. Martin de Porres Scholarship), 50% of tuition fee is covered, miscellaneous fees & other charges are excluded - The criteria's basis includes, e.g., a minimum average grade from high school of 85%, you come from a low-family income group (P120,000 per anum or less, this may change over the years), endorsement letter from your parish, good moral character. You must pass a set of interviews. Old UST students may apply, under the same criteria, but they must have maintained an averge grade of not less 2.50 in any semester prior to application.

    (c) Students who wish to render service in UST (San Lorenzon Ruiz Scholarship), tuition and all fees are covered and includes a stipend. The criteria and requirements are similar to St. Martin de Porres scholarship, but you must pass the evaluation/interview process because it must be determined that you have the capability to maintain the scholarship given that you have to render four(4) hours a day of service on five(5) school days a week. (Nursing students are not allowed this tyoe of scholarship.) You must be responsible, know how to manage your time well, smart or academically capable enough to maintain the required average grade of 2.50 ave. grade per semester.

    (d) Students who excell in the performing arts or a sports discipline (included under this scholarship program) AND who have been strongly recommended by their dean/mentor/coach shall qualify for this scholarship. The coverage and benefits of the scholarship will depend on the said recomendation.

ALL available scholarship slots are limited in number, so the earlier one applies, the better chances one has of getting a slot.

Hope the above information helped you a lot.

Wow, iskolar pala si silent yet...

michael_john16, it would really be best if you can call the Student Affairs office. The number is (02) 7312985.

Since you're in Mindanao, why don't you try Xavier or AdDU?

Ayan, perfect ang sagot ni Carl Malone. That's what I was looking for.

Thanks for the comment. If one is an old student (or if he/she has passed the 1st sem of his/her first year of college) one has to have a weighted average grade of 2.25 to qualify as an applicant (among other requirements) for the San Martin de Porres scholarship program. To maintain it, he/she should have a weighted average grade of 2.50 at every semester's end (with no failing grade). UST, however, may change this; my understanding is that the maintaining average used to be 2.25 but was lowered to 2.50. UST must have realized that with the economically challenging times, it felt it had the Christian duty to help as many financially challenged students as possible.

It is worthwhile to note that the UST scholars comprise only 8% of its whole student population.

    My best wishes to michael_john16!
