MANILA, Philippines - The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) may use the University of Santo Tomas Gym for some of its games, including basketball, for Season 74. The gym, which is part of the P800-million UST Sports Complex, is expected to be finished by January 28 in time for the school's 400th anniversary. An Ateneo sports official said they plan to use it as possible venue for basketball and volleyball. "If it's already complete, why not?" said Ricky Palou, the Ateneo athletic director and representative to the UAAP board. Ateneo is host of the coming UAAP season. The sports complex is four stories high and boasts of a modern basketball court with bleachers that can accommodate 5,792 patrons. The size of the gym is much bigger than The Arena in San Juan, the venue for the on-going Season 73 volleyball tournament, which can house around 4,500 fans. The UST gym, though, is smaller than the Blue Eagles Gym in Katipunan, which can sit 7,500. The construction of the sports complex started in 2008 and it will house the facilities for fencing, badminton, table tennis, indoor track, judo, dancing, gymnastics, and a fitness center at the ground floor. Aside from the sports facilities, the building will also be home to classrooms, administrative offices, and space for food concessionaires. A multi-deck parking space will also be erected near the gymnasium. The new gym will also include a museum display of the various trophies UST has won. The new building will replace the old UST gym, which was built in 1927.

    clawed: Yeah! me too.

Sabi sa article, completion ay sa January 28? ang bilis naman. hehe kung gayon, kailangan macheck uli sa weekend.

Ayos, mukhang almost all systems go na for season 74.

Anyway, by this time siguro tapos na yung exterior or yung shell. Yung madugong part yung interior at lahat ng details. hehe

I hope yung seats parang yung sa The Spectrum or Rupp Arena. May nakikita ako na college stadiums sa US, ang seats parang yung sa Med Audi.

Me either. Walang unifying theme tuloy ang buildings inside the Pinagpalang Pamantasan.

For me, this is the best design among the three. AFAIK, there has been 3 designs already. One of the designers of the previous two was Architect Yolanda Reyes, former dean of Architecture. Mas off ata yung design nya - blue cylindrical tower and very modern.

If you'll look at the lower right corner, the design belongs to John Joseph Fernandez, the current dean of Architecture.

this is actually deliberate... the buildings in UST are always designed depended on the architectural movement of the time whan it was built... Art Deco for Main Building, and the old Printing Press building, also you can see the Art Deco influences in the entrance of the UST Gym...

So when you go around the UST campus, the buildings themselves tell their own story...

a sad fate for the planner of ADMU and DLSU since they opted to go for one singular design like Neo-Classical... at least ADMU went Avante Garde with the Church of the Gesu...

also like in UP where buildings' designs are different... the common denominator between the two schools? excellent Architecture Program... producing all the national artist in the said field between the two of them. siyempre mas marami pa rin sa Pinagpalang Pamantasan...

Re: gym, madami parin puno sa paligid kaya yung 3rd and 4th fl0or ang kita from españa.
