May mga private initiatives for positive change like Gawad Kalinga (there are other, small scale initiatives)
There was this article in Panorama of Manila Bulletin last Sunday titled The Man Who Planted Trees. He inherited 100 hectares of cogon draped undulating land in 1987. He tried to sell it to the gov't but it was rejected. He thus planted thousands of mango and other trees and it's now a greenland.
It's a pity there's no online Panorama. This is the only write-up I found online http://zacsarian.blogspot.com/2011/1...-to-oasis.html
May mga gov't initiatives tulad ng banning of plastic bags.
It started in Los Banos as far as I know. The post below was made in 2009.
I also remember the plastic ban in Los Banos featured by Jessica Soho. Then other municipalities followed like Las Pinas, Muntinlupa. Now MMDA wants to implement the ban in Metro Manila. But the plastic manufacturers are appealing because this will cut sales and production by 30% and they will have to reduce manpower. They say there are other solutions like making the plastic bags biodegradable, which is already being done in some supermarkets. They say the problem is more on disposal which can be addressed by another measure.
There's also a need for plastic bags like for wet goods. Plastic bags are easier to save and recycle.
Then there's the approach done by Rustan's and SM. They encourage use of eco bags which are made of cloth. Plastic bags are used but buyers benefit from using eco bags.
I saw in a tv program of a ranking of the best skylines in the world,
the combined Makati and Ortigas skylines ranked in the Top 20,
medyo astonishing, since we have fewer high rise buildings compared to other countries,
but I think they based it on the number of buildings that surpassed a certain floor,
nevertheless, proud to be pinoy moment.![]()
The government should continue its transparency efforts, where they got the new record high. Kudos!
But it should be more pro-active in managing our economy to alleviate the negative impact of rising prices.

Some positive observations:
1. Many are from rags to riches which should inspire Pinoys.
2. Even in a field which is considered saturated like chicken inasal , there is still opportunity to create a niche and succeed (case of Edgar Sia)
3. All are college graduates but not necessarily honor students (there's hope for the majority)

Right, the appreciation of the peso will adversely affect OFWs and exporters. Bangko Sentral is aware of this and it buys dollars to minimize or avoid sudden/big falls in exchange rates.
On the other hand, importers welcome this development. And since we have more imports than exports, the net effect should be beneficial (dapat bumaba na ang presyo ng gas na nakaka apekto sa marami)
