^ my bad so if your flight to singapore is at 545pm then leave around 2pm. better early than late sa airport.

yes, Bandung weather is quite like Tagaytay and I do suggest that you visit Bandung than Jakarta dahil puro malls lang nga sa Jakarta

re: volcano crater, are you referring to Tangkupan Perahu? then its about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Bandung.

i haven't been there myself so i can't give you pointers. some reviews are posted in TripAdvisor so take heed na lang on the comments.

Thanks. I am now thinking of staying 2 nights at Bandung. I'll just leave early morning for Jakarta. I want to go to Old Batavia to eat at the famous Batavia Cafe before going to the Airport. I'll just leave my luggage at Gambir stn since may lockers daw dun before ako pumuntang Batavia. Then I'll go back to the station to ride the Damri bus to the airport.

    What do you think?

Bandung traffic is a mess. You waste a lot of time sitting in absolute traffic. Nothing much to do there as well. What Tagaytay weather? That was ages ago. Weather in Bandung now is hot and humid. You were probably referring to Puncak. Bandung merits only a day trip IMHO. Unless u are into factory outlet shopping sort, then u would probably like it. But then u have to go from store to store and really browse. If u think puro malls lang sa Jkarta, then don't recommend Bandung as a better alternative dahil it's not.

Hey Marts _8! Glad ur trip to Jaktown went well.

You had Padang food. That's very spicy but yummy after u developed the local taste.

There are lots of McDo here actually. Di mo lang napansin. Mas madaming branches and McDo kesa A&W actually.

Govt tax is imposed on everything here. And everywhere in the world actually. So don't be surprised.

Central Park is right smack in the chaos of the traffic. I havent been there actually dahil sa traffic. OA naman ng Dua Sisi sa Central Park. Most forex would still accept a "defective USD" but subject to a lesser exchange rate lang. Di naman sya ire-reject, unless of course may stamps yung USD mo.

Next time, stay in South Jakarta. That's the best part of town. Lots of trees and better neighborhood.

I should have advised u where to eat near your hotel. Di ko kasi alam ang Take Mansion. There are many other places to eat around there, way better than the ones along Jl. Sabang.

Wala yung coordinator nila that time pero ok naman yung travel namin. the driver will give you yung taxi coupon instead of from the taxi booking stand kasi sarado na yun. May mga nagooffer ng 100k IDR pero hindi ko pinansin baka scam kasi eh. yes, puro malls sa Jakarta pero we want to experience the city kaya ok lang sa amin kahit sinabi ng iba na wala naman makikita dito. Kahit saan mo ata ako dalhin matutuwa ako except siguro sa Africa (don't like animals). We went to Sunda Kelapa, Wayang Museum, History Museum, Bank of Indonesia Museum, Monas, Gambir train station, Glodok.... we rode the TransJakarta and experienced getting squished in Harmoni station at muntik pa kami magkahiwalay kasi yung 2 nasa bus na at kami hindi pa nakakasakay. at sobrang daming tao but the conductor let us in kasi halata ata na tourist kami, hehehe! Mostly grocery yung nauwi namin. Sangkatutak na Kape, krupuk, beauty products, Oishi Pillows Durian, candy, noodles, instant lugaw etc etc Best hypermarket yung Carrefour sa Central Park. You can visit Mangga Dua for bargain shopping. parang 168 siya pero sobrang laki. may items na same sa 168 pero yung iba wala dito.

tsaka uso doon A&W at di McDo. pero parang wala ata silang rootbeer float. Tried J Co donuts tapos mga stalls sa food court na local food. We tried a resto along Jl. Sabang. I guess traditional Indonesian resto siya (someone enlighten me), kasi pag upo namin, they gave us tea, bowl with water and hand towel for washing hands kasi you eat with your right hand but can also request spoon and fork. then naglapag sila ng 10 ulam sa mesa. nagulat kami kasi wala pa kami order. yun pala, just eat what you want then yung sobra ibabalik nila sa kusina. di ko alam kung hygenic ba yun, wala pa naman nagkasakit sa amin so far, hehehehe! Madami din kasi nagpapadeliver doon at take-out tsaka yung mga customer mukhang mga government officials and high ranking businessmen. masarap ang luto kaso lahat may sili although hindi naman sobrang anghang. ma-ulam sila kasi kumain at laging may kropek.

We stayed in Take's Mansion and the receptionist did not charge our first "night" kasi ba naman dahil sa delay eh 4am na kami nakarating ng hotel. buti na lang it was pay upon arrival. masarap yung breakfast buffet nila. hindi naman maanghang lahat. palagi may fried rice, noodle at meat na iba ang luto everyday. then may toasts, fresh fruits, kamatis, pipino at krupuk. coffee, tea and juice. May room service din sila so pag tinaman na kayo magpunta sa tourist area sa kabila pwede kayo magorder. Nasa 28k yung Nasi Goreng. take note when ordering kahit sa ibang resto or food kiosk, subject to 10% tax lahat. ok naman yung rooms kaso maliit ang bathroom at amoy cigarette yung unang room namin. we booked the junior rooms at 350k per night net.

Do not forget to prepare IDR's for airport tax which is 150k per head. if paying in a different currency, mas mahal. 20USD or 25 if in SGD. pag domestic, 45k.

Take only Blue Bird taxis. Kahit mga locals they are not too keen on taking other taxis. yung taxi stand sa mall nga pag hindi Blue Bird, walang sumasakay.

If taking the TransJogja (3500 IDR), ask the conductor or ticket person muna kasi parang iba ang sked ng bus nila pag weekday lalo na yung mga stops near Harmoni. Each bus and station has a conductor and they are happy to help. Women sit at the front part of the bus. Ok naman magsakay ng TransJogja, parang LRT lang na bus.

Dua Sisi in Central Park give the best rates.

Thanks much to coffee101 and Maysapaw! I will post uli pag may naalala ako info

^ Bandung traffic is a mess if its a 3 day weekend. If its Monday-Friday it is not. In addition, it is still summer vacation for students (i think), that means less traffic.

I read her complete itinerary and from there i made my recommendations. If you have an alternative itinerary for her maybe you can post it here. Her travel is till July so she can still adjust her plans.

It's not yet summer vacation for students. Even if already is, then that means worse traffic!

Weekend or not, traffic there is a mess. Believe me.

I was not asked by the person for my recommedation. I would if he/she did. It's not my place to do so unless I was asked.

i agree that Bandung traffic is kinda messy but it's much better than Manila and Bangkok. Tolerable naman.

I've been there 3rd week of April, actually did an overnight trip from Jakarta, roadtrip lang kami coz we have 1 day left in Indonesia. Compared to Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Bandung weather is actually better. Yes, it does feel like Tagaytay, though Tagaytay is actually colder.

I actually enjoyed my stay in Bandung and I do recommend 2 days here to get the most out of it. I love hanging around Jalan Braga

Link to my Indonesian getaway :

    www.goriolakwatsero.com

Day 1 : JAKARTA (yes, malls lang lahat dito ang napuntahan namin the entire day)
Day 2 : YOGYAKARTA (Borobudur, Prambanan)
Day 3 : arrived 3pm in JAKARTA (shopping again)
Day 4 : BANDUNG (6am to 4pm), back to Jakarta around 6pm, flight Manila to Jakarta 11pm

Sulit na sulit na rin pero much better if we have more days to explore Yogya and Bandung

^Thanks guys for the recommendations. I already booked 2 nights at Bandung along the Cihampelas street. They offer tours so I'll do it on my second day.

What tour do you think is better?
North Bandung: Tangkuban Perahu, Ciater Hot Springs, Rumah Mode, Paris Van Java Mall
South Bandung: Kawah Putih, Situ Patengan, Strawberry Farm/Ciwalini Hot Spring, Cibaduyut

Jakarta........been there ages ago...15 years ago to be exact.

I stayed in the house of an Indo-Chinese family somewhere in Kelapa Gading, they were so nice to me, very good hosts and they treated me really well.

I remember, kalakasan pa ng Planet Holywood nun at dun agad nila ako dinala for lunch straight from the airport.....Again nung time na yun uso pa yung mga theme restaurants at medyo nauuna ang Jakarta among Southeast Asian cities sa pag embrace nun...Kinagabihan they treated me out for dinner and drinks at 'Fashion Cafe'...Libre naman kaya sige lang.

I remember going to Sea World, Dunia Fantasy and a trip to Taman Safari in Cisarua Bogor.

I actually enjoyed my stay there.....and was so thankful to my host!

For shopping Rumah Mode and Paris Van Java mall. Cibaduyut is mostly for shoes made in Indonesia.

when i asked some of the Bandung people here in the office, some chose kawah puti and others tangkuban perahu.

1 pinoy officemate has been to kawah puti and she said the place is nice but you just take pictures and then that's it. the smell of sulfur is quite strong, so they did not stayed long.

another pinoy officemate has been to tangkuban perahu and kawah puti, and he prefers the former than the latter.

Hi po, ano po ba ang "socially acceptable" dress code for young ladies sa Jakarta? (i.e. skinny jeans, shirt, may color po ba na dapat i-avoid, etc.)
First time ko po kasi sa Jakarta and I'd be travelling alone. Thanks po.

  16. #256
^wala namang bawal suotin sa Jakarta, which is very much like Manila. Just don't wear very short miniskirts siguro.

    Hi all!!

Surprisingly, I'd be going to Jakarta pala in two weeks for a Hemophilia conference. Yes surprise, wala kasi siya talaga sa life plan ko for the year or something, pero syempre mahirap naman tumanggi sa grasya.

Honestly, I wasn't too excited about going there after reading through Wikitravel. But hey, let's make the most out of the experience, right?

Arriving via the PAL flight via SIN on Friday 1PM then leaving via PAL on Monday PM. Will be in conference Saturday entire day and Sunday until noon.

    So I was wondering:
    1. What places should I go see in the limited time that I have?
    2. What "pasalubong" -- hopefully something representatively Indonesian -- would you recommend and where do I get such?
    3. Do they have Catholic churches there?
    4. I'm a bit of a foodie... Food / Eating places that I should try + recommended markets / supermarkets + Foodstuff I can take home?

    Thanks a lot!!
