    Master's degree

what's the difference between MAN and MSN?

Meron bang university na nagooffer ng MAN/MSN na pede hindi thesis, sa halip comprehensive exam na lang kunin?

kapag ba nag-Master's whether MAN or MSN may major or specialization na yun kasama?

i really want to have a master's degree, so sa mga nagtatake or meron na, tips naman dyan hehe thanks

sa UERM, meron silang MAN and MSN, yung MSN walang thesis instead, you'll be taking up 6 units of Evidenced based Nursing. Pero I think, most universities, mas preferred nila yung MAN kung mag-aaply ka as clinical instructors or lecturers..

sa FEU naman they have this fast track curriculum, in 14 months, you can finish your MAN.

anyway, im taking up MS Public Health major in Epidemiology in UERM..

yup kayang kaya, although I can only speak for UERM kasi yung program nila designed talaga to accommodate working students, every saturday lang classes ko, and tri-sem sya, so I can still expect to graduate in 2 years.

actually it depends kung anong masters degree ang kukunin mo, kung MSN at MAN, yes kailangan ng licence, pero yung katulad ng kinukuha ko, MSPH, hindi kailangan ng license.

To the original poster: I am also in search of School to take MAsters. I am a balikbayan from New York. RN ako and I will be studying here sa Manila kasi it is way cheaper so my boss sa NY can promote me sa Assistant DON position. Kung pwede sa yo, we can look together? I will be going to UERMMC, FEU, Arellano University this week. I am a CEU grad and have inquired there already. I prefer the tri-sem, non-thesis program that is why I am inquiring furthur. Please feel free to call me para we can plan and coordinate, my landline is 474-2300, text ko 0918-671-1847 smart ata ito.

    Hi winslix!

Off topic question: How much is your salary in New York? And would I get a higher salary if I took MAN or MSN?? thank you.

  10. #10
    dude,

MAN or MSN mean nothing if you dont have experience. You just mostly dont do patient care but supervisory administrative positions. Salary is based on years of experience and skill level. Don't clutter your mind so much with figures. Polish your skills, work anywhere and so anything while youre in RP. If your planning to take Masters just because of salary, it wont work. I graduated 1989 when people take up nursing because we want to and not because of money. Nowadays its all about $$$$$$$$. There is a surplus of RNs and overcrowding sa schools because its business. Outsourcing of RN's in the USA is almost non-existent now. Unless you have a petition to go there, it will take you 5+ years and a lot of money to have an agency send you there. IT doesnt make sense.

Winslix, do US credit MSN/MAN taken here in the Philippines? Some people say they do, and some people say they don't. I'm confused! I am currently enrolled at Central Luzon Doctors Hospital in Tarlac City for my MSN and I'm on my 2nd sem. But im planning to drop it in favor for my Nclex review...

Do not listen to opinions. If the USA wont credit MAN here, they might as well not credit you for your BSN too. I can tell you as far as New York State is concerned, and as testimony to a lot of my coworkers who took Masters here sa pinas and are currently holding higher positions because of it, that obviously is credited. If you ask me the rest of the USA, i will safely say I dont know. I will not make assumptions and give you opinions. And just to add, it does NOT matter what school, kahit Madame Auring School of Masters, its fine. Just get good grades and BEST of all, be SKILLED with what you do. EXPERIENCE is the key kahit volunteer lang. Back up your academics with skills and attitude and you will go places. Sad to say as of now it is very hard to get a work visa to the USA.

    winslix,

thanks so much! it really means so much. thank you! well, either way, i think as long as im here in pinas i will continue with my MSN. but i'm just having thoughts whether or not to drop it to fully concentrate on my review. I am in the process of looking for a good review center (my 1st choice is Kaplan, next Gapuz) and a place to stay in baguio to review. I am really worried because i will take the exam oct or early nov and i haven't started reading! So i am really having 2nd thoughts about my MSN right now. thanks so much ha..

Why is it necessary to hold off on the Masters? Di ba once a week lang naman ang sked niyan? NCLEX is just question and answer review and basically, the test is focused on safety, so the ANSWER to any NCLEX question is the one that is the safest and wont harm the patient. Keep that in mind and you WILL PASS!!!

    winslix,

thanks so much **** i really appreciate you answering my questions and concerns.

well, i thought about dropping my MSN for this sem because even if it's only every saturdays, it is still 4 hrs away from baguio. that would mean i have to travel every friday after review because my MSN is at 7am-5:50 pm! Then i will have to travel back to Baguio on Sunday.. parang non-stop diba? walang pahinga... I'm thinking it's too stressful and time-consuming esp not that i have to work double0time. My exam will be schedules this Oct or early NOv.

Oh, i'm worried about medications, laboratory tests and drawings(or pictures hehe)... i hope there will be very little, or none of it will be included in my exam! haha

Really? It's really just a matter of practice in Question and Answer? I haven't made up my whether to review at gapuz or kaplan. If i'd choose Gapuz, i'll have more time to review at home, online and CD's Q&A. If i chose kaplan, i will have little time for other things because they have a laboratory (viewing)-type review that will be up to 4 hrs! Thanks so much! i really need all the help i can get! after securing a place to stay at baguio, i'll enroll in any of the 2 review centers..

I don't think US hospitals credit or recognize if you have MAN or any masters degree.

Kaya nga we take the CGFNS exams and apply for CES (credentials evaluation service) para ma compare and education sa pilipinas and us.

I completed my Masteral in PLM 1995 but and there are rules. Depending on the Masteral degree you like ti take up. Some Masteral degrees requires PRC but some doesnt required.
So what is your BS degree anyway?

I recommend PLM UP if you are in the field of medicine, If engineering graduate then I recommend MIT, DLSU, UP, PLM
    If Nursing PLM and UP.

Matindi ang curriculum sa PLM it is similar with UP and even the professors (Phd's). No I am working great abroad due to this masteral.
You need to take this up as early as possible.

WRONG. Read my previous posts. I am enrolling MAsters here this October with apporval from my hospital in NYC. Cheaper here. My co-workers also took Masters here sa pinas w/o any problems.

I disagree with you. Not all states require CGFNS. CGFNS is basically a money making organization to screen foreign graduates. I work in NYC. A few of my co-workers never had CGFNS, a few of them also took Masters sa Pinas w/o any credentialing problems whatsoever. How did you come up with your reply? Hearsays are very misleading. I only share first hand info. California, Florida, and NY are some of the states that I KNOW that doesnt require CGFNS. BUt should you apply for a work visa here sa pinas, then CGFNS is required, however if you are already in the US and apply for NCLEX on the states I mentioned, then you dont need CGFNS. JUST THE FACTS. I HAVE BEEN A PRACTICING RN IN GEORGIA AND NEW YORK SINCE 1990.
