so until it is actually outlawed in black and white, p2p will generally be unhampered and enjoyed by anyone who has a pc and access to cyberspace. without a guilty conscience. at least i know i do.
Copying a file to your machine is not illegal.
The problem comes from looking at exactly what kinds of files are being downloaded.

Downloading copyrighted files without permission is illegal. And it doesn't matter what technology you happen to use to do it: bitTorrent, FTP, web downloads, email or getting a CD in the mail. If the material is copyrighted and you didn't pay for or otherwise get the legal right or license to receive those files, those are all copyright violations.

strictly, speaking, yes. but as i mentioned in an earlier post today, downloading via p2p through the internet is the same principle as borrowing an original audio cd from a friend, and then copying it through your pc. or going back to two decades ago, borrowing a vinyl record from a classmate and then recording it on a cassette tape. the recording labels didn't seem to have a problem with that before. but now that the digital age has made it possible for the same principle to happen between two individuals from opposite sides of the world using the net, it does pose a problem for recording corporations because of the potentially massive lost selling opportunities.

i said it was a gray area because if it weren't, don't you think these same recording firms would have chased the likes of kazaa/limewire/torrent sites by now? my supposition is that in the u.s., the copyright laws either do not have the teeth yet to specifically pin down p2p sites, or there are simply too many of them now to make it a viable fight.

the trend these days is paid downloads using the same cyberspace infrasturcture. might be their way of saying, 'if you can't beat 'em, might as well earn from the same data superhighway.'

    needs to be snipped.

internet is not a luxury to me, but I need to cut off my time wasted infront of the computer.

shopping is a part of being infront of the pc.

being on the phone is noticeably increasing as well. I need to be more active than sitting and yapping.
