    ose Rizal University Heavy Bombers
2011 record: 4th, 9-10, Lost to San Beda 83-74 in the Final Four, October 17, 2011
Additions: Brandon Porter, Rhyle Salaveria, Aban Camasura, Philip Mabulac, Rommel Diaperas, John Maconocido, Daryll Munez
Subtractions: Jeckster Apinan, Carlos Dizon, Raycon Kabigting, John Montemayor, Michael Tiongco?Holdovers: John Lopez, Alex Almario, Ronnel Carampil, Cris Dela Paz, Nate Matute, Romnick Mendoza, Ralph Monserat, John Villarias
Background: JRU ended the FilOil preseason with a 3-5 record. Their offensive production dipped from 71 during Season 87 to 66.5 during the summer. Their turnovers are at a constant since 2011 at 20 per game. Rebounding has not improved at 39 per game against 41 in Season 87. This means a whole lot of work for the Heavy Bombers if they want to improve their post elimination record.
Key Changes: Pressure defense will be their main weapon to create points off turnovers. Without a legitimate bigman, none in that roster has had a double-digit performance on the rebounding department during the preseason and that alone would limit their options offensively.
Outlook: Nate Matute has improved offensively from 32% FG % in Season 87 to 36% during the preseason but he should not carry that burden alone. The veterans would have to step-up and work on both ends.
Phil-American rookie Brandon Porter is a late addition to the team but is expected to play right away alongside Matute in the backcourt and would probably come off the bench as a reliever to veteran playmaker, Alex Almario. John Lopez, Ralph Monserat, who got 10 rebounds in their game against the Blazers last May 30, and Cris dela Paz will have to work extra hard on the glass.
Prognosis: Their defensive pressure will fuel their offense and that has been their system since the Aerial Voyager took over as coach since Season 86. With the other teams improving, they will be a threat to JRU’s Final Four ambitions.

Ang init ni Matute sa game na to against AU. Kahit anong pukol sa tres eh pasok. 29 points na yata to.

I still remember na siya yung gumawa when we lost to JRU.

JRU still has a lot to work on. They committed many fouls and turnovers. If only AU was able to convert a little more in the free throw line than they did, it would have been a different outcome.

But still, this is a more convincing win than the first game. I hope the Bombers get make less turnovers and commit less fouls on their next games.

Despite of having a 2-0 card, JRU still has a lot to work on. Only 15 FT attempt for JRU against 23 for Mapua on the first game, and then, only 9 cracks at the strip against 33 for Arellano. And on each of those games, JRU committed 25 TOs.

I hope they could do something quick to improve on those spots, as they will have a hard time winning against SBC, SSC, Letran and the other improved teams if they fail to.

Good start bombers. But still the competition for you guys are still ahead. Lets see when you meet the tougher teams in the league. Goodluck to your team.

Finally saw the stats for the game.

The bad side of things for the Heavy Bombers is they are the worst team in terms of fouls committed, number of trips of their opponents to the stripe as compared to their own, number of turnovers committed, and their opponents so far had more points off turnovers that they converted themselves, despite of employing the back court press they are known for.

So many concerns needed to be addressed, as they will have a hard time against the taller teams should they keep on performing like they have done so as a team in the past three games.

But, my fellow JRU alumni, please don't get me wrong. I'm behind the bombers, of course. I just want to be realistic, as I wish the Bombers can work on improving on their weaknesses that will probably be exposed once they get to play the taller and more talented teams.

    Go Bombers!

The game against the Stags today will be an acid test for the Bombers.

Will the usual problems of theirs still persist? Will their back court press strategy do any good? Will they be more careful in handling the ball, and will they be able to limit their fouls? Will they get to the free throw line more than they did in each of their last three games?

    I have my fingers crossed...
