Kapuso actor hihiramin para kina Angel at Angelica

SANGA-SANGANDILA Ni Veronica R. Samio (Pilipino Star Ngayon) Updated April 22, 2012

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo Reunited in 'The Mistress' Movie
    Posted on April 25, 2012

Seasoned love team John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo are set to reunite in a movie entitled The Mistress. The said movie is another Star Cinema offering in celebration of John Lloyd and Bea's 10th year anniversary as a love team.

Bea and John Lloyd interviewed by ABS-CBN
about their reunion movie, The Mistress

Both Bea and John Lloyd are excited about this reunion movie. In an interview with TV Patrol's Gretchn Fullido on Wednesday, April 25, Lloydie said that he is looking forward to shooting his reunion movie with Bea because both of them have already grown up as actors.

“Sobrang excited ako kung paano magiging batuhan namin ni Bea sa mga eksena kasi iba na si Bea ngayon, iba na rin ako,” John Lloyd told ABS-CBN news.

“Ten years na pala kami no? I'm so excited [and] at the same time challenged. With John Lloyd, you always need to be on your toes. It’s always refreshing to work with John Lloyd,” remarked Bea Alonzo.

Their reunion movie, The Mistress will tackle a controversial theme and they will be playing deep and sensitive roles. The movie is about infidelity and it will surely be a talk-of-the-town just like No Other Woman.

The said movie will be helmed by award-winning director, Olivia M. Lamasan (Milan, In My Life, In The Name of Love).

If I was not mistaken, this is supposed to be the movie which will star Bea Alonzo and Derek Ramsay if not for the decision of Star Cinema to replace Derek who recently transferred to TV5.

Aside from this reunion movie, Bea and John Lloyd will also take part in the star-studded Star Magic 20th anniversary movie. John Lloyd had already shoot some scenes in Vietnam with Angelica Panganiban for this movie.

Fans will also be delighted with Bea and John Lloyd's upcoming teleserye, A Beautiful Affair which will be shot in Vienna, Austria.

Bea nd John Lloyd last worked together in the big screen via Miss You Like Crazy in 2010 and in the teleserye I Love Betty La Fea way back in 2009.

Angel Locsin denies network transfer: ‘Iba talaga mag-alaga ang ABS-CBN’
    4/28/2012 2:25 AM
    by: Rhea Manila Santos

Angel Locsin recently signed contracts with both ABS-CBN and Star Cinema last April 27 at the ABS-CBN compound. Also present at the contract signing were Ethel Ramos, Angel’s manager; ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio; and Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos. Angel signed a three-year four-picture deal with Star Cinema.

“I’m very happy. Itong isang movie magsisimula na itong May kasama si papa Dingdong (Dantes) at si Angelica Panganiban. Ang magdi-drect si Ruel Bayani na napakagaling na director. I’m very excited na maka-trabaho si Direk Ruel. Yung isa naman yung kasama sila Bea Alonzo, Toni Gonzaga, Angelica Panganiban at saka ako. Tapos yung pangatlo may pinaplano kaming pelikula with Vhong Navarro naman. Kung anong type ng pelikula, abangan niyo na lang (laughs),” she shared. Angel admitted that there are also plans for a reunion movie with her original love team partner Richard Gutierrez.

Angel denied reports that she was recently on the grounds of her former network, which sparked rumors of a possible transfer. “Yun na nga may chismis nga. Baka yung mga dating mga posters ko nakikita nila pero hindi. Minsan gusto ko dumalaw pero hindi pupuwede (laughs). Hindi ko alam kung saan nagsimula yun,” she clarified.

Angel said she is also looking forward to starting work on a new television series later this year. “May gagawin akong teleserye. Kung sino makakasama ko abangan niyo (laughs) kasi inaabangan ko rin. Pa-alagwa na siya this year sisimulan na yung teleserye na gagawin. And bukod sa Toda Max na ginagawa namin ngayon with Tito Robin (Padilla) and Vhong Navarro,” she said.

The 27-year-old actress admitted she is very much satisfied with the way her career is going ever since she transferred to the Kapamilya network. “Ako lagi kong sinasabi na thankful talaga ako sa ABS-CBN especially to Star Cinema kasi binibigyan talaga ako ng proyektong de-kalibre talaga. Yung mas makikilala ka bilang isang actress, narerespeto ka sa craft mo. Iba talaga mag-alaga ang ABS-CBN. I’m excited. Happy lang ako na naging official na Kapamilya ulit ako ng ABS-CBN,” she said.

Angel said that the she has learned a lot over the years and the recognition she has gotten has also boosted her confidence in acting and has made her happy to remain a part of ABS-CBN. “Marami kasi like yung mga awards na natatanggap ko simula nung lumipat ako sa ABS-CBN. Sobrang laking bagay. Sa mga kaibigan, sa mga nakakasama ko ngayon, mga kahit hindi tungkol sa trabaho, kahit sa personal, malaki na tulong talaga sa akin.”

Angel added that she wants to always do her best for her fans and her co-workers. “Bilang artista pinaghihirapan ko talaga yung trabaho ko at gusto ko talaga bawat project may mapapakita ako na mas bago para sa audience and siyempre para sa patuloy na sumusuporta, mga fans ko, na kung hindi naman dahil sa kanila, wala naman tayo dito,” she said.

Angel Locsin sticks it out with ABS-CBN
    By ROWENA JOY A. SANCHEZ
    April 28, 2012

Angel Locsin dispelled her alleged recent sighting at the premises of GMA-7 for a meeting—a purported move that roused speculations that she might return to her former home network.

The Kapuso network has earlier belied the rumor, while Angel confessed that she’s clueless on where it originated.

“Baka ‘yung mga dating mga posters ko nakikita nila pero hindi. Minsan gusto ko dumalaw pero hindi pupuwede,” she said with a laugh in an interview with Push.

Angel remains loyal to her mother studio since her controversial transfer in 2007, as evidenced by the renewal of her contracts with ABS-CBN and its film arm, Star Cinema, last April 27. She’s likewise grateful over how she has grown as their talent over the years.

“’Yung mas makikilala ka bilang isang actress, nire-respeto ka sa craft mo. Iba talaga mag-alaga ang ABS-CBN...,” she enthused.

The recognitions she has received (including her recent Best Actress trophies from a number of award-giving bodies for the film “In The Name of Love”), as well as the friendships she has formed, are apparently gems that Angel cherishes.

“Sa mga kaibigan, sa mga nakakasama ko ngayon, mga kahit hindi tungkol sa trabaho, kahit sa personal, malaki na tulong talaga sa akin,” she added.

She also continues to work hard and be at her best.

“Bilang artista pinaghihirapan ko talaga ‘yung trabaho ko at gusto ko talaga bawat project may mapapakita ako na mas bago para sa audience and siyempre para sa patuloy na sumusuporta, mga fans ko, na kung hindi naman dahil sa kanila, wala naman tayo dito,” said she.

Lined up for Angel to do are three films under Star Cinema: the first with Dingdong Dantes and Angelica Panganiban; the second also with Angelica, as well as Bea Alonzo and Toni Gonzaga, and third with her “Toda Max” co-star Vhong Navarro. She might also do a reunion film with her former onscreen partner Richard Gutierrez.

Angel is thankful for the friendships she made
and the recognitions she got since moving
to the Kapamilya network (ABS-CBN/Jojit Lorenzo)

Malou’s appeal to Derek: Just tell the truth

FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo The Philippine Star Updated May 01, 2012

Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos called up Funfare yesterday to clarify the item about Derek Ramsay having been “unceremoniously” taken out of The Mistress, replaced by John Lloyd Cruz as the leading man of Bea Alonzo (with Hilda Koronel and Ronaldo Valdez as the other members of the cast).

Malou said that Derek did shoot for the movie for only three days and not seven days as Funfare reported.

Before Derek signed up with the Kapatid Network TV5, Malou admitted that Star Cinema/ABS-CBN did make a counter-offer for both film and TV, without mentioning the talent fee involved. According to the network’s official statement, Derek must have been offered by TV5 an amount “na hindi namin kayang tapatan.” Derek and his manager Joji denied that Derek bit the TV5 offer to the tune of P600 million (too much, too much!?!).

“I spoke to Joji about management’s decision last April 4 at 5 p.m.,” recalled Malou. “The text of Derek came a few minutes after that. It said, ‘Hi, Tita. I heard the sad news na papalitan n’yo po ako sa movie. Thank you, Tita, for the opportunity. Best wishes.’ I texted him back, ‘I hope you understand the decision of management.’ He replied, ‘Yes, I do.’ So it’s not true that we replaced Derek without his being informed about it.”

Citing the case of Aga Muhlach who also moved from Kapamilya to Kapatid, Malou said it was an entirely different story.

“Aga was shooting his Star Cinema movie In The Name Of Love with Angel Locsin when his negotiations with TV5 were going on, but he made the official announcement only when the movie was done and ready to be shown,” explained Malou. “In the case of Derek, nauna ang announcement ng paglipat n’ya sa TV5 before the movie was even finished.”

Malou has one appeal to Derek: “As I wish you luck and I respect your decision (to sign up with another network), just tell the truth. Huwag lang magsalita ng hindi tama at hindi totoo.”

Every Breath You Take Grosses P10 Million on It's First Day!
    Posted on May 18, 2012

Star Cinema's 19th anniversary opening salvo, Every Breath You Take starring Piolo Pascual and Angelica Panganiban has grossed P10 million on its first day according to the film outfit.

Watching movies in theaters is still the best
LIVE FEED By Bibsy M. Carballo (The Philippine Star) Updated May 21, 2012

Last May 2, we wrote about a resurgence of live movie watching in theaters after which we received a lot of e-mails from people agreeing with the observation. Today, the practice continues albeit with less success income-wise due to competition from worldwide blockbusters like The Avengers. During this period, we watched The Mommy Returns, Every Breath You Take, 21 Jump Street, American Pie Reunion and Dark Shadows.

On the local front, all we can say and we’ve said this before, thank heavens for a Mother Lily Monteverde whose love for Filipino movies makes her go out on a limb to keep the industry alive. The Mommy Returns pays tribute to The Mummy Returns (the Brendan Fraser film wherein a mummy wakes up and terrorizes his enemies), although it has nothing in common with the US film except that it was shown in Manila in May 2001, and Mother’s feng shui could have been at work. With big-name brands like Pokwang, Gabby Concepcion and Ruffa Gutierrez, with Joel Lamangan at the helm, Mommy Returns has a dead Pokwang coming back to earth as a ghost to frighten Ruffa out of the family.

Meanwhile, we have been among those hoping the best for Star Cinema’s Every Breath U Take (Piolo Pascual and Angelica Panganiban), that its results help ease whatever pain Piolo must be going through silently. Latest word is positive. A good person like Piolo and a good film deserve its dues. The film is a delightful package that utilizes Angelica’s comic flair to the hilt, and offers Piolo more opportunity to do comedy and action apart from the drama and romance component. Ryan Bang in his introductory role is a riot. And director Mae Cruz as usual overdoes herself in every picture she helms.

We find ourselves once again praying earnestly that another Star Cinema film Born to Love You scheduled for release on May 30 makes it at the box office. After all, it is the first time for Star Power champion Angeline Quinto to appear in the movies, first for lead actor Coco Martin to do a romance film, first movie for veteran teleserye director Jerome Pobocan, but then again, there might be some secret in bringing these first-timers together.

    NEW RELEASES FROM STAR CINEMA

STAR Cinema's Mico del Rosario says the John Lloyd Cruz-Sarah Geronimo movie will have to take a back seat now that John Lloyd Cruz is busy shooting “The Mistress” with Bea Alonzo, directed by Olive Lamasan, and will also start a new teleserye with Bea and Megan Young, “A Beautiful Affair.” While Sarah is waiting for John Lloyd to be available for their reunion movie, she’ll just team up again with Gerald Anderson.

After “Every Breath You Take”, they’ll show “Born to Love You” with Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto, then they will release “Kimmy Dora 2 in the Temple of Kiyeme” with Eugene Domingo and Dingdong Dantes on June 13. Other movies lined up are “El Brujo,”a horror-suspense starring Gerald Anderson; “The Healing,” a thriller about body doubles starring Gov. Vilma Santos, Kim Chiu, Pokwang, Janice de Belen, directed by Chito Rono (‘One shooting day na lang but matagal ang post-prod due to the special effects’, adds Mico), “The Reunion,” a youth movie based on the songs of the Eraserheads starring Xian Lim, Enchong Dee, Kean Cipriano, Jessy Mendiola, Megan Young, Julia Montes and Bangs Garcia directed by Frasco Mortiz; and a star-studded romance ala-“Love Actually” and “Valentine’s Day” topbilled by John Lloyd Cruz and Angelica Panganiban whose scenes were filmed in Vietnam no less.

ANGELICA NOT INTERESTED IN DEREK ANYMORE

IS it true Derek Ramsay is trying to reconcile with Angelica Panganiban and tried to court her again but she’s no longer interested in him? We heard it’s Angelica who initiated the breakup as she felt Derek has long been neglecting her, especially when he decided to move to TV5. No, ABS-CBN didn’t influence her to dump him. It’s her own decision. She is now in the process of getting all her things from Derek’s place, a sure sign she won’t be coming back.

But a Derek fan says she’ll regret her decision. “It’s her loss, not Derek’s. Magmalaki sana siya kung kumita 'yung pelikula nila ni Piolo, 'no? E, si Derek, tatlong pelikula ang sunod-sunod na kumita: ‘No Other Woman’, ‘Praybeyt Benjamin’ at ‘Corazon’.”

Kris also in Ai-Ai-Vice Ganda movie
    Published : Wednesday, May 23, 2012
    Written by : Nitz Miralles

Angel & Zanjoe together in Baguio
    Published : Saturday, May 26, 2012
    Written by : Nel Alejandrino

NASA Baguio ngayon at magkasama sina Angel Locsin and Zanjoe Marudo for what is referred to in showbiz as “movie immersion,” since both of them play natives of Baguio City in their first movie together, One More Try, also starring Angelica Panganiban and Dingdong Dantes.

Eh, never have they stayed in Baguio for a long time to really get the feel of the place.

Like all tourists in the City of Pines, the most number of days na namamalagi sila ng Baguio ay three or four.

"But as natives of Baguio," said Angel. "We are not only supposed to look and act like them. We also have to speak, lalo't kung kaming dalawa lang, in their dialect which happens to be Ilocano pala.

"Kami ni Angel," Zanjoe cuts in, "tubong-Luzon kami. She is a Manilenya since birth. Ako naman, I spent most of my childhood and growing up years sa Batangas.

"Kaya Tagalog ang dialect, if not language, we grew up with.

"Star Cinema will provide us with an Ilocana tutor kaya watch out kayong mga taga-Ilocandia riyan. One of these days, we will be talking to you in Ilocano," dugtong pa ni Zanjoe.

    * * *

IN One More Try, Angel and Zanjoe play childhood friends who are as close as can be.

Although there was never any formal courtship between them, it was assumed, especially by their respective families and friends, that they are in a relationship.

Until Dingdong comes into Angel's life. She finds herself instantly in love with him.

So engrossed is she sa kanyang nararamdaman kay Dingdong hanggang sa kahit sarili niya, ipinaubaya na niya sa lalaki.

All the while, Zanjoe, who has learned to love his childhood friend unconditionally, watches everything on the sideline.

But when she meets him again, matutuklasan niyang kasal na ito kay Angelica.

Box-office director Ruel Bayani directs One More Try for Star Cinema.

Excited daw si Direk Ruel na masimulan ang movie, as it is his first time raw to work with all four stars.

After the box-office success of Star Cinema’s Every Breath You Take; another offering, Born To Love You, still taken from a title of a hit song comes our way on Wednesday, May 30, says promo diva Josie Pereyra of JSP Ads & Promotions.

This is the much-awaited team-up of Coco Martin and Star Factor winner Angeline Quinto, her first acting attempt. Coco is said to be her “crush” and she’s so candid to admit, though said in jest, that she enjoyed their kissing scene which was shot in several takes.

Will Coco and Angeline come to Cebu for the promo of the movie? Let’s wait and see. The last time a movie promo was graced with the presence of a cast member was that of Corazon where Derek Ramsay came to town.

That was a couple of months or so ago.

PANGANIBAN AND PASCUAL. Who knew love could be this dangerous?

IT’S always a treat to watch Angelica Panganiban—even when the movie she stars in turns out to be a downer. In “Every Breath U Take,” the versatile actress once again proves that her comedic style is as impressive as her dramatic flair.

In Mae Czarina Cruz’s screwball rom-com, Panganiban portrays clueless Majoy Marasigan, who relies on signs and serendipity to guide her through life’s tough hurdles. But when the gullible virgin sets her sights on the elusive Leo Dimalanta (Piolo Pascual), Majoy unwittingly sets herself up for heartbreak when she fails to see the inveterate playboy hiding deceptively behind Leo’s sensitive eyes, dashing good looks, and ripped physique.

    Gorgeous pairing

If you’re familiar with the Filipino rom-com genre, you won’t need signs and magical visions to know how this movie plays out—which is a shame, because it gets off to a good start. In fact, the production hits the ground running as it establishes the whats, whys and wherefores of the narrative, bolstered further by Piolo and Angelica’s gorgeous pairing!

It doesn’t take long for the film to lose steam, however, as its story meanders into loopy detours that throw the movie out of whack. As it careens willy-nilly into a perfunctory finale, the production allows its zany supporting characters to take over Majoy and Leo’s love story and dilute its impact.

Thereafter, the couple finds themselves in the ensuing melee that involves Majoy’s Korean suitor, Ji Sun (the endearing and hilarious Ryan Bang); Leo’s desperate girlfriend, Dianne (Wendy Valdez), and her doting but demented brothers (Smokey Manaloto, Carlos Agassi and Joross Gamboa), and Leo’s manipulative, gun-toting rival, Mario (Ryan Eigenmann). Who knew love could be this dangerous?

    Reason

The dreamy Piolo can portray his role with eyes closed—but the 35-year-old heartthrob is starting to look a little long in the tooth as the career-driven character into whom he’s required to breathe thespic life—a role that’s better suited for younger guys. And, despite the reason offered by the script to explain Leo’s seeming misogyny, his psychological motivation fails to transform his actions into an empathetic portrayal to which one can relate. Moreover, his sudden change of heart is too much of a knee-jerk reaction to be believable.

For her part, Panganiban breezes through the complex—and contrasting—requirements of her role. She shifts from drama to comedy (and back) seamlessly—as she effectively demonstrates in the “Ano ba’ng ibig sabihin ng gullible?” scene, in which she makes viewers laugh and cry at the same time. That is certainly no mean feat!

    MAY 28, 2012 MONDAY

    Lalaking-lalaki. Matipuno. Moreno. Mukhang mabango.

Dumungis man ay lalo pang nakakatuliro.

Coco always delivers, always fulfills his audience’s fantasies.

    ***

Angeline Quinto is reminiscent of Judy Ann Santos.

She is blessed in many ways.

Magaling kumanta. Marunong umarte. Masarap hangaan.

Angeline Quinto shall become a threat to Sarah Geronimo.

After all, we are all born to love.

'Every Breath U Take' earns P25.5M in five days

MANILA, Philippines – Star Cinema’s “Every Breath U Take” earned an estimated P25,517,397 in its first five days in theaters, latest data from the website Box Office Mojo showed.

The romantic comedy starring Angelica Panganiban and Piolo Pascual was also the top-grossing movie in the Philippines for the period May 16-20, as it squeaked past the blockbuster hit “The Avengers,” which tumbled to No. 2 after spending the last three weeks as the country’s top movie.

The superhero movie has now earned P616,933,823 since its release in the Philippines four weeks ago, solidifying its position as the all-time top-grossing film in the country. On its fourth week, “The Avengers” was still playing on 158 screens, compared to only 130 for “Every Breath U Take.”

“Every Breath U Take” also had the best debut among the four new releases for the period. Jason Statham’s latest action caper “Safe” bowed at No. 5 with estimated earnings of P4,460,445, while the animated movie, “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” earned P2,073,521 at No. 7.

The chick flick “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Lopez bombed as it failed to hit even the P1-million mark, earning only P849,230 in its first weekend.

The other local movie on the charts, the Mother’s Day offering “The Mommy Returns,” has now earned P27,775,159 after two weekends.

Here are the top 10 movies from May 16-20 according to Box Office Mojo:

    1. “Every Breath U Take”
    2. “The Avengers”

Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto shine in ‘Born To Love You’
    5/31/2012
    by: Rhea Manila Santos

Despite the gloomy weather, fans of both Coco Martin and Angeline Quinto trooped to the Born To Love You premiere night at SM Megamall in Ortigas last May 29. Even Coco’s and Angeline’s celebrity friends proved to be just as excited with the event as early birds Paulo Avelino, Melissa Ricks, Vina Morales, Jed Madela, and Julia Montes were among the first to be seated in the theater. The cast of Primetime Bida’s hit fantaserye Aryana—Ella Cruz, Paul Salas, Michelle Vito and David Chua—also showed up at the premiere.

Sam Milby, Robi Domingo, Joem Bascon, and Jason Francisco all arrived solo. Slater Young, Markki Stroem, Kit Thompson, and Carlo Romero elicited some screams from fans while walking down the red carpet.

Coco’s other Walang Hanggan co-stars also showed their support for him at the premiere. Dawn Zulueta was there with husband Anton Lagdameo while Richard Gomez came with his wife, Ormoc congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez.

“The movie is cute. Ito yung movie na gusto mong matawa, gusto mong maiyak, gusto mong ma-in love. Cute yung acting ni Angeline. Gusto ko yung brand ng acting niya. Maraming mga touching moments. Maganda yung scene na nasa riles sila ng tren, magkayakap sila,” said Richard. His wife Lucy also agreed with the novelty of the movie. “I think it was refreshingly funny. Si Coco was his usual cute and adorable character. A very, very nice combination. It was very unpredictable. Akala mo maiiyak then biglang matatawa ka. Para siyang loka-loka. It’s cute. Very cute.”

In Born To Love You, Coco plays the role of Rex, a talented photographer with a sad past. He crosses paths with Joey, an outspoken tourist guide whom he can’t seem to get along with at first. What ensues is a journey of discovery for both of them on what really matters in life.

After a grueling eight months of shooting, Coco admitted he feels fulfilled after watching the outcome of their hard work in Born To Love You. “Sobrang nagpoapasalamat ako sa lahat ng taong sumuporta at nagmahal sa amin ni Angeline. Finally napalabas na rin yung pelikula. Masasabi ko na sulit ang hirap at pagod namin dito nung napanuod naming yung acceptance ng audience. Hindi ako nag-expect pero nung napanuod ko na yung pelikula habang nag-du-dubbing ako, nakita ko na yung potential eh. Kumbaga kahit ako bilang artista na ako mismo yung gumaganap, kinikilig ako and then nakaka-inspired, nakaka-in love. Kaya sabi ko sulit talaga,” he shared.

Angeline, on the other hand, admitted that she had premiere night jitters.
