We didn't need to be interviewed, but that may depend on the visa classification that you're applying for.

I have a question about the invitation/guarantor letter. What if I don't know anyone in Japan who can issue an invitation/guarantor letter? Will this make it harder to get a tourist visa?

  6. #26
@ nutshell: If your BF doesn't want to cooperate, maybe you could try applying for the regular tourist visa na lang.

@ Kaiser88: Not really. Just give them your planned itinerary, and documents that prove your ties to the Philippines and your finances.

    hi illumina!

have u heard of the Visa information and Application Center (VIA) in Makati?
they process Japan Visa daw for 800. mga 7 working days daw. What if hindi kasama sa list ng accredited travel agencies yong papagawan ko ng visa? pwede ba yon?
sabi kasi sa akin ng Rakso travel, i have to course it through the VIA kesa ako personal pumunta ng Japan embassy.
is it more advisable to course it through agencies like this?

    thanks!

    @illumina
ok that will be my 3rd option...1st option failed...then 2nd option *** fiance petition chuva chuva visa...hehe...***** nya yan saken a while ago eh....*** lang ndi pa complete details....bukas pa nya mlalaman yung details eh....(never daw **** nya ipagkakatiwala military id nya sa japanese embassy...)....then 3rd option ko na regular tourist visa....haysss...gudlak saken...hehe

@ kaila: VIA is actually accredited by the Japanese Embassy. It's the very first entry on the list.
    http://www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp/visiti...tofagents1.htm
And, yes, like I said earlier, the Japanese Embassy discourages personal appearances and prefers that applicants would just submit their applications through accredited agencies.
If you ask a non-accredited agency, they do not have the authority with the Embassy to actually process the visa on your behalf...what they're going to do lang is hold your place in line at the Embassy, and you still have to do a personal appearance.
So, by all means, go with an accredited agency. 800 pesos is a good price. Go ahead with VIA; it's nice that they also do pick-up and delivery.

@ nutshell: Good luck na lang.

    thanks illumina!

are the requirements listed on their website enough? or we do have to present additional documents?

there is a requirement that says letter from guarantor... if we dont know anybody in japan, that part is not needed? we are going there painly as tourist and no one we know will tour us around.

  11. #31
Well.... If you want to be doubly sure, you can submit some extra documents that could prove your ties here. In my case, I also submitted my CoE and an authorized leave form from my company, on top of my ITR and bank statements. My dad also submitted (photocopies of) land and car registrations, stock certificates, and insurance statements. On top of the invitation letter, we also submitted photocopies of the passports of our relatives in Japan (our direct relative with a Philippine passport, married to a Japanese husband), whom we were meeting there. We traveled as a family.

Yes, the guarantor's letter is NOT a mandatory requirement. It also does say on the website that the invitation/guarantor's letter is "not applicable if package tour". In that case, ask for some sort of documentation on the package tour from the travel agency, or you can make your daily schedule yourself.

    Good luck.

    Good luck.
is the self-made itinerary or schedule as listed in the requirements section be enough for me not to have a guarantor's letter? we are not travelling via package tour kasi so enough na kaya yong self made itinerary?

    thanks!

    Good luck.
should all requirements be original? will they return them? like sa bank certification, ok lang kahit hindi na ma-return. how about the NSO birth certificate?
how about yong mga land titles, ITR, SEC reg ng business, car registration, etc... pwede bang xerox? or kelngan talaga original?

  14. #34
Regarding your first post, I'm not sure about that myself. It depends on the purpose of your trip. You can ask your travel agent or VIA for clarification.
In our case, we submitted a daily schedule that was half package tour, half self-made itinerary...but we also had a Japanese guarantor.

As for the second post, your documents like the NSO birth certificate, ITR, and bank statements will not be returned, if I remember correctly. Whatever is listed as a requirement on the website should be original. But like I said earlier, we only opted to submit photocopies of the additional documents, like the LTO registration.

I've been to HK and Thailand, enough na kaya yun for tourist visa? I just want to go shopping in Japan and I love to travel lang talaga I had a green card dati sa US pero I lost it na pati old passport ko. Current passport ko may stamp ng Thailand trip ko, enough na kaya mga ito?

I have 225k savings in different banks, house payments through pag-ibig for 10 more years. I am a single mom. Will be leaving my 2 kids (age 3 and 7) here. I don't have relatives here in the Philippines, they are all in the US. No work kasi online seller ako full time. Free ba visa application pag through the Japanese Embassy ang application?

  16. #36
^^ If you're applying for a tourist visa, you MUST do it through an authorized agency.

Effective 30th of July, 2007, visa applications at the Consulate-General of Japan at Manila must be made through agencies accredited by the Consulate-General. All applications through these accredited agencies will be accepted at the Consulate-General of Japan at Manila.
Here are the only exceptions, which require a direct appearance at the Consulate-General:

Direct applications may be accepted at the Consulate-General at Manila, Consular Offices in Cebu and Davao for the following specific cases:

    (1) Diplomatic or Official visas

    (2) Visas for invitees by the Japanese government organization/ institution, independent administrative agencies of Japan

    (3) Visas for invitees of Japan local governments or national/municipal educational institutions of Japan to participate in educational/cultural exchange programs and youth exchange programs

    (4) Visas for scholarship awardees sponsored by the government of Japan

    (5) Visas for commercial purpose of employees of a joint venture company or a branch office of a Japanese enterprise listed in the Japanese Stocks Exchange or a member of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines

    (6) For cases requiring humanitarian consideration such as serious illness of relative in Japan(This include cases wherein the applicant has custody of the biological child of a Japanese national and the purpose is to raise that child in Japan by himself/ herself.)

Hi, I would like to go to Japan this November to visit a friend of mine. I'm a fresh grad but already working (6 months na working this september) in Hewlett-Packard.

I'm planning to stay at my friends' place. Kaso surpresahin ko sya kaya hindi ako makahingi ng letter.

    Thank you!

sorry i have no time to check the jap embassy web site. pero based on past experience, i would suggest that all gov't issued documents must have been released the past six months. example, birth cert. - dapat not more than six (or three nga yata) months yung NSO stamp. gusto nila bago lahat ng documents if applicable. i'm sure may list sa web site.

basta bring documents or proof na may babalikan ka sa pinas (property, job, etc); and proof of your relationship with the person you are visiting.

based on experience masungit ang mga pinoy na consul. do not be disheartened pag tinanggihan ka. pag hapon, mabait sila and sasabihin pa sa yo kung ano kailangan mo dalhin para ka mabigyan ng visa. if they deny you a visa, ask why. normally kulang lang yun documents mo. di tulad sa US embassy, pahirapan.

  19. #39
Hmm ok. so may pinoy at hapon pala na consul? I dont have to go to them directly right?
Gusto ko na din dumaan sa agency para mas sure na makakuha ng visa.

Buti na lang bago lang yung birth cert. ko.. Mga magkano kaya kailangan ko? Since may place na ako mapagstayan dun and stuff.

i quickly browsed through the jap embassy visa web site this AM. iba na pala procedures. dati kasi (2005) ang tours drop box lang. and all others may appearance. bawal ang travel agency. and walang babyaran na fees - libre lahat. iba na pala ngayon. siguro ang daming nag-aaply kaya binago nila.

anyway, if you are asking about pocket money, depende sa gusto mong gawin sa japan. kung sightseeing ka lang, i don't think you need a lot of money. pwede ka naman sumakay ng tram (densha) and it normally costs Yen1200 up for distances lasting 1+ hours. malayo na mararating mo nun. kung di ka pihikan sa food, siguro mga Yen350 for a small set lunch. i hope di nagbago mga price dun.
