The Premise of Amazing Race is to Race around the Globe. Amazing Race Asia and Africa is just ok because its a continent and the Brazil version is acceptable because its a large country with different states.
The best reality show... who care which show STARTED it all, what matters is which one is THE BEST.
And this is it.
Pero, I doubt ABS can afford a production like this. Pwede kunin ang local broadcast rights ng TARAsia to air on ABS-CBN proper in addition to AXN.
The other thing that concerns me kung pano schedule ng palabas.
di ba yung nagmamahal kapamilya nagsponsor yung PAL?
(with decent results) at patuloy na ginagawa ng "Kung Ikaw ako" (with unbelievably corny and mediocre results, some eps rivalling the kacheapan of 'hokus pokus, next level na' --- a real low point in local tv programming.)
Rovilson is on a career high
RovEver since he and best buddy Sports Unlimited host Marc Nelson joined The Amazing Race Asia, 34-year-old Rovilson Fernandez has been definitely on a career high. Apart from being the newest endorser of Kenny Rogers, he also has a slew of projects lined up both here and abroad. "The blessings of the show have opened up a lot of doors of opportunities. We have a meeting with AXN in the next couple of weeks. They have a new network. They have some projects for us that we might be interested in," he shares. He even got offered to be part of a drama series in Vietnam, which he had to turn down. "I don't see myself going into acting. I'm enjoying what I do now," he stresses.
Aside from a busier schedule, Rovilson says that he’s still very much the regular Joe that he has always been. "The one thing the experience has changed probably is that I had to get better with my time management skills. Now I'm getting a lot more invitations to attend [events]. Before, I'd have all the time in the world. Now, I have to juggle. But I'm still a workaholic. I still do everything with a passion. I just love saying ‘yes’ to everything. I can't say no to people. Other than that, nothing's changed. I'm still the same Rovilson. I still commute, wait in line at fast food joints. I take taxis, the MRT, whenever. I put on a hat and shades and try to go incognito, but I think I still stand out (laughs)," he admits.
Even though they didn't emerge as the top winners (they placed second runner-up in the race), Rovilson has no regrets about the whole experience. "It was quite humbling. But we're glad that we did it. We knew that its possible, if you play it fair and work hard enough and you are actually in control of your own destiny. Luck does play a huge part, but you control your own luck as well," he says.
RovWhen asked who else he would race with if he could do it all again, it doesn't take long for him to answer. "I'd probably go with Ernie Lopez (The Amazing Race Asia Season 1 contestant), because I've raced with him before and I had the best time racing with Ernie. We've done adventure races together. I just have so much fun with him. We have the same mentality. And also probably Geoff Rodriguez, he's another one of my best mates. He auditioned for Season 3. He's just like us: he's a carbon copy of Marc basically, well as far as the humor is concerned. Lastly, it would basically be a Malaysian girl, only because, if you look at the history, the Malaysian teams in season 1, they won and here in season 2 they took 2nd and 4th place. Malaysian women are tough. They're fantastic and they're nice to look at," he says with a wink.
Speaking of Malaysian women, ABS-CBN Interactive asked Rovilson about his rumored relationship with fellow Amazing Race contender Vanessa Chong of Malaysia. "My love life is great. It's so funny. The love life is fine. I love my parents, my family. I love my friends. Things couldn't be happier. I will quote myself in my interview in MetroHim magazine, ’If there is one person in particular that I am interested in, I'm quite smitten over a girl in the race,’" he admits. Because of their obvious chemistry, Rovilson couldn't help but be attracted to her. "I found her to be attractive, more my style. She's a very pretty and athletic girl, a very physical girl. I like that she has a radiant smile, jet-black hair and is exotic looking. Personality wise, she's so bubbly. She has a great heart, you really see her heart and quite an emotional girl as well," he stresses.
Despite his past experience as a host for Lakbay TV and Gameplan, it was definitely the AXN exposure that has given him a more solid celebrity status. But this, Rovilson shrugs off as a non-factor. "It's just weird for me when people say we have fans. It’s so hard to embrace that you know. That you're a celeb or whatever. Even from my Gameplan days, I considered that as news-gathering. I never considered that showbiz or whatever. Even now I don't accept it or embrace it," he confides.
RovThe recent MetroHim magazine cover boy (alongside Marc Nelson) also ket himself busy as the host of iTalent star Philippines. "It's a wonderful thing to be a part of Asia's first online talent competition. It's hitting four countries: Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. You’re getting thousands of entries from each country and then they whittle it down to 20 per country, male and female. It literally is singing, dancing, rapping, cooking, beatboxing, dancing, swimming—whatever is a talent. Vanessa and Pamela [Chong] are the hosts for Malaysia. Kinar is the host for Indonesia. I'm representing the Philippines and Natasha [Monks] is the host for Singapore. So it's quite an honor. It really gave me a lot of exposure from a regional standpoint. I'm really, really excited and just happy to be a part of it. Needless to say, I hope our country will have the best talents," he explains.
Rovilson has also been the executive editor for Maxim Philippines for almost two years now. "In the end, my day job is still Maxim. I love it. Because Maxim is international as well," he says. When it comes to Maxim, Rovilson can't help but act like a proud parent. "It's truly an honor to be working for Maxim. I've been part of the Maxim project since we started talking about it in 2004. We've been trying to get it for so long and the best part about it is that I grew up to Maxim magazine. I had two subscriptions in the States. One in my house when I was still living at home and one in college. So I lived, breathed, and drank it. I am the Maxim brand. I lived the Maxim lifestyle and for it to come here, it's a wonderful magazine. I've learned a lot from it. For it to come here and empower men here, it's a wonderful thing. I love working with the staff. They're some of the most brilliant minds or lack of it. (laughs) But it’s always fun and we have an exciting time everyday," he says.
Being part of every issue from conceptualization to print as executive editor is a serious responsibility that Rovilson gives utmost priority to. "For future issues, expect the hottest girls; the funniest, wittiest articles; and groundbreaking features. But the best part of it is that since we’re tied up with ABS-CBN, we're multi-media. And that's what's most exciting. Basically the pages of Maxim come to life via TV, events, radio, you name it. We're gonna grab you, we're gonna pull you in, you can't escape the Maxim brand. Look out for it," he concludes.
Do you even watch Amazing Race? Alam mo ba kung gaano kahirap at kagastos nun?
May times kasi na nakakaantok ang Survivor. Critical yung casting for Survivor para maging successful yung season.
I picture TAR Phils. very different from the Original TAR or Asia's. They can inject Filipino ingenuity... medyo rough yung race. Like going to forests and mountains. Something like that. Kasi TAR has become very popular locally, so baka malaman ng mga civilians na TAR yun then tutulungan nila yung mga racers. So small towns yung destinations nila.
To make the production less expensive, yes, they can have sponsors. Try muna nila locally para may room for improvement and expansion.
