    TV memories...

in connection with this thread i had started sa music and radio forums...

(hep hep hep...mapa-kapuso man o kapamilya, BAWAL ANG AWAY, ha? peace tayong lahat, at least sa thread na 'to...ayos ba? )

    champoy, champoy,
    subukan 'nyo ang champoy
aba, 'di ba, ibang-iba ang lasa?
sa unang tikim, 'kala 'nyo'y matamis,
    biglang aalat, parang nang-iinis

    ang tao'y parang champoy...
mayro'ng payat, mayro'n ding parang bondat
matangkad ang nanay, anak ay maliit,
    magandang babae, boyfriend ay pangit
    champoy, champoy,
    ang tao'y parang champoy

    champoy, champoy,

ganyan talaga ang takbo ng mundo...

    yan nga yun, ka-campus sirloin!

Champoy was one of the forerunners of modern gag shows on Philippine television. kakaiba pa nga yan kasi talagang naka-tuxedo sina Subas Herrero (who, i think, is a very versatile actor as he can do roles ranging from Champoy gags to being an antagonist to FPJ) at Noel Trinidad tapos nandoon din sina Tessie Tomas (who, that time, had just left her position at McCann-Erickson Philippines to pursue her showbiz career), Gary Lising, Ronnie Lazaro, Mitch Valdez and Cherie Gil. may guest pa nga silang mga artista weekly.

i was quite lucky siguro to catch Champoy's original run during its last days on RPN. yung iba, sa replays ko na lang napanood.

    hi jenny!

That's Entertainment? oo naman. anong group ang paborito mo?

  8. #8
^ ako, tuesday group, lalo na no'ng time na magkakasama pa do'n sina mane, janno at billy (joe)...

another thing i loved about "champoy" was, kung gaano sila katindi sa pagpapatawa, gano'n din sila ka-seryoso sa mga musical numbers with their guest stars...based on the episodes i watched, it would usually be cherie gil (who sings very well, i must say), or subas and noel (na magagaling din kumanta) along with their guests...

one episode na talagang tumatak sa isip ko was when bert and martin nievera guested on the show. for one thing, sa "mr. boom-boom" segment, martin was still very "bulol" with his tagalog while attempting to sing the "mr. boom-boom" theme, pero "to the rescue" ang kanyang daddy bert, who sang the theme in a "ballad-ish" kind of way...

tapos may commercial spoof pa sila doon for that episode: gasoline mouthwash (a stab at listerine), with the sing-song slogan, "brush your breath, brush your breath, brush your breath with gasoline!"

ka-campus sirloin: ibang iba talaga sila sa Champoy that time. no holds barred ang mga gags nila. siguro if we are to compare their gags with the gags of modern gag shows like Bubble Gang, sasabihin natin na baduy yung sa Champoy but, still, Champoy was one of those who started all the gags on Philippine television.

ayan, another random thought....'yung unang line ng theme song ng dating "GMA supershow" ni kuya germs: "there's this feeling every sunday..."

"be-le-star" pa pronunciation ni kuya germs do'n. hehehe.

not only that...'yung sandamakmak pang mga babaeng co-host ni kuya germs noon...sharon cuneta, gretchen barretto, jackie lou, lani mercado, mariz, dawn zulueta, zsa zsa padilla, jam morales, rachel anne wolfe...and many more! noong last two or three years na lang 'ata ng "supershow" nagkaroon ng male co-hosts: john nite (na pamangkin ni kuya germs), richard reynoso, chad borja and the rainmakers...

Lovingly Yours, Helen... a virtual staple during Sunday afternoons right after GMA Supershow.

of course, Lovingly Yours will always be remembered with Helen Vela and its theme music, "Ballade Pour Adeline" by Richard Clyderman. things changed when Helen Vela died of colon cancer on February 14, 1992.

"Ballade Pour Adeline" sample on IMEEM:
