The Wealthiest Province I’ve Ever Set Foot.

    October 3, 2009. 3 a.m.

‘twas signal no. 1 in the Metro when we’ve flown from the NAIA’s Centennial Terminal 2 at “exactly” 4:45 a.m. via PAL’s Airbus 320 to Tagbilaran Airport. Though super typhoon Pepeng was quite far off, was still praying and hoping he would be so kind not to swell his fury to Bohol, one of my dream destinations, eversince (aside from Palawan & Batanes).

Little did I know, the glitzy sun and bright skies greeted us upon our safe landing at the Tagbilaran Airport. A goofy friend actually informed me a day before my departure that the Airport itself looks like a bus terminal station. But as for my judgment, it was actually not. It just needs a refurbishment, but it’s fun to look at as there’s a basketball court quite a few meters away from the runway.

Kuya Kevin, the driver/tour guide warmly welcomed us at the portal of the arrival area in the company of his gorgeous, white Toyota Vios. A native Boholano who’s been touring his visitors for quite some time now for a living. If I’d be going back to Bohol, I sure won’t have second thoughts hiring him again.

The country-side tour package includes the 12 tourist spots in the province. But as what I accustomed to, prior to hopping on every place I go, I do research first. I instructed Kuya Kevin not to drop us to some places not worth visiting “according” to vacationers and Boholanos themselves online (don’t get me wrong, please. I truly love the province, but to save time so we can enjoy the beach bumming in Panglao Island, we decided to skip some.)

Funny thing, Kuya Kevin failed to remember our preference and he dropped us off to the Blood Compact site, but we had a great time viewing the Panglao paradise from a far. I got damn excited that very morning. *wink*

A number of historical churches and sort of establishments dotted each street of the awe-inspiring province. Kuya Kevin was able to perfectly stand his feet as our instant History Professor that day, I must say.

    Aliens wharf: The Tarsier Sanctuary

As my awareness serves me right, the smallest primate can be found and endemic only in the Philippines and Indonesia, but an Indonesian tarsier is quite bigger than ours. (now I’m talkin) I had a bolt from the blue the very moment I’ve seen them in flesh! Big, round eyes, naked tail, and I was completely amazed when it rotated its head 180-degrees just to look at me! There were placards informing the tourists not to use flash of their cams when taking pictures and DON’T EVER TOUCH NOR HOLD THEM! But, we were able to get hold of them when we took pictures and it even sat on my shoulder right before our lenses! How? It’s a secret. Let me just leave you hanging there. Haha! *wink* Driving to our next destination, we then had a stopover at the man-made-forest and I must say, ‘twas so cool! Plentiful mahoganies towering around you were way, way too cool! Seems like I’m in a Scandinavian country. LOL!

A UNESCO World Heritage Site: Chocolate Hills

Finally, the long-dreamed event since I was in grade school came to happen. When the automated Vios dashed its wheels towards the hush town of Carmen, piece-by-piece in its elegance, we’ve seen the world renowned Chocolate Hills. We abruptly hopped off the Vios upon arriving and stormed up the 300+ steps to the viewing deck. And winning its top, my jaw dropped when the magnificent and breathtaking hills stood before my very eyes! Calmly, yet gracefully flaunting their picturesque silhouette to us. ‘twas a dream come true (for me), and just so you know, there are JUST ONLY 1,700+ hills there. Not bad, haha!

Greenest of them all: The Loboc River Cruise

We took pictures at the hanging bamboo bridge, firstly. And ‘twas the first ever hanging bridge that I got scared, honestly. Not because it was just merely made of bamboos, but the fact that when you happen to move, it seems that the entire bridge is going to hastily split or worse, turn up-side-down! Anyways, let’s not talk about my chicken-hearted moments! Haha! We’re completely starving, that’s why Kuya Kevin, without more ado, headed to the floating restaurant at the Loboc River where the tempting buffet was waiting. I would have to say that, that was the best sail I have ever experienced even just for an hour. Tranquillity of the green, clean water of the river, the lush vegetation, the undeniably fresh air and especially, the food, made the cruise a lifetime experience, plus the live band and a stopover halfway the river for an entertaining performance of the Boholanos especially the children of Loboc. (in that town, each household has a family member who truly knows how to play any sort of musical instruments and especially, to sing).

Let’s go tumble down: Hinagdanan Cave

Descending would be the only way to reach the Hinagdanan Cave of Dauis. 100+ years of their existence, yet the spectacular stalactites and stalagmites inside the dark, gloomy cave of Hinagdanan was completely preserved, but to my surprise, there weren’t any bats in there, too bad! Really bad, ‘coz I wanna see them flyin above me with their red-lighted eyes. The cave has a little lagoon where you can take a dip on its cold water, if you just want. Of course, I don’t want to, what’s the white sand beach of Panglao for?

A Total Secluded Paradise: Panglao Island

Finally, ‘twas 3 p.m. back then when we headed to the Bohol Diver’s Resort, a beach-front resort sited along the famed Alona Beach where we’ll be staying. I knew then that the resort is elevated, so to my excitement to see the beach from above, I almost forgot to pick-up my luggage in the car. And from above, summer breeze with the dancing coconut trees acknowledged my arrival. I’ve then finally seen the white sand and crystal blue waters of the eminent Panglao Island. Unlike the world’s famous Boracay in Aklan and the nearest famed beach in Manila, the Puerto Galera, Panglao isn’t cramped with vacationers and especially, not too commercialized as compared to those. So if you want to go beach bumming, yet laidback escape from the urban life, hop on here! The resort is really recommendable may it be to locals or foreign ones, budget or luxurious travellers. It has two big swimming pools overlooking the white sand beach, a spacious restaurant serving loads of cuisine, again, overlooking the crystal-blue sea! At night, if you want to have a drink by the beach, they have their cozy U-Bar and I must really say, “PANALO ang live band dito!” The band performed a lot of my fave ones, such, Insomnia by Craig David, Forever by Chris Brown, Closer by Ne-yo, even the Nobody craze by Wonder Girls (did I just say it’s one of my fave? Nah!) and a lot more.

For now, let the photos just speak about the stay there.

My next month’s stop, Shangri-la Mactan, Cebu. (Nov. 5-7)

    *wink*

We will be there on Nov. 27-30 and we will stay at Bohol Bee Farm.

Hi guys…I’ve been lurking on this thread for quite sometime, and the positive reviews I have read about Bohol on this thread is quite convincing. Pa help naman po.

My mom is having her 50th bday soon…and I want to give her something special as a gift, and a trip/tour to Bohol seems perfect. Maraming first to (first out of town trip na kaming 3 lang, first ride nila sa plane if ever). It would be me, my Mom and my brother for that particular trip. Ask ko lang for suggestions sa itinerary and place kung san kami mag stay. Honestly, we’re really on a tight budget (around 20-22k for the three of us, including airfare, so around 15k na lang for board and lodging) and we plan to stay there for 3D/2N, probably on Dec5-Dec7 (Sat-Mon).

Many Thanks. Mag back read na rin ako to see if I could find quotes on prices and stuff. Salamat po.

sarap sa bohol!!! we were there last weekend lang. our tour guide was RJ. very accomodating person... two thumbsup for his services.

we started our country side tour at about 10am and was at dumaluan by 730pm. custom tour kami, i removed some of the "boring" sites stated here. will upload pictures as soon as i have them ready. weather in bohol is perfect!

sa mga nagtatanong kung ok naman sa dumaluan, IMHO.. ok naman sila. ordering was no longer 30minutes ahead, mga 15minutes na lang. hehehe. staff are ok naman.. majority that is. but none the less, dont let them ruin your vacation lang.

cost... we spent about 20k++ for the two of us. medyo maluho kasi kami sa food and naging pricey *** balicasag tour namin. pero all worth it!

We just got back from our 5-day vacation in Bohol! I have to say na sobrang sulit talaga ang pag gastos para sa Bohol trip namin!

I would like to recommend Tatsky for those who are still looking for a Countryside Tour contact. Grabe ang passion ni Tatsky for his customers, alagang-alaga talaga kami!

Try ko i-post ang itinerary and budget namin next time..

My smart no. was lost today.. very sad..

    Hello pexers,

Very sad ako kanina while nagtour kasi nawala ang smart no. ko. I remember nagtext pa ako sa sinundo ko, then our 1st stop is Baclayon church wala na cellphone ko. But wala akong reply na natanggap. I called up, nagring but ilang seconds nawala na. All my book start bukas until Feb 11, 2010, wala akong kontak sa kanila. Buti may isang no. pa ako, but dun kasi sa smart halos lahat magkontak sa akin. Ito po sun no. ko 0922-367-1051. Hope makontak niyo ako.. Thank you po..

    Kuya Tatsky
