What about through the "piss slit" of the penis? Isn't that enough opening?

    Post AIDS/HIV questions

    Doc Ira,

    (1) Pls. settle once and for all whether hiv can be transmitted through oral sex especially when the girl swallows the guy's semen or the guy licks the girl's lubrication fluid?

    (2) I know using a condom will protect a guy/girl from hiv transmission but how about engaging in multiple sexual intercourse (with the same partner as in "maraming rounds" of sex).

    (3) Is there a risk of pregnancy when the couple engage in multiple sexual intercoursesame definition above) despite the usage of condom by the guy?

As far as sex goes, oral sex seems to be one of the lower risk activities with regard to HIV transmission. It is not free of risk, however, since there are a number of cases attributable to oral sex alone. A number of co-factors, such as mouth disease, cuts and sores, ejaculating into the mouth, or infection with an STD, increase the likelihood of oral HIV transmission. Swallowing semen slightly increases the risk of transmission compared to just cunnilingus and fellatio alone. Abstinence is still the best way to prevent transmission.

You just change the condom "per round".

    (3) Is there a risk of pregnancy when the couple engage in multiple sexual intercoursesame definition above) despite the usage of condom by the guy?

    Ty
The risk is almost nil if the condom is used properly.

what about gonnorhea? pano naco contract yun? kailangan din ba ng open wound such as HIV/AIDS? Kasi diba yung "piss slit" ang affected dun once infected?

  6. #26

    Post

Gonorrhea is a type of bacterial infection (unlike AIDS, which is viral) and doesn't need an open wound to enter your system. All it needs is sexual contact with an infected partner.

    Post

ah ok.. mali pa pala spelling ko sa gonorrhea hehehe

so gonorrhea is bacterial , while HIV is viral

eh for example, a guy had unprotected sex with a girl who is HIV positive and has gonorrhea... is it possible that the guy contract gonorrhea without contracting HIV? assuming there's no open wound?

Another question Doc. How about other natural openings in the body? For example, the eyes, could hiv pass through such openings?

  9. #29

    Post

    sonn: Yes.

People, natural openings are not automatically open wounds, whether they occur in the eyes, ears, penis, whatever.

    hello doc. here's my situatuation.

i cut/trimmed my nails and isn't it sometimes nasusugatan yung skin beneath/underneath the nails (distal groove i think) so that's what happened sa isa kong fingernail. and then hours passed by, my boyfriend came to my house and we did some naughty stuffs. anyway, i ended giving him a hand job and what happened is that some of his pre-cum came in contact with my fingernails and as i've said, one has a sugat underneath the nail. maliit lang naman yung sugat, parang dot lang and it's not bleeding naman kase hours has passed na since i cut my nails and actually this is not the bleeding type of sugat naman in the first place, this always happened naman everytime i cut my nails, like one or two of my fingernails ay nagkaka-ganito. yung tipong stingy yung sugat/nails ko everytime i washed it with soap & water.

i have a feeling that my boyfriend has been fooling around. so just in case he's infected (knock on wood) do you think his pre-cum could infect my sugat sa nail as describe above? ty.

got a question doc ira...pardon for the wordings...

man used a condom having sex with an HIV positive girl...when about to come, withdrew then remove condom and come...

Q1: will he get infection by touching his penis just after intercourse (if he accidentally touch girls vagina)...

Q2: went to the doctor and found no STD after a week (after taking antibiotic)...is it still possible to contact HIV even after testing negative for STD...

If its by sexual intercourse, does STD and HIV goes together...

  15. #35
A man will increase his chances of contracting HIV if there is a small cut on the skin (whether abrasion, laceration, etc.) which comes in contact with the bodily fluids of an HIV-positive. That doesn't automatically mean that transmission happens 100% of the time.

HIV is not cured by antibiotics, since it's viral. And testing negative 6 months after contact is the only way to say for sure that you're HIV-negative. HIV is a type of sexually transmitted disease, which include (but aren't limited to) chlamydia, syphillis, gonorrhea, etc. You may have one disease but may not have the other.

Post AIDS vaccine could be available by 2005 IF. . .

Early results from Phase III trials of a preventive AIDS vaccine will not be available until early next year but its California-based developer VaxGen Inc said it was optimistic it would work.

"I think we will get protection (from the virus) but I don't know what level we will get," Donald Francis, president and co-founder of the company, told an AIDS conference.

Francis admitted he did not have any early clues about the results but he said the vaccine uses a standard approach and it worked in chimpanzees, so he believes it will be effective in humans.

"We expect to see in humans what we have seen in animal studies," he said. "If all goes well it could be available by end or 2004 or early 2005."

Hopes for AIDS vaccines have been dashed in the past and the charity ActionAid, which welcomed the news, advised a cautionary approach. "This is potentially great news. But it is far too early to celebrate," said Omo Igogho, the head of health programs in Nigeria for ActionAID.

VaxGen's AIDS vaccine works by inducing the immune system to produce antibodies that attach to the gp120 protein on the surface of the virus. The theory is that by preventing the virus from attaching to the cells it will stop infection.

Francis said VaxGen was committed to tiered pricing, which would make it affordable for poor countries, and is also beefing up its manufacturing capabilities to produce it in bulk quickly.

The impact of the vaccine in protecting high-risk people from sexual transmission of HIV is being tested on 5,400 volunteers in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the Netherlands.

A similar trial in Thailand, involving 2,500 injecting drug users, will determine if it can prevent blood-borne transmission. All of the volunteers, who were given the vaccine or a placebo, were free of the virus at the start of the study and counseled about safe sex.

The efficacy rate will be determined by comparing the number of infections in the placebo group with infections in people who received the vaccine.

There are five major subtypes of HIV in different areas of the world. In Thailand there is just one subtype but Africa has many so VaxGen is working on vaccines to induce antibodies against several subtypes of HIV.

Other vaccines, both preventive and therapeutic, are being discussed at the 14th International AIDS Conference in Barcelona but progress has been slow.

Pharmaceutical companies can make more money making drugs to treat disease, than vaccines to prevent them.

"We don't value prevention," said Francis.

    HIV Statistics in the Philippines?

Does anyone know what is the ratio of people who are HIV possitive against people who are HIV negative here in the Philippines? Also does anyone know what are the chances that a person would get aids in here (assuming he's sexually active)?

One more thing. If a girl with AIDS gives a guy a blow, does the guy get infected?

  18. #38
You can most probably get the stats at the Department of Health. They're the ones handling the inpatient and outpatient HIV cases nationwide.

While saliva may contain HIV, it only has the virus in very minute amounts. The chances of transmission to someone who doesn't have a wound/cut/nick on the penis is really small.
