Conclusive na yan. You're worrying too much baka magka-GAD(Generalized Anxiety Disorder) ka niyan. Dun sa 11 weeks and 2 days na test mo considered na conclusive na rin eh. Move on. ^ ^

that's why you have more reason to get tested. trust me, i know because i have experienced the anxiety. mas mahirap ang mabuhay in uncertainty and speculation than to get tested for a conclusive result.

yes, Worriedman, safe ka na. more than 90% of people who have HIV test positive by 12 weeks. it is rare for a person to fail to get a conclusive result after 3 months. please move on.

It is well established fact that in the issue of HIV, mental stresses are an issue as important as the disease itself. Fear, anxiety and depression are so common. Fear inhibits getting tested. Anxiety grips a person to the point that his/her normal sexual life is affected. Depression hits those that are affected by the virus despite the fact that HIV is now a manageable disease.

HIV actually affects a small segment of the population but psychological stresses causing paranoia (and homophobia), anxiety and depression affect a great segment of the population.

Let us treat the psychological component of this issue with education and knowledge sharing.

You are welcome to ask your questions on the disease and on what you are feeling in this thread.

you are negative for the December, 2011 encounter. i think i do not need to elaborate on this. five months na yun from December to May. you are conclusively negative for HIV from that encounter.

however, let us address some concerns that i took note of while reading your post.

    1. you are very concerned with the symptoms that you have experienced in the past months. please note that HIV symptoms are non-specific. ibig sabihin, hindi sila distinct but rather can be found in other medical conditions. yung sore throat, cough, and cold mo in May are not connected sa HIV since you turned out non-reactive in May. five months na yun - plenty of time beyond the usual window period. you are non-reactive. please move on from that December sexual encounter.

    2. your other symptoms may be from other conditions. swollen lymph nodes may come from different conditions. do not diagnose yourself.

    3. nakipagtalik ka nung April 23 - bagamat non-reactive ka sa test mo nung May para sa sex mo nung December, nalagay mo na naman ang sarili mo sa risk when you had sex with your boyfriend without protection. the test in May does not cover the April sex. yung December lang. you need to get tested again three months after the last sexual encounter. and the fact that you were concerned more about getting him infected rather than him infecting you is quite bothersome. i know i am not in the position to meddle with your love life, but it concerns me that after suffering a great deal of anxiety, you repeated the act with your boyfriend. please be safe. you may love him, i know, but it does not mean you will put yourself at risk. mabuti sana kung alam mo ang history nya and you have proof that he is negative for HIV. but if you have nothing but his words (or if you do not have those), i advise you to practice safe sex or better yet abstain for three months until both of you can get tested together. the sex happened on April 23. abstain for now and get tested again on July 23. honestly, it is the only way you can be sure of your status, especially now that you have put yourself at risk nung April.

sorry for the late response. been quite busy these past few days.

women carry a higher chance of getting infected than men through vaginal sex. it is very hard to quantify but let's just say it's quite high-risk to have vaginal sex without protection. but as i said, lampas three months ka na kaya safe ka na. you don't need another test for the December encounter. do get a test, however, for that April sex you had with your current boyfriend. i believe it's not enough that he assured you that you are his first sexual partner. and besides, it's not only HIV that you get from sex but also Hepa and Syphilis. so do get tested. RITM offers testing for free. their number/s are: (632) 809-7599 / 807-2628 to 32. also, you may try the various social hygiene clinics in manila, makati, and quezon city (whichever is most convenient for you). take care!

sure, you can get tested at RITM in July for the May encounter. as for the blisters, it is hard to say if they are herpes. there may be signs that indicate it but again, only an actual test can verify it especially since herpes has two strains.

anyway, if it's oral herpes, chances are it's caused by the herpes simplex virus 1. it's usually acquired during childhood and a large portion of the adult population already has it. not much to worry about since it is typically not sexually transmitted (often contracted through casual contact; i.e. social kiss, pinches, sharing of utensils) and is often just a minor nuisance. so just have a doctor see it so that you can get a more definitive diagnosis. hope this helps.

My best wishes. Long-term studies on HIV point out to the conclusion that you will have a normal life span. Side effects of medication will be a challenge from to time, but even those are becoming better as new meds as well as emerging ones have much lesser side effects. Of course, be hopeful that a cure will be found. There are significant progress in thia.

Starting medication implies that you are committed to ensure that you are able to comply to the medical regimen, notwithstanding your budget or mood. Interrupting medication risks the growth of resistant strains. Also, it is best if you have a regular HIV doctor when you are back in Davao. HIV doctors have more experience adjusting medications when needed or treating side effects.

Salamat! I'm not planning to go back to Davao anymore. I'm not sure how that will work out, but my boss has agreed to me reporting to our Manila office for the meantime until they can find a position for me to fill. I'm lucky that people at work have been supportive, even though they didn't have to be.

As your handle implies, your biggest challenge is not HIV but anxiety. None of your symptoms means HIV. There is no way to know from the symptoms that a person has HIV. When a person is infected with HIV, there is a stage called primary HIV infection at 2-4 weeks following the initial exposure to the virus. The symptoms of primary HIV infection (technically called as ARS -- Acute Retroviral Syndrome) are flu-like. It is described as the "worst flu one ever gets". This is when the body tries to react to the virus. The viral load at this time is very high and the virus itself can be measured in tests, although the normal ELISA tests will not yet turn positive at this time. This stage will last about a month. So, if you have a severe flu after a few weeks after an exposure, you should mention to your doctor that you may want to be tested for HIV. Please note that a different test is done in this case.

However -- and this is important -- for some people this primary stage does not even have any symptom or is only very mild. So, not all who are infected by HIV will have symptoms at this stage.

The primary or acute phase is followed by a latency or chronic phase. This is when the virus remains present but is less active. This stage is also without symptom (Remember that in HIV, only the terminal phase -- AIDS -- have clear symptoms.) This stage starts at around the third month and follows a seroconversion when your body produced the antibodies. It is the antibodies that are important in ELISA tests. That is why when the ELISA test is done before seroconversion, it could give a "false negative" as the test will not pick up the antibodies yet. In very rare case, it takes about six months before seroconversion to occur. That is why for the super-worried and wants to given "peace of mind", a follow-up test after the sixth month would reconfirm a negative result.

People who think they were infected will enter a state of extreme anxiety and many diseases such as rashes, tiredness, etc. will emerge due to stress, thus feeding more stress, and on and on in an ever increasing anxiety spiral. The only solution is spend P600 and have a test pronto.

thank you for that ateo...yeah anxiety almost ruined me.i cant help myself but to think i might have HIV because symptoms of it happened to me for the last couple of months...uti,rashes,cold,cough,loose bowel movement every morning for 3 days, tiredness, blisters, lymph nodes..im still not convince with the result of my HIV test done at muntinlupa med center.EIA test?if i am not mistaken..
so i have to take another test just to make sure and other STD test...im sorry and thank you guys
