the only way to tell if you are infected is to get tested. hintay ka lang ng at least three months, then patest ka for HIV para conclusive ang result. it's a good thing that used a condom as it minimizes the risk. but still, a risk is a risk however small. so just get tested.

And i need your help/advices with my problem. To start things, i am a nurse currently working sa isang hospital sa manila,1 year and 4 months na din ako nagwowork... And i got thru an accident with my HIV positive patient... Actually needle stick injury yung nangyari...

The accident happened kahapon ng midnight around 1am... Nagwawala kasi *** patient that time and aksidente nyang nabunot yung nakasire drip sa kanya na Kabiven... So nung nagpunta ako sa room to get the line fixed, i was wearing gloves that time, nung aabutin ko na yung needle dun sa patient he accidentally bent the line and it pricked me sa right thumb ko.. Yun *** story nung accident ko so i immediately reported it sa doctor and asked me to go thru certain tests.. Nagpunta ako ng PGH to be counseled and assessed there... But still i have to take prophylaxis for it daw and blood test na din...nagprescribe sila ng lopinavir+ritonavir 2tabs once a day and lamivudine/zidovudine 1tab/day..tpos pinarapid tedt din ako and baseline blood tests...sabi din nila dapat yung gamot eh same time everyday ang inuman..

So whether positive/negative ang result i should wait for that 1 month to be tested agad?

I need your advices guys, nasa stage ako ng depression ngayon... I dont know kung paano ako makakacope up with this or makakapagwork effectively.. Thanks guys sa help...

hello there Nursebombpo. first, i am sorry to hear you are depressed right now but i guess that is part of the stress when such injuries happen. now, moving on with your questions...

    a. rapid testing is reliable. kaya hindi pa reliable yan sa iyo for now is because you haven't yet completed the window period. although reliable ang testing tool, yung mismong status mo ang hindi pa conclusive since your body has not yet produced antibodies. so just wait for the window period to complete (3 months at the minimum) before you can say that the result is conclusive.

    b. regarding your meds, i am not sure why they decided to discontinue it and i am not sure if receiving the initial dose has any effect. better ask a specialist on this one.

    c. finally, you cannot have sexual contact hanggat hindi naconfirm because sex is another mode of transmission for the virus. if you have sex and your partner's status is unknown, you will not only put yourself at risk but may also disrupt the process of determining whether you will test positive or negative after the needle stick injury. so for now, ang focus is on the injury as the MOT. sex will only compound your problem.

i hope this helps. and oh, maliit lang talaga ang possibility of contracting through needle stick. but still, it's good that you reported it. hoping for the best. take care!

it's safe. the materials they use are disposable (lancet, syringe, test kits).
