^ no, unless they require you and you give them your consent. so far wala pako nalalaman na nagrerequire ng HIV test for local employment, that would be discrimination if mag se screen sila, tapos, idedeny nila ng employment? sa pag abroad lang alam ko may HIV test.

dun sa 3000+ na HIV+, may ginagawa ba ang government or department of health para ma-monitor sila in any way para di mag-spread yung AIDS? kasi I think it's not sufficient that they keep a list of HIV+ people. what does that do?

    thanks dyingyoung for sharing...

^ the govt. should sponsor their medications pero sa sobrang mahal at sa dami na ng problema ng Pinas, medyo mauunawaan natin na di yan ang priority ng gobyerno. at least the govt. should get them sponsors.

pero there's no way for the govt. to monitor their activities, that's human rights violation. yung taong di pa infected ang may oblogasyong protektahan ang sarili nya.

    HIV tests on going abroad?

    Question lang po.

If lalabas ka ba ng bansa for work abroad., is HIV test part of the medical exam? Is it required for processing passports, or papers?

just asking... thanks for the help.

Yes I believe this is being done in most locations. Di kelangan sa pagkuha ng passport ang HIV test, pero kelangan yan sa pag issue ng visa.

I've had one before leaving Pinas.

    Buti na lang, negative

I'm back. Kamusta na po kayo? FYI, I am living with HIV for 3 years now. I was diagnosed positive of HIV March 2006.

I am still NOT on HIV medications. I look fine, healthy and good looking. Hehe! I just had my blood test lately and my immune system is doing fine. My CD4/T4 cells are up again and my viral down was lower as compared to the previous test 4months ago.

Hindi po requirements ang HIV test for VISA Application unless you are are seeking for IMMIGRANT or WORKING VISA. There are some countries though that don't require HIV Test for Working VISA like Thailand.

What do you mean? Are you trying to say that they are spreading the virus? According to some studies, most people who are diagnosed with HIV have the tendency to change behavior, especially when they go through proper education/counseling. This is different to those who received NEGATIVE HIV Test results and one reason that I can see is the role of post-test counseling.

The 3,000+ Filipinos living with HIV are normal people just anyone else. They are EVERY WHERE. They can be your friend, classmate, neighbor, colleagues, office mates, boss, significant others, etc. I know a lot of Filipinos living with HIV and most of them are very productive in our society.

The problem with the SPREAD of HIV is among those who are NOT AWARE of their STATUS and keep on engaging in UNPROTECTED SEX.

Lately, we have an increasing number of HIV infection among young people and men who have sex with men (MSM). The sad part is, the infection has now reached among the general population.

I've been working on AIDS for the past 3 years and I've seen and heard a lot of stories from people whose been infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.

Usually, HIV Test is part of the medical exam (95%) for those who are seeking employment abroad. This depends on the requirements of the receiving country. Middle east countries are very strict with HIV status. They deport aliens who are found to be HIV+, a violation of human rights but that's how it works this time.

Civil societies, NGOs, advocates and activists for AIDS are all working to eliminate travel restriction based on HIV status. But better keep yourself SAFE and STAY NEGATIVE.

1/3 of the reported HIV cases in the Philippines are RETURNING Overseas Filipino Workers (documented and undocumented) so guys, wherever you go for work, please take EXTRA PRECAUTION no matter what the circumstances are.

Good luck and God bless to all!

FYI, the Social Hygiene Clinic of the Manila Health Department located in Sta. Cruz, manila is offering FREE HIV TEST. Please call them for appointment at 711-6942, look for Malou Tan or Diane Mendoza. The FREE Test is funded by the Global Funds, UNICEF/United Nations, and other donors. Likewise, they have services for other Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs), call them for details.

Oo, unless it's a training/temporary work and you'd go under a tourist visa. Pero if you'd be processed under the working or immigrant, they'd require you, kahit di ng empoyer mo, kasi POEA ang hihingi nun. Ganun samin, kahit sinabi namin di naman hinihingi ng employer namin ang HIV test, di ka nila bibigyan nung parang permit para makaalis pag di ka nagpamedical with HIV test.

I don't think there has been a reported case of infection through parlors/barbershop. Most HIV infected persons know how they'd likely got the virus and could trace its probable source and none have ever pointed through a barber/parlor incident. So far as I know.

Even theoretically, it is unlikely, becasue the virus in small amount of blood outside the body would not survive when exposed to the environment considering also from the time it had cut an HIV+ person, to the time that it was used on and had cut you as well.

If this is the case, dahil lahat tayo halos every month or every other month nagpapagupit, dapat lahat tayo may HIV na.

So it is unlikely to be infected that way.

Isn't shared needles (with HIV) = shared razors/labaha?

Shared blades, as long as nilinis at walang bahid ng dugo after use, are ok. The problem with shared needles is that tiny droplets of blood remain inside the needle after use, which is why you have to dispose them.

nope they can't be equated. the level of infectiousness differs highly between the two. madaming factors, why needle sharing is one of the most risky means of acquiring an infection with HIV.

Una, blood vessel to blood vessel ang route of transmission, then yung repetitive act of sharing ng needle, plus the short amount of time in between the use of the needle.

and I used the word "unlikely" as precaution regarding transmission through blade use in parlor/barbershops given the circumstances, it is unlikely but it is not impossible as well.

So if you're worried about it, bring your own blade or request for a new blade from your barber or parlor, anyway you paid for it, obligation nilang palitan yung blade na gamit nila kada client, since there are other even more potential infections ang pwedeng maipasa through blade use like Hepatitis.

I am glad to announce that the Social Hygiene Clinic of Manila Health Department is once again offering FREE HIV RAPID Test.

There are 150 RAPID TEST KITS available for those who are interested to get tested for HIV. The free test is available on March 30 and 31 (Monday and Tuesday) on a first come first serve basis.

The Clinic is located at 208 Quiricada Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila (across the street from the main gate of San Lazaro Hospital). Facing the building, you enter the gate at the right side and proceed to the 2nd floor.

Quiricada Street is between the stations of LRT Bambang and LRT Tayuman.

Look for Dra. Diane Mendoza or Malou Tan (the nurse). Tell them that you were referred by dyingYOUNG. You may call them at 711-6942 but please REMEMBER that the RAPID TEST is available only on the 2 dates mentioned above.

Other form of FREE HIV Test (NOT RAPID TEST) takes more than a week to get the result.

    Good luck and Happy Summer!

    Cheers,
    dyingYOUNG, RN
