I started watching basketball at the tender age of 3. My parents were rabid Crispa fans and we would watch consistently on TV. My first live game was a Crispa-Toyota match in Araneta at the age of 4. I was in heaven.

    1996 sa cuneta astrodome.

I could still remember the date: Feb. 11, 2005. Game 6 of All Filipino finals between Ginebra and Talk n Text. Sobrang memorable nun kasi first time kong manuod nang live tapos nagchampion pa Ginebra. Menk had a monster game with 39pts and 19rebs, which was capped by a long three-pointer in the dying seconds of the game. :-)

My first time was back in the early 80s accompanying my dad at at Ultra. Did not remember who was playing. I wasn't big fan back then. i only liked Toyota.

    Off topic;

I don't know where to post this question but i need a little help from veteran fans here.

Its this ex PBA player I usually see at Twin Hearts church. He's real famous during his heyday, maybe 6'4", around 55 years. Who's this guy??

I can't just take a pic from my cell. And its too embarassing to ask his name! But I definitely know this guy.

Or, where can I find photos of former PBA cagers on the net? Like a yearbook or something? Wala sa PBA site eh. Thanks Thanks!

The good news is that you can find photos of former PBA players in the old PBA Annual magazines. The bad news is it is unlikely that the PBA has a complete set of PBA annuals.

^ Thanks. Where to find those mags will be ... y'know.

BTW, he never changed. Same curly hair, same thick stache. I'll try try to snap a shot of this guy next time I see him.

Some possible names that would fit the bill for the said guy. He's 6'4, around 55 years old, curly hair, thick moustache...hmmm:

    1. Nic Bulaong - Toyota
    2. Jerry Samlani - U/Tex
    3. Jack Chua - 7/Up / Filmanbank
    4. Tony Dasalla - U/Tex / SMB (although I believe Tony is based in the US)
    5. Red Vicente - Honda / Galerie Dominique

Ako, merong collection ng PBA annuals from 1985 to 1990. Kaso lahat, nasira ng baha ni Ondoy three years ago. Sayang.

Mine was the debut game of David Thirdkill for Tanduay(a big fan here) against Great Taste in the opening conference of 1987 season. GT led by 16 points with 4 mins remaining until a barrage of 3 points came in from Generalao, Dela Cruz, Israel and i forgot the other one. off course the winning basket came from Thirdkil who just arrived hours earlier before tip off.

I was thinking Glenn Capacio..but no. I know Glenn. Sonny Cabatu? No..

This guy retired in the early 90s when he was pushing 40. He peaked in the 80s.

Nice list though Jay. Haven't heard the name "nick bulaong" in a very long time. Matanda na pala tayo Jay!

  20. #120
Ikaw lang, Mrmagalang. Wag mo ko idamay!

Kidding aside, there's another Capacio who would fit that bill. Ely Capacio, otherwise known as "Father" during his Tanduay days because of his spiritual commitment, is Glenn's elder brother and is part of the HR Group of the Purefoods corporate office. He's 6'5, peaked in the 80's as a lead center for Tanduay up to 1984, backstopped Ramon Fernandez when the latter joined the Rhum Makers in 1985, and formally retired with Purefoods.
