andyan ka sa ULTRA din, I was there too, anong laban sa eliminations, yun una panalo Purefoods, best player of the game si Fernandez o pangalawa, panalo Ginebra, best player of the game si Jaworski.

ang hirap talaga noon sa pagkuha ng tickets, to refresh me memories, una laban ng Purefoods and Ginebra, I was sitting at ringside at sa start ng laro kumakalabog na ang ULTRA sa ingay ng crowd saka ang Purefoods bands, sobra exciting, padjyak ng padjyak mga kahelera ko sa ringside seats eh made in wood kaya its rocking sa venue.

Before the Ginebra players made their entry, sumayaw pa Ginebra Super Angels, di ko lang maalala what happen when the game was halted somewhere in the 4th, lamang Ginebra 92-90 when I look at the Scoreboard and the Ginebra Gallery crowd made loud noise of chants GI-NE-BRA!, GI-NE-BRA!, In the end Purefoods fans ang masaya, winning the ballgame.

    Remember when..

I was born and raised in Davao City so naturally that is where I witnessed my first ever live PBA game. I believe this was in 1993, the game was between Shell and Ginebra during the third conference.

Abet Guidaben, a distant relative of my mom, gave me and my dad tickets to the game. We got our tickets at Evergreen Hotel, where the players were housed.

Anyway, the game was held at a jampacked RMC Gym. In those days, especially in the provinces, court standards were not strictly implemented so you could see people clinging behind the backboard and fans sitting so close to the baseline and sideline of the playing court. Everybody was standing up all throughout the game and practically every fan was cheering for Ginebra to my dismay (I was a Shell fan back then, hehe). Ginebra won the game but I forgot the final score. I also forgot the names of the imports for the two sides. Shell was led by Paras, Magsanoc and Guidaben. Of course, Jawo was the heart and soul of the Gin Kings back then.

BTW, this is a nice thread because it reminds me of father-son and family bonding back in those days. Most of us here were taken by our dads to live basketball games before.

March 1996 - The very first out-of-town PBA game held in our city. Prime Vergel Meneses versus the Grandslam Alaska squad. The Aerial Voyager really amazed the 15-year-old kid in me.

1994 o 1995 yata yun. Kung di ko nagkakamali Pepsi vs Shell yata napanood ko sa Cuneta. HS pa lang ko non. Inaya lang ko ng classmate ko.

After non hindi na naulit until 2003 nung nanood ko sa Makati Coliseum. Coke vs RedBull. Inaya lang naman ko ng officemate ko.

Yung talagang 1st time ko watch on my own at 1st time ko rin watch ng fave team ko na BGK, nung 2003. BGK vs San Miguel sa Ultra. Magkakasama pa sa BGK non si Menk, Limpot at rookie Adducul. Since then madalas na ko watch ng BGK game live basta may free time.

Actually, the first seven footer to play in the PBA was back in 1977 featuring the caucasian 7'0 Steve Stroud. He played alongside the 6'7 Chris MacMurray for the 7/UP Uncolas in the Open Conference of the said year, in tandem with the firebrand called Danny Florencio. Florencio went on to win topscoring honors for that season, averaging 32.3 points per game, the highest scoring average by a local in PBA history.

In 1976, U/Tex paraded the goateed Dan Knight (+) who stood an inch shorter than 7 feet. But because of his afro hairdo, Knight stood almost like 7'1 although he was listed at 6'11. Knight was paired with a caucasian import, the 6'6 Lee Haven in the 1976 Open Conference for the Weavers.

Lewis Brown, who actually first played for the Great Taste Discoverers in the 1980 or 1981 Open Conference, also suited up for Crispa in the 1982 Open before his last stint with Manila Beer in 1985. Brown though was listed at 6'11 and not 7 feet tall.

Other seven footers to my recollection were Earl Barron for Red Bull and a certain Johns for Coca-Cola.
I have to make the necessary correction with this post made 4 years back. The very first seven footer to ever play in the PBA was Nate Stephens, the reinforcement of the Carrier Weathermakers in the 1975 pioneer season. He stood 7'0 tall.

The first name of the Coca-Cola Tiger import who played sometime in the mid-2000s was Darrel.

First time ko manood, I think first game Alaska vs Shell, then main attraction is Ginebra vs Pop Cola. Alaska and Ginebra won their respective contests. I think it was 97 or 98 Commissioner's Cup. The last game so far,was 2010 Commissioner's din but it was a quarterfinals matchup between BMeg and ROS then Alaska vs Ginebra,my first courtside seat, ang lapit ko sobra kay Lia Cruz, kaso turnoff yung maugat na feet nya. Then in the 2nd game, Patricia Hizon, oh my, hot momma. Sana makanood ako this sunday, final games ng elimination round,

Nakalimutan ko na yung taon bata pa kasi ako nun, parang mga 1999 or 2000 ata yun. Mobiline versus SMB, sa Upper Box A ako unang nakanood kung di ako nagkakamali. May grills pa yung sa Upper Box B ng Araneta nun tama ba? Tapos yung mga division ng bawat level pwede pa tungtungan kaya tuwing time outs or quarter breaks may mga nagsasayawang bakla sa ibabaw.

It's okay! It's alright! Go Racela! Fight Fight Fight!

Ang coach pa ng Shell nuon ay si Joe Lipa and he had a very promising rookie point guard named Ronnie Magsanoc. Magsanoc was still a rookie and yet, he had more playing time than 1985 Rookie of the Year awardee Leo Austria.
