    Wink twilight or epidural?

im now 8 1/2 months pregnant. i had my check up this morning and my OB told me that i can give birth anytime after january 1.
I was kinda scared going through the pain again (YUP! this is my 2nd time)
Twilight birth po kase ako nung first child ko... meaning it was very painful.... no anethesia or whatsoever to relieve the pain.

pls help me decide... my doctor gave me two weeks to think about it.... thanks in advance and ADVANCE MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Sa first baby ko epidural and then don sa second twilight.

I thought ang twilight, may drugs na kasama like morphine?
Anyway, personally I'd go for as little drugs as possible (kung puede wala) when giving birth.

Okay sa akin yung epidural kasi nakita kong lumabas yung baby ko at very conscious ako nun (unlike dun sa una) but i've experienced back pains a few days after birth na nawala rin days after.

  6. #6
mag epidural ka you won't feel any pain best friend talaga yan nga mga babaeng naglalabor.

what's the difference between twilight and epidural???

I actually havent heard about twilight kase epidural lang ang option when I had my baby...

I had epidural... 15 hours of labor!!! 2 hours of pushing! OMG!

ako din epidural they didnt offer that twilight. 24 hours of labor then biglang emergency CS. hindi bumababa ang baby sobrang laki 9.13lbs.

i asked for epidural when i was about 6cm dilated, usapan kasi namin ng ob ko na if hindi ko na talaga kinaya *** pain, ill have epid. and tiniis ko na nakabaluktot and hindi gumagalaw with the strongest of contractions while being injected with it. after 10 to 15 mins, no pain na ****. my ob and the other doctors and nurses said na ang galing ko raw umire hehe, kaya mabilis lang nailabas si baby. the problem daw kasi usually with epidural is because ur sensations are numb na, u will find it difficult to push as much as when ure really experiencing the pain. happy ako with epid since i was conscious all the way, from the time i was rolled from the delivery room to the recovery room to my room

My advice, take the drugs. The pain is simply outrageous. I remember telling hubby to tell the doctor to just cut me open and take the baby out. I was induced so apparently the pain was much worse. When they finally gave epidural, it was relief beyond everything and I actually managed to doze off. Eventually they did cut me open for an emergency CS because Yuri was so large.

I gave birth din ng epidural, matagal ang labor ko but yung delivery ko mabilis lang mga 3 ire lang lumabas na..at kitang kita ko yung baby pati how the nurses cleaned her..yun lang ang maganda dun alam mo lahat ng nangyayari sa paligid mo..yung twilight binigay na option sa akin kaso inde ko na **** kaya pain kaya i opted for epidural masakit lang **** yung insertion ng med sa spinal...but if ever i'll have another chance of giving birth mag epidural pa rin ako.

for me mas okey ang twilight kc at least **** papano may mas mafefeel ka pa para makapagpush during the actual labor unlike epidural you will feen numb from waist downward and mahihirapan ka magpush kc wala ka na nararamdaman..kaya yun iba na epidural pag hndi nakakaire wawa c baby hndi kagad makalabas kaya minsan ang ginagawa ng ob dindaganan ang tummy ng mommy para makalabas lang baby..ang ang alam ko mas mahal ang epidural..tsaka mas delikado pag sa likod ng spine tinuturok ang anesthesia may possibility na maging gulay ang katawan pag nagkamali ng dosage ng anesthesia..remember our spine is very sensitive ..pwede ma comatose once na may something na negtaive happen in our spine

i had epidural din when i gave birth .. for induced labor na ko kasi i have pre-eclampsia .. so 4 days of induced labor then 10hours sa delivery room .. ire ako nd ire kaso hindi bumaba si baby .. and sobrang sakit na kahit may epidural na .. sa sobrang sakit .. nagwawala na daw ako dun .. i accidentally kicked one resident doctor .. so wala na silang magawa pinatulog na lang nila ako .. sad thing is hindi ko man lang nakita si baby lumabas .. errr ..

i dont really get what twilight is. Kung maffeel mo pa yung pain whats the point na pa twilight kapa or is that yung sabi ng tita ko na hindi mo na kailangan mashado umire kasi yun yung parang tutulong sayo to push the baby out? pls enlighten me

With twilight sleep, it involves a cocktail of drugs (morphine yata and iba pa, di ko na matandaan) that is administered through injection. Ang pagkakaintindi ko, these drugs pass on to the baby kaya usually paglabas ng baby, drowsy ito and nahihirapan huminga. I think that's the reason why it's not used so often (or at all?) dito sa US.

Epidural naman is administered through a catheter in the epidural space sa spine natin. I'm not entirely sure kung ano anong drugs ang kasama dito pero definitely includes anaesthetics (-caine drugs). I think the amount of drugs passed on to the baby is significantly less compared to twilight sleep. And sa epidural they can control how much you're getting at a certain point kaya puede i-off at some part of your labor.

Personally, I was a bit wary of any of these drugs passing on to my baby maski small amount lang kaya I opted to try for an anaesthetic-free childbirth.

Yikes, morphine? I definitely won't want to do that.

the problem daw kasi usually with epidural is because ur sensations are numb na, u will find it difficult to push as much as when ure really experiencing the pain.
Depende siguro sa pagka-administer ng epidural. In my case it was only used to relieve the pain of the contractions and give me time to rest, when it was time to push I guess they turned off the epidural again because I felt everything. And my baby wasn't drowsy at all after she came out.

I had twilight when I gave birth to my son. Actually, nung nasa hospital na ako and namimilipit na ako sa sakit, I requested for an epidural but my OB said it's too late na daw para dun so binigyan nalang me ng pampaantok. Mga 2 to 4 mins. lang ***** *** tulog ko then magigising ulit me sa sobrang sakit. I woke up nung binuksan na ni doc yung spotlight kasi lalabas na si baby. I pushed and I pushed which was so difficult for me to do kasi may sipon pa ako nung time na yun. Then finally, lumabas din si baby. Yun nga lang, pagkalabas ng baby ko nakatulog na ako derecho so I wasn't able to see my child kaagad Nagising nalang ako nung nasa ibang room na ako - finished na yung cleaning, stitches, everything.

So, I guess in my case, I wasn't given the opportunity to choose between epidural and twilight given the situation.

sneezy, that was also my plan, no pain relief at all. i was reading ina may's book during my entire pregnancy and i thought it would be a breeze. mind over matter ang mantra ko. i even told my husband americans just have a low tolerance for pain, thus the popularity of epidural and narcotics. ang yabang ko pa during the childbirth classes kasi i announced na i don't want any anesthetic while the rest opted for epidural.

during my delivery, after 2 hrs pa lang of active labor, i asked for epidural na. alaskado tuloy ako ni mister. i believe timing is very important sa epidural because i remember when i got to 9.5 cm dilation and my legs were still numb, the doctor expressed some concern. anyways, i never got to full dilation so i had C-section. what i didn't like about the epidural was i felt so cold during the entire operation, as in kaligkig sa ginaw.

nung nasa recovery room na, the RNs gave instructions about pressing a button if the pain is unbearable. i was so proud that i didn't have to throughout the night. yun pala, the whole time i was on morphine. you press only to increase the amount that goes into your system.

I completely understand that. In fact, the main reasons why I switched from OB to midwife in the middle of my pregnancy was because I JUST KNEW that if I were to give birth in a hospital, I would definitely cave and ask for drugs. Sa midwife, walang choice because they cannot administer prescription medication except for antibiotics.
Unfortunately I had to get a hospital transfer and they hooked me up to Pitocin. I was in hard labor for 6 hours and halos photo finish ako. If it had lasted longer, I'm pretty sure I would've gotten pain relief na.
