ABS-CBN interrupted its regular programming to give way to the live coverage of the historic impeachment trial via “Ang Hatol: Chief Justice Corona,” which most Filipinos watched yesterday when the senator-judges finally delivered their verdicts as it hit a national TV rating of 18.5% against GMA (11.8%), GMA News TV (3.1%), and TV5 (2.9%), based on data from Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN’s coverage also ruled the ratings race last Monday with a national TV rating of 10.3% versus TV5 (2.8%) and GMA News TV (1.7%), and last Friday (May 25) with a national TV rating of 11.5% against TV5 (3.1%) and GMA News TV (3.0%).

ABS-CBN’s official hashtag #CJonTrial became the top trending topic in the Philippines as Filipinos tweeted their thoughts while actively watching the trial. The coverage of ABS-CBN, the largest and leading multimedia conglomerate in the country, has reached more Filipinos in the country and worldwide through its media platforms on free TV via ABS-CBN and Studio 23, on cable TV via DZMM TeleRadyo and ANC, on radio via DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, and online livestreaming via abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The country’s most trusted anchors also delivered updates from the Senate, with Korina Sanchez and Ted Failon for ABS-CBN Channel 2, Julius Babao for DZMM, and Tony Velasquez, Lynda Jumilla, Karen Davila, and Atty. Adel Tamano for ANC. ABS-CBN broadcast the hearing live in lieu of its regular programming for the Fiilpino public and widened its reach through all of its media platforms and generated wider political participation by making information more accessible to them.

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN Corp. on Monday launched the ABS-CBN Social Media Newsroom, which provides the latest news about the company for journalists, bloggers and the online community.

With this effort, ABS-CBN becomes the first Philippine TV network to set-up a social media newsroom.

ABS-CBN head of Corporate Communications Bong Osorio said the online portal addresses the need of journalists for up-to-date information about ABS-CBN and bloggers who are constantly looking for materials and sources for content.

"The ABS-CBN Social Media Newsroom best exemplifies communications in a digital world. It enables ABS-CBN to be more in touch with its stakeholders and partners here and abroad who would like to know more about our programs and services that we offer,” said Osorio, who was the former International Association of Business Communicators regional director for Asia.

Osorio noted the creation of a social media newsroom is a growing trend among many companies, as a way to address the needs of journalists and bloggers for information.

The ABS-CBN Social Media Newsroom contains the latest press releases and photos about ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries, as well as videos, interview transcripts with celebrities and executives and RSS feed services. Users can share the materials via Facebook, Twitter and Google+.

"Digital communication allows us to engage our audiences instantly and efficiently. We’ve made the design of ABS-CBN Social Media Newsroom user-friendly and produce press releases in formats preferred by journalists and bloggers," ABS-CBN Corporate Affairs & PR director Kane Errol Choa said.

Users can log-on to www.abscbnpr.com to check the latest materials posted on ABS-CBN Social Media Newsroom or download apps on iOS, Android, Windows phones that can read RSS feeds such as Google Reader, Taptu, or Flipboard.

The ABS-CBN Public Relations Group under the Corporate Communications Division will be uploading the new materials daily, which will automatically be tweeted from @abscbnpr and updated on facebook.com/abscbnpr.

ABS-CBN News mobile app dominates Android, iPhone; now available in iPad too
    Posted at 06/23/2012

MANILA, Philippines -- Transcending its dominant presence in broadcast media and online platforms, ABS-CBN News reaches out to more Filipinos through its official presence across mobile devices.

ABS-CBN News’ mobile device application has been the most downloaded local news app since it was launched for Android-based phones, iPhones and smartphones last year. Now this news app is also available in iPad.

The ABS-CBN News app is looking to secure this top spot as it launches the version of the mobile program optimized specifically for the popular Apple tablet computer. This gives followers of the ABS-CBN News app a literally bigger and better experience via the higher-resolution iPad screen.

The native iPad app boasts of a unique, iPad-targeted interface, with more (40) news items viewable.

The iPad version of the ABS-CBN News app also has improved social media features, featuring two feeds in the “Social” tab: @ANCALERTS and News anchors’ posts. The earlier version of the app for Android devices, iPhone and smartphones featured a single social media stream.

obile app users continue to enjoy the option of tying the app to their Facebook and Twitter accounts for easier sharing of stories.

And just like its predecessor made for the smartphones, the ABS-CBN News iPad app allows users to contribute to Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo (BMPM), ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs’ citizen journalism community, directly. This functionality allows users to take or upload pictures or videos of news or events significant to them or their communities and send them directly to ireport@abs-cbn.com, BMPM’s e-mail for receiving citizen reports.

    Most downloaded/ installed

For users in the Philippines, the official ABS-CBN News app for Android-based smartphones and tablets has been the most downloaded local news mobile program – going past the 50,000 mark – since its launch late last year. It is numerically overtaken only by international news organization's official apps.

On the other hand, ABS-CBN News is the fourth most installed free news app in the Philippines in the iPhone, surpassed only by international news organizations' mobile presence.

Since its launch early 2011, the ABS-CBN News iPhone app has been installed about 250,000 times.

This dominance appears to be registering itself very early for the ABS-CBN iPad app. On the eve of any formal announcement for the iPad app, ABS-CBN News’ app became the number one most downloaded local app among free news-based applications, surpassing even the mobile presence of international news organizations Newsweek and National Geographic.

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) found an ally in television network giant, ABS-CBN in promoting the overseas absentee voting until May 2013.

ABS-CBN Chairman and chief executive officer Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III and ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Senior Vice President Ma. Regina "Ging" Reyes, along with other ABS-CBN executives, graced the occasion.

Doris Bigornia returns to ABS-CBN News
    March 13, 2013

Ging Reyes is reaching back into the glory days of ABS-CBN News as Doris Bigornia makes her comeback to the network beginning tonight on TV Patrol.

"Pls watch tv patrol 6:30 tonight. Ako ay nagbalik na. In english: i am home!" tweeted by Bigornia.

In her last tweet (as of 5 pm), Bigornia tweeted: "Doris Bigornia, Patrol ng Pilipino " and received a warm welcome from netizens and fellow newsers, including Jenny Reyes, Jeff Canoy and GMA News' Jun Veneracion.

Bigornia is returning to the network where she got her first big break. Viewers may remember her as one of the most-sought TV reporters of her generation, covering the biggest stories of the last two decades, which earned her the title "Mutya ng Masa."

We heard that the deal was closed last week and that she was reintroduced to the newsers inside the ABS-CBN newsroom.

Bigornia was terminated in 2006 by the previous ABS-CBN News management for her allegedly biased coverage of the tsunami scare in Batangas. She has since then filed a case against the network and won in 2011 when the Court of Appeals junked a petition filed by the network against her.

ABS-CBN has most watched election coverage
    ABS-CBNnews.com
    Posted at 05/16/2013

MANILA, Philippines -- ABS-CBN's "Halalan 2013" was the country's most watched election coverage on Monday, when millions of Filipinos went to the polls.

Based on TV ratings data from multinational market research group Kantar Media, which covers national urban and rural homes, "Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo: Tayo Na Halalan 2013" garnered a cumulative average nationwide rating of 13.7% from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight on May 13.

Its rival program aired on GMA-7, "Eleksyon 2013," on the other hand, only registered an average national TV rating of 10% on the same day.

Continuing the comprehensive election coverage of ABS-CBN, the network's flagship newscast "TV Patrol" on Monday also drew a strong viewership, with 27% in national TV ratings. Its rival program "24 Oras," in comparison, only registered a nationwide rating of 18.4%.

The wide audience share of "Halalan 2013" was also reflected in the online trending topics on micro-blogging site Twitter on Monday, as Filipino netizens used the hashtag of the program's title to air their reactions to election-related news and report about poll-related incidents.

On May 13, "#Halalan2013" was the only hashtag based on a national election coverage to make it to the top trending topics on Twitter.

    Comprehensive coverage

Among the most talked about topics online were results in hotly contested areas, such as those featured in ABS-CBN's "KampanyaSerye" documentaries -- Manila, Masbate, Cavite, Cebu, Pampanga, Zamboanga, and Laguna.

Aside from the local races, "Halalan 2013" also delivered updates on the results in overseas absentee voting through its international news bureaus.

With the help of about half a million Bayan Patrollers, and 221 reporters in the Philippines and key global cities scattered in 45 live points, "Halalan 2013" was also able to zoom in on irregularities and election-related incidents in different localities reported through ABS-CBN's different multimedia platforms.

The program likewise had respected analysts dissecting the results and issues related to the polls.

Filipinos were able to access the comprehensive coverage of "Halalan 2013" through ABS-CBN's multimedia presence, with the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) and DZMM TeleRadyo offering uninterrupted 48-hour election coverage.

On digital media, ABS-CBNNews.com provided the latest news and analysis of election results as they came in. The website also offered online exclusives, including a comprehensive social media tracker, which was launched in partnership with IBM Philippines. Through the tracker, netizens were able monitor the social media buzz on the positive and negative commentaries and conversations about the candidates.

Through the Comelec-Halalan 2013 mobile app for smartphones and tablets, ABS-CBN also empowered citizens with relevant information, such as precinct locations, list and profiles of candidates and partylists, as well as the latest aggregated, partial and unofficial election results in national and local polls.

    Bayan patrollers

Also taking part in "Halalan 2013" were celebrity patrollers for "Bayan Mo iPatrol Mo: Tayo Na (BMPM)," including TV host Bianca Gonzalez, actresses Valerie Concepcion and Melai Cantiveros, the Philippine Azkals' Chieffy Caligdong, comedian-host John Lapus and singers Jed Madela and Sam Concepcion.

The popular personalities from different fields received inquiries and concerns on the elections via hotlines, online portals and their personal Twitter accounts.

On the field, ABS-CBN also set up BMPM stations in key areas in the country to assist voters in finding their precincts, receive complaints and reports regarding the polls, and respond to medical emergencies.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57% of the Philippine TV viewing population.
