MANILA, Philippines – Broadcast giant ABS-CBN once again dominated the recently concluded 2012 Gandingan Awards held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) in Laguna on Saturday night.

Several ABS-CBN shows were recognized based on the survey of 1,000 students of UPLB.

Among the awards ABS-CBN received are:

Iginawad sa DZMM TeleRadyo ang Anvil Award of Merit Public Relations Programs Directed at Specific Stakeholders - Customers at sa DZMM Teaching, Learning, Caring (TLC) naman iginawad ang Anvil Award of Merit Public Relations Programs on Sustained Basis Social Responsibility.

Maging ang Tambayan 101.9 ay nakapag-uwi ng parangal Anvil Award of Merit for Public Relations Tools Special Events dahil sa Tambayan OPM Awards.

ABS-CBN Bags 4 Anvil Awards

ABS-CBN Corporation bagged four recognitions at the recent 47th Anvil Awards for its outstanding programs and tools in public relations namely a trailblazing online TV series, an education and health advocacy via mobile trucks, innovations undertaken for a radio-cable TV channel, and a successful local awards honoring the best in Filipino music.

The pioneering Imortal Online project initiated by the ABS-CBN Digital Brand Management won for its achievement in engaging fans of the TV series “Imortal,” topbilled by Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz, in the online world via its originally produced web series, artwork contests, and other user generated contents.

It drew a remarkable following of 275,593 registered users in its first three months and reached up to 15 million page views in the same time period.

One of the reasons why Imortal Online was a big hit in the internet is its original web episodes dubbed as “Anino’t Panaginip” that featured sub-plots of the story of Lia and Mateo being aired on TV via the series “Imortal.” A total of 24 webisodes were exclusively produced and the site is set to produce new episodes this 2012.

Also, through its artwork contest “Likhang Imortal,” netizens were able to showcase their creative talents online by making their own “Imortal” characters. Out of a total of 12,397 entries, Imortal Online picked 30 finalists and the entry which topped online votes was awarded with a P50,000 cash prize.

Aside from artworks, the site also encouraged users to send in their original stories via “Kuwentong Imortal” and select entries were transformed into an animated online manga in the section “I-mortal.”

ABS-CBN’s radio AM station DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 and cable TV channel DZMM TeleRadyo, on the other hand, won two Anvils for its Teaching, Learning, Caring classroom and clinic on wheels or TLC and its innovative strategies and initiatives of the country’s leading news cable channel DZMM TeleRadyo.

TLC bagged the award for helping underprivileged barangays through its classroom and clinic on-wheels. It offered storytelling sessions and was able to render medical check-ups to almost 30,000 individuals since its launch back in November 2010.

DZMM TeleRadyo, on the other hand, was recognized for its achievements in expanding its viewership, creating innovative approaches for its advertisers that led to higher ad revenues for the station, and increasing subscription revenues by getting more cable TV operators to carry the station nationwide.

Its FM radio counterpart Tambayan 101.9 also took home an Anvil award for its annual “Tambayan 101.9 OPM Awards.” The TOPMA successfully paid tribute to Filipino music artists by honoring original Pinoy music. It also engaged its listeners and provided an avenue for its DJ’s to interact with them during the awarding event.

ABS-CBN bagged the most number of Anvil awards among TV networks with four recognitions as compared to GMA’s three and TV5’s one.

The Anvil Awards is an annual event organized by the PRSP that honors outstanding public relations programs and tools. Prior to the Anvil Awards, ABS-CBN earned four recognitions for its PR programs from the Philippine Quill Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators. ABS-CBN was the most-awarded TV network in both Anvil and Quill Awards that honor the best works in public relations and business communications.

Isang araw matapos ibulgar sa TV Patrol ng deaf honor student na si "Aubrey" ang modus operandi ng binansagan nilang 'Kidnap Pipi Gang' na bumibiktima ng mga batang may kapansanan para gawing sex slaves at mga pulubi, isa pang batang biniktima rin ng grupo ang nakilala ng ABS-CBN.

Kuwento ni Kay o alias "KC,” tatlong buwan siyang ginawang sex slave at pulubi matapos siyang dukutin malapit sa kanyang eskuwelahan sa Commonwealth, Quezon City noong isang taon.

Ayon pa sa kanya, may walong iba pang bata na may kapansanan din ang hawak pa diumano ng sindikato.

“Inalisan daw sila ng mga panty, ng mga bra. Tapos ang mga nakakulong, walang mga damit. Pinapalabas sila, hinihila ang buhok nila,” ani KC.

Naalarma naman ang Philippine National Police (PNP) sa naging pahayag ni KC kaya't agad bumuo ng task group para hanapin ang mga miyembro ng sindikatong bumibiktima sa mga batang may kapansanan.

“Dapat sila ang inaalagaan kaya sa narinig ko na ginawa sa kanila, talaga namang nakakasakit ito ng damdamin,” sabi ni PNP Chief Nicanor Bartolome.

ABS-CBN clinches finalist spot for New York Festivals 2012 Radio Program Awards


THE PHILIPPINES, MAY 16, 2012: The Philippines managed to break through 196 entries from 22 countries, emerging with a single contender for the title in the New York Festivals 2012 Radio Program Awards. ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, through its AM radio station DZMM, earned a finalist spot in the competition with “Kabayan”, in the Best Public Affairs Program category.

Meanwhile, with 22 ticks in the total tally, RTE Ireland leads the pack of finalists for the New York Festivals Radio Program and Promotion Awards. RTE Ireland is followed by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation with 12, Australian Broadcasting Corporation with 10, ESPN USA with 8, and Radio Netherlands Worldwide with 7. American Public Media USA, Reliance Broadcast India, and Wise Buddha Creative UK each garnered five finalist slots, while O’Reilly Television Inc. Canada, Radio Free Asia USA, and TBI Media UK each earned four.

Established in 1982, the NYF Radio Program and Promotion Awards honors the most innovative work in radio broadcasting, with entries from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from around the globe.

MANILA, Philippines -- ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs' live coverage of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona during its 40th day reached more Filipinos around the world, as it dominated TV viewership and local Internet buzz on Tuesday.

During Day 40 of Corona's impeachment trial, when the chief magistrate historically took the witness stand, ABS-CBN's live coverage of the proceedings had the biggest viewership with a national TV rating of 11.3%, ahead of TV5's (3.3%) and GMA News TV’s (3.0%), based on data from Kantar Media.

ABS-CBN's official hashtag for the coverage, #CJonTrial, on the same day also became a number 1 global trending topic on micro-blogging site Twitter, highlighting an unprecedented level of community engagement in the trial via social media.

Aside from viewing via free television shows through ABS-CBN and Studio 23, Filipinos were also able to catch the proceedings on cable TV via DZMM TeleRadyo and ANC, on the radio via DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, and through online live-streaming via abs-cbnNEWS.com.

During the 40th day of his impeachment trial, Chief Justice Renato Corona agreed to reveal all details of his bank accounts with the condition that Senator-judge Franklin Drilon and the lawmakers who voted to impeach him do the same.

Corona then suddenly stood up and left the witness stand after ending his opening statement, prompting Senate Presidnet Juan Ponce-Enrile to order security to padlock the Senate exit gates.

This, even as Corona's vehicle was seen parked outside the Senate building exit waiting for the chief justice.

Corona later returned on a wheelchair, with his chief legal counsel Serafin Cuevas explaining that his client had suddenly experienced low blood sugar or hypoglycemia -- his reason for leaving the Senate chamber without proper procedure.
