I just got interested in it but I still prefer to play without a capo but it sure looks cool to play a capo since our fingers cant do it all
here are some videos on capo

another question what is the difference of a telecaster from a strat? which is better considering the number of pick ups in the strat is greater than the tele, which sounds more cooler?if I had to purchase from the two which will I buy first?
ok din kasi gumamit ng capo lalo na kung acoustic player ka, kasi mas maraming sounds ang pwede mong magawa since temporarily naka-bar lahat ng strings so you can explroe more. pero like you, I prefer not to use a capo as well hehe

my niece is turning 7 year old and this summer I would want for her to have guitar lessons this summer.
What guitar school would you recommend? I've asked Yamaha at SM Megamall and their rates are P7,00 for 12 sessions at 1hr per session. I will inquire at RJ guitars. Any info at the guitar shops at V. Mapa? Do they teach guitar lessons? rates?
Any recommendations for a good guitar school? and what particular guitar would be suitable for her age.

any comment on Yupangco yamaha's school of music? magaling po ba ang turo? or would going to the lessons offered in a conservatory be better?

I took a summer course at RJ back when I was in high school (almost 9 years ago!) I learned more in those 12 sessions than I did in 4 years of being self taught. I was lucky enough to get Aaron Dignos (formerly from Death by Stereo) as my teacher too!

I think fundamentals are important, but what is also important is to have fun. Nothing discourages a kid more than boring repetition of the major scale. I remember half of the RJ curriculum was theory, and the other half was basically was that the student gets to learn the songs that he/she wants to play. Of course I asked to be taught how to play Wolfgang tunes (Metallica internet tabs were aplenty enough).

It's good to balance theory with the fun stuff.

It was also at RJ where I was exposed to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Al di Meola et al. So not only did they reinforce the stuff that I already know, but they introduced me to new things as well.

@PhotoJoe: breaking the rules of theory is pretty fun too... like putting in a major scale-based solo in a minor progression hehehe. Or just stumbling upon a riff not based upon a scale shape

@ermonski thanks, but in the song hits its G-Em-...etc.. im just curious about the intro cause it looks different

my suggestion is not to get a teacher yet and learn how to play the guitar by herself all she needs is some chord chart from a songhits like sound publishing and play songs what she likes you should ask your niece what kind of music is she in. because if your going to push your niece to learn by paying a teacher she may get bored or lose interest in my opinion.
