    1) This thread is now sticky.
    2) Only announcements are allowed. Place as much detail as you can, the way SUX2BU did.
    3) Announcements must have some academic relevance. If four of your classmates in Psychology 151 will be guesting on Wowowee or Deal or No Deal, good luck to them, but they can't announce it in this thread.
    4) Comments, inquiries, and wisecracks will be deleted.

LIKHANG BAYAN EXPLORES TRADITIONAL FILIPINO ARTS

“When we grow to be aware and appreciative of our artistic patrimony we acquire the responsibility to help preserve the art and pass on what we know…”

A core group of the faculty members from the College of Fine Arts & Design formed Traditional Filipino Arts (TFA) to find ways of integrating the teaching of traditional Filipino arts into the visual arts curriculum.

The TFA core group and their students intend to share with the Thomasians what they learned in the fruits of their art-making encounters with the traditional artists of Bulacan, Pateros, and Paete, through an art exhibit entitled “Likhang Bayan: An Exploration of Traditional Filipino Arts”.

On display are art-works consisting of, or are inspired by, the pabalat ng pastillas (pastillas wrapper), puni (palm leaf art), abalorio (the art of beading), bamboo craft and the taka (papier mache).

The exhibit will open on November 5 at 10 am, UST Museum of Arts and Sciences, Mezzanine Level, Main Building of the University of Santo Tomas, and will have a run up to November 14. Exhibit hours are from 9 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesdays thru Saturdays.

This will offer opportunities for teachers and students to learn, first-hand, from traditional craft practitioners. Craft demonstration sessions will be held on November 8 (Thursday) and November 13 (Tuesday).
