Claudine undergoes procedures to regain body’s top shape

After giving birth to Rodrigo Santino, who’s now two months old, actress Claudine Barretto is set to return to work and start taping for her new tele-serye on ABS-CBN. She will star in "Maligno," the remake of a Susan Roces film for which the latter won a FAMAS best actress trophy in the seventies.
Claudine is bent on getting back to top form before she resumes acting again. "I gained 64 pounds when I was pregnant," she grants. "After giving birth, I lost 30 pounds right away. Breastfeeding helped me lose weight. So far, I’ve shed off 50 pounds already, but I need to lose some more and get my old shape back. I want to be 90 to 95 pounds again. I have to start working soon."
Two weeks ago, Claudine underwent Smart Lipo for her arms and wings (upper back), with Dr. Vicki Belo. "It was not my first time to have SmartLipo," Claudine discloses. "Before my wedding, I had SmartLipo on my tummy. Malaki kasi puson ko. Even if I was only 90 pounds, I looked like I was four months pregnant because of my puson. It’s in the genes. Nasa lahi ng Mommy ko.
"Among my sisters, I was the only one who got that. But after giving birth, the SmartLipo procedure turned out to be a big advantage because naging flat agad ‘yung tummy ko. I was really surprised because para akong nag-work out. Hindi na bumalik ‘yung malaking tummy ko that I merely used to hide. Now, I’m also regularly working out. Dr. Belo gave me a trainor who monitors my workout. It’s been helping a lot."
She attests that the SmartLipo procedure helped her easily lose weight, too. "Others who gave birth take at least six months to fit into their old clothes again," Claudine offers. "For me it only took two months. Mababaw ako, I want to wear sleeveless kasi mainit dito sa Pilipinas. Now, I can do that again. As a showbiz star, you have to look good for the public. The fans expect you to look good.
"When I was pregnant, people would tell me, ‘Ang taba mo’ or ‘Ang laki-laki mo.’ Masakit pakinggan, di ba? They probably didn’t understand that I was pregnant. But I didn’t over-eat because I really didn’t want to gain weight. So when I was interviewed if I was afraid to get big or magda-diet ako, I would just say, ‘Okay lang tumaba. Nand’yan naman si Dr. Belo.’ So I was confident I would get my old body shape back."
Last Monday, Claudine showed up again at the BeloGreenhills clinic, where she had *** reduction with cosmetic surgeon Dr. Lutgardo Caparas. It took a lot of convincing for her husband, Raymart Santiago, to allow her to undergo *** reduction.
"I told him, I carried your son for nine months," Claudine says. "After giving birth, dapat sexy na ako agad. Dr. Belo is our ninang and we really trust her. She is the best. She also has the best doctors and surgeons. She helped me convince Raymart."
A few years ago, Claudine was rumored to have undergone *** augmentation. "There were other worse rumors about me," she maintains. "I’ve been pregnant half a dozen times. I’ve had abortion. I’ve had a nose lift. You won’t really know which to believe anymore."
Claudine gave birth through normal delivery at Medical City Hospital in Pasig last July 19, a day short of her and Raymart’s shared birthdays. Last July 20, Claudine turned 28, while Raymart turned 34. The baby’s name, Rodrigo Santino, has to start with the letter R in keeping with the Santiago family’s tradition of giving all their offsprings names that begin with R.
Claudine informs that even before she gave birth, she had received offers for her and her baby to do TV commercials. They have yet to give their nod, though, to any product endorsement. Beating the path to their door are three diaper brands and a milk company.
Claudine discloses it’s okay for her hubby Raymart to allow their son to do TV commercials, but joining showbiz is a topic that they should seriously discuss. She attests how Raymart is so protective with their daughter Sabina, who is now three years old. He even brings Sabina to school at Multiple Intelligence in Katipunan, which is near their house.
"Maybe when Santino is old enough and he shows interest in showbiz, that’s the time we’ll decide if we’ll allow him," Claudine says. "You can’t stop him kung talagang hilig niya at nasa dugo nya naman."
Dedication for their son will happen most likely next year, according to Claudine, when Santino is one year old. Among the godparents that the couple is eyeing include Robin Padilla, Edu Manzano, Diether Ocampo, Kris Aquino and Liz Almoro.
Claudine cannot be happier than she is now when things seem to have been in the right place. Even before she gave birth, she had patched up her feud with older sister Gretchen Barretto. The latter was in the hospital to visit Claudine and her baby.
"Up to this time, wala pang gift ang ate ko kay Santino," Claudine jests. "Dapat maalala na niya ulit ang pamangkin niya. But I understand she’s very busy. Tony Boy (Cojuangco) is sick and Gretchen had to go to the US with him."
When it comes to her showbiz career, Claudine points out she does not harbor any ill-feeling toward ABS-CBN even if the network recently signed up Angel Locsin, who jumped ship from GMA 7. Claudine has no reason to be insecure, too, about Angel, since Claudine has projects lined up at ABS-CBN.
Claudine clarifies she didn’t know that Angel was joining ABS-CBN. "I had just given birth for a week then when Rikka Dylim of Star Magic told me about it," Claudine shares. "I’m happy with ABS-CBN because they continue to give me assignments and they take care of my showbiz career."
Claudine and Raymart tied the knot in a Christian ceremony in the picturesque garden in Tagaytay Highlands on March 27, 2006. The significant date also marks the wedding anniversary of Raymart’s parents, Pablo and Cielito Santiago.
Claudine says she and Raymart will wait for another four or five years before having another baby.
