Here's the e-mail from Ms. Maricon Lupisan, outgoing ACPAE President:

Dear Colleagues, Have just talked to Ma'am Ellen Cabrera re: accreditation process and have relayed to her the various concerns that some of you have emailed to me. 1. Where to pay and file the application for accreditation a. Pay the fee of P1,500 at PRC b. File the application form and submit the requirements at PICPA House. ACPAE / PICPA will assign one or two people to assist you and / or accept your documents. Place all documents in a brown envelope and make sure they are complete. Applications with incomplete documents will not be accepted. 2. Deadline for submission of application for accreditation Deadline is still May 15; however, applications submitted after May 15 will still be accepted. 3. Allocation of CPE units It is preferred that you classify the CPE units earned; however if it is difficult to do so- just submit the necessary documents as proof of the trainings and seminars attended. Kindly prepare a summary / list of these trainings and seminars to facilitate checking. Please feel free to email me if you have some concerns re: accreditation of accounting'teachers. TO ALL THE ACCOUNTING TEACHERS WHO ARE NOW MOTHERS - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!! Maricon

Feedback on the meeting among BoA, ACPAE & CPA Reviewers.

The requirements of 12-units of teaching subjects will apply only to new teachers who will join the academe beginning SY 2008-2009. School administrators were not yet advised either by CHED or BoA about the accreditation requirements for teachers. I asked BoA if there will be sanction for teaching without accreditation, there is none for the schools/school administrators, because BoA has no supervisory powers over non-CPAs. However, they can run after non-accredited CPA teachers.

Here's the catch - BoA will not lift a finger about non-accredited accounting teachers if no one files a complaint against them.... Therefore, silence is golden....Non-accredited CPAs or even non-CPAs can continue to teach for as long as no one files a case against them.

Whatever happened to the "motu propio" provision in the Accountancy Law?

Well, unless someone files a case of illegal practice of the Accountancy profession, the BoA will not lift a finger to call the attention of the school & the teacher.

This Program will be delivered in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).

Program Overview. The practical application of IFRS is a high priority for the World Banl's partner countries. Thru the establishment of IFRS capacity, all nations are better able to improve financial decision-making and investors' perceptions of risk thru the provision of internationally acceptable reporting practices. This course will train-the-trainers of IFRS and will provide international certification of those trainers to disseminate this knowledge thru the provision of training programs within their own countries.

Mode of Delivery. The course will be conducted thru 7 scheduled workshops delivered thru Video Conferences (VC) combined with a self-study program using an interactive Electronic Learning Pack provided to each participant. In between workshops, participants will be supported in their studies thru: (1) remote tutor support to address participant issues, queries, concerns, etc.; (2) Certificate Learning materials, incorporating worked examples and IFRS worksheets; and (3) Tutor support by email (in parallel with self study) and potentially scheduled webinars or cliniccs to address issues, queries, concerns, etc.

A pre-course questionnaire will be administered to assess participants' relevant knowledge.

The first video-conference session of the World Bank-sponsored IFRS Train-the-trainer program was held at the Global Distance Learning Center of the Asian Institute of Management. About 130 Participants from Bangkok (Thailand), Beijing (China), Hanoi (Vietnam), Jakarta (Indonesia), Manila (Phils.), Ulaan Baatar (Mongolia) listened to the lecturer from London. The 20 participants from the Phils. had a good time together. Although the video conference started at 2:00pm, some provincial participants were already at AIM as early as 6am, so we have a good time bonding together. Next session will be on July 24-25. Between now & July 24, participants will be doing their online tutorials. Happy learning to all...from your saling pusa (wala ako sa official list)...

OMG! It's Sir Anson Keh! Pexer pala kayo?! I wonder if there are other Anson groupies here like me. Haha.

Anyway, I usually check this thread because I have 2 cousins who are in the academe. I just give them a few "FYIs" on what I get here. Di kasi sila ma-internet like me. Haha.

Cousin 1 is a CPA Lawyer who is the accountancy chair of a college in the province. Cousin 2 is an ME/CPA who teaches part-time in several universities in Manila.

It's nice to see that accounting educators are helping each other out. Anyway, Sir Keh has kick-*** quizzes. Harder than the CPA board, IMHO. Sir Keh! Wala bang bagong joke diyan? hehehe.

Besides, hindi naman ni-require ng BoA na i-shoulder ng school ang teachers' training costs.
Sir Larry, I'd like to correct you regarding "patay-malisya" regarding accreditation of accounting teachers. I stood up in the Accounting Teachers' Conference doon sa Baguio if you can still remember it. After I spoke against this accreditation thing, I was followed by many faculty so they decided to stop the open forum.

I honestly believe that these accreditations we are having is being used by some to earn money at the detriment of those in the provinces.

Kaya nga parang naniniwala na ako sa mga tsismis na may "mafia" sa PICPA/ACPAE. I hope I'm wrong.

Brigham's book used to be the prescribed reading for CFA Level 1 Financial Management. It is also the prescribed book for FM1 at AIM. According to Aljon Lee (RESA), Ross' book is the prescribed book of National University of Singapore. Ross' book is also highly recommended by an AIM co-faculty of mine.

Another good one is authored by Brealey and Myers. I have the instructor's resources for Brigham, you can prescribe Ross & exchange deal tayo sa instructor's resources. A very good book in FM is authored by Ashwath Damodaran. He has a website called Damodaran Online, maraming free downloadables from his site, the manuscript of one book is even downloadable for free.

When teaching Financial Management, one has to know both theory and practice, kasi sometimes theory doesn't happen in practice. FM books has a higher-level edition, usually may caption na Theory & Practice.
I will be teaching Financial Management in the master's program this semester and this is my first time to teach in that program. Where can I order the book of Brigham? Pwedeng makahingi ng instructor's resources sa iyo sir Larry?

When CPA Reviewers & BoA meeting on the first day of the board exam, I raised the issue of teacher accreditation. I think sumama lang ang dating ng accreditation kasi it was "required", at first ok ang intention ng 12-units of teaching subjects, however, when very few complied, biglang na-waive sa mga "present" teachers. So para sa akin, the purpose was defeated. I would really prefer a "voluntary" accreditation, and accreditation as a "master teacher" per subject para may stamp of approval from "respectable" peers. Mahilig pa rin tayo sa "form" wala pa ring "substance".

    Hi Sir,

DLSU - Manila has a tie up with Netsuite. Students (both accountancy and non accountancy majors) are taught the program/module software in their basic accounting subjects.

It would be great to have a tie up with SAP since most multinational companies are using that program.

Glad to see you in this forum also and maybe in person.
