Prof. Name: Dr. Minerva S. Baylon
Description: Ewan ko, for me magaling and effective syang magturo. Comprehensive din ang discussions kaya dapat nagbabasa ka other than dun sa powerpoint nya, pero her presentations are very important particularly in the exams. Exams are mostly essay, and your answers must also be comprehensive if you want an above 2.00 grade. Motherly figure at nakakainspire maging Public Ad major pag sya ang PA 11 mo. She really knows what she's talking about. Strict din sa requirements. Beware: Attendance is integral to your grade. Malaki ang bawas ng isang pag-absent sa final grade mo so please don't absent. For me, she's a great NCPAG prof.

Description: Parang grad school class ang style. You write a lot of research papers and use available reading materials to back up your claims tapos consultation. Independent study ang dating. Isang exam lang na take-home tapos pwedeng isubmit online then reporting (tapos isusubmit nyo yung copy ng lahat ng articles na ginamit nyo including yung written output for the report).

Description: Discussions are usually based sa slides nya. Mabilis syang magdiscuss kaya dapat mabilis ka rin makaintindi. He also uploads his slides. May fun activities na irerelate bya sa discussion like yung paggawa ng tower and his exams are quite easy and very applied in nature. All you need is to understand the discussions and apply that in answering very applied and analytical questions.

Description: Her style of handling class is like a crash course in policy advocacy. Onti lang yung theory and most of classes will be spent on debates, policy advocacies, and defending policy papers. In order to get a high grade, you must have conviction sa mga sinasabi mo particularly sa recit at discussions. Also, mag-consult lagi para okay yung magiging outcome ng debate.

Prof. Name: Alicia B. Celestino, MPA
Description: May grades ang attendance, and mahilig sya sa recitation (as in magtatawag sya lalo if nahuli kang di nakikinig). Her class was mostly reporting, like there's the syllabus she prepared and every topic sa syllabus i-aassign nya for reporting. Meron ding individual reporting. Two exams: yung isa, coverage yung first half. Yung second naman comprehensive (cover to cover). Combination of objective and essay, at yung essay di opinion-based kaya talagang dapat inaral mo yung slides nya. Dun sa reporting, gagawan nyo yun ng mini-research paper. Dapat substantial yung report kasi nitty-gritty sya sa sources (gusto nya 1st hand information hawak nyo, meaning if magrereport kayo on a certain topic, dapat i-interview nyo yung pertinent people mapa-mayor man yan o governor). Sa grades, she gives what you deserve (pero relatively mataas)

Ang English 30 ay business writing pero 1st half of the sem, puro grammar muna, ala-English 1. Kaya minadali ang pagtuturo nung business writing dahil kinapos na sa time. Di rin sya masyadong nagtuturo. Madalas writing exercises by group. Kapag discussion naman, parang binabasa nya lang yung nasa book. Mababa magbigay ng grade dahil mataas ang standards nya.

Anyway, sa STS, di naman mahalaga kung sino ang prof. Everyday iba-iba ang speakers kaya ang daming topic ang matatackle nyo sa buong summer/sem. Ok sya kung iisipin. Pero depende sa speaker for the day at kadalasan, boring..... Either boring yung topic o speaker. Minsan both pa. Hayyy. May mga natutulog na classmates nga e.
Si sir Vallejo once lang naging speaker and based from that, I think ok naman syang prof. He tries his best para maging lively ang discussion. Kaya lang boring yung topic nya nun.

Description: Nakukulangan ako sa pagturo ni ma'am eh. Medyo madali lang yung pagturo niya ng mga lessons pero *** exam mahirap talaga. Marami naman ako natutunan kaso nga lang *** exam parang kailangan mo talaga mag-isip ng bongga na hindi ka masyadong nagrerely sa mga bagay na pinakinggan mo lang sa lec. YOU REALLY HAVE TO STUDY HARD. or baka ako lang talagang mahirap lang talaga ang physics. Every day may quiz na 1 item. hindi ko nga alam kung narecord ba un ni ma'am o hindi. nagpapaprobset din siya na medyo madali rin. Mahirap din *** recit. Mahirap talaga *** Physics. pero may isang naka-uno sa class namin. pero marami ring 5.

Year Taken: Summer 2012

Prof. Name: Jeff Giron
Description: Very chill prof for a very chill subject. He likes people who recite all the time. Kailangan marunong ka magrecite dito para maalala ka nya (though nag-eeffort rin siyang i-remember lahat ng names nyo). Close sya sa mga students nya, so good. Okay naman yung subject as a GE kasi di naman masyadong info overload. It basically deals with art in everyday life, kaya maraming forms of art na itatackle. Under Sir Jeff, we tackled cinematic arts, urban design, fashion as an artform, museum exhibitions, and festivals. We had two field trips: one in the National Museum near Luneta and one in Lucban (just in time for the Pahiyas Festival). Not very demanding requirements. Some in-class activities, like drawing a portrait of your seatmate, a few reports, and group projects. And one or two easy enough exams (application of what you learned in class). Readings: several, pero hindi naman nagbibigay ng quiz si Sir eh. Guide lang sila for the next discussion.

Magaling mag-explain si Sir Jeff during discussions, and you can really feel na passionate siya sa topics. Very opinionated tapos minsan, marami ring sideline topics about current events. Maraming alam si Sir kahit hindi related sa arts. Very approachable tapos laging naka-ngiti si Sir. Okay naman ang exams (though sa amin, isa lang yung exam, at may 5% kung nag-attend ka ng field trip) content-wise. Super bait talaga ni Sir at considerate.

Though hindi masyadong mataas lagi ang demand kay Sir or sa ibang Art Stud subjects, I really suggest taking Art Stud 2 as a GE kasi talagang maoopen ang mind mo sa worldly issues and whatnot. Gagaling ka rin mag-analyze at observe ng mga small details (like bakit important ang everything from the frame of the painting to which part of the gallery it is stored para ma-invoke yung tone nung painting).

Oh, I forgot to mention. Expect to have a lot of giggling female classmates. Medyo notorious ang good looks ni Sir around UP eh.

Requirements: 1 or 2 exams (depende sa results ng 1st exam), activities involving the topic discussed, field trips to art galleries, group reports and projects, no quizzes about readings.

May pwedeng bilhin na slides ng lectures at the end of the sem, 100 pesos. Pero the key is to just listen to all the lectures and pick your favorites. Tapos I-wish mo na lumabas sila sa exam. (mga 50-50 chance na lalabas sila)
