Aronofsky in the running to direct Superman

Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky has joined the list of potential directors for Warner Bros.' new Superman movie, reports Heat Vision.

The list includes Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. The trade adds that Ben Affleck was also briefly in the running but he is reportedly no longer pursuing the job.

Aronofsky is said to be in active talks, though it's early.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will executive produce the film, targeted for a 2012 release.

Rumor: Superman Wants Natalie Portman as Lois Lane?

Rumor has it that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures originally wanted Natalie Portman to star in Superman Returns. If Darren Aronofsky is announced as the director in the next couple of days, it is speculated that Natalie Portman will definitely sign on soon after.

This is all rumor at the moment. No one has been signed to Superman at this point, though producer Christopher Nolan is pushing hard to make an official announcement within the next two weeks. Superman must go into production soon, as Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures stand to lose certain rights to the iconic DC Comics character in 2012.

They shouldn't hurry it up too much...don't want the finished product to turn out like what happened to the Fantastic Four (I'm talking about that one which was never even released - y'know, where The Thing looked like a humanoid blob of sh1t).

WB can always renegotiate...after all, they own DC Comics

    Can I pee first?
    just a quick Q

if Superman will be rebooted, who's going to play the Man of Steel? Would Brandon Routh be re-casted? IMO the 1st movie was an ok film. Pero ayoko lang talaga yung portrayal ni Kate Bosworth kay Lois. So kung totoo man na si Natalie Portman yung "new" I guess this film is moving in the right direction.

Zack Snyder to Direct SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL

Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) has been officially confirmed as the director of the upcoming Superman reboot, reports Heat Vision.

Snyder's name recently appeared as a rumored candidate for the position and one of several directors on the Warner Bros. short list. Snyder himself revealed in 2008 that he was originally in line to direct Superman Returns, but that he was not interested in taking the job.

"They asked me to direct a Superman movie, and I said no," was Snyder's response more than two years ago, "He's a tricky one nowadays, isn't he? He's the king daddy of all comic-book heroes, but I'm just not sure how you sell that kind of earnestness to a sophisticated audience anymore."

Snyder, who confirmed his involvement and made the following statement:

"I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one. It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David [Goyer] and Chris [Nolan] have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish 'Sucker Punch' and get right at it."

General Zod will be the villain in the new Superman movie.

    Man of Steel plot information

"Until last weekend, though, Darren Aronofsky was far more interested in directing WB's original take on Superman in which Clark Kent is a journalist traveling the world trying to decide if he should, in fact, even become Superman"

This storyline, if it is actually what they're sticking with, is the most similar to the comic "Superman: Birthright". Written by Mark Waid, the story shows a bit more of the internal struggle Kal-El has with becoming Superman.

    Superman Details from Zack Snyder

About what Zack Snyder is planning to do with this iconic superhero, possibly the most famous superhero in the world, he said:

"As I have already explained, the film will focus on the early days of Superman, so there will be no links with the other films. This is not a remake then. Similarly, although I still cannot talk about the script, I can assure you that this new Superman will not be based on any comic book in particular."

While Zack Snyder did mention that this new Superman reboot wouldn't be tied to the Richard Donner/Bryan Singer movies, he didn't rule out a connection to the CW's Smallville, which is ending its ten season run next spring.

What Kind of Superman are They Looking for?

Armie Hammer talks about the casting

Vulture got a chance to talk to The Social Network star Armie Hammer, who may have revealed what age they are looking at for title role in the Zack Snyder-directed Superman movie:

You've made a lot of people's Superman fantasy-casting lists. Did you have your people put in a call to Zack Snyder, who's directing the reboot?

[Laughs.] You know what's funny? I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they're going a little older with Superman. I hear they're going 35, 40.

Really? Wow, Jon Hamm will be excited.

Yeah, I don't know what that might mean.

    source
Thought the plot is about Clark Kent deciding if he should be Superman in the first place. Why cast an older actor?

I hope they change the plot instead. Parang nakakasawa na 'yan... we already had 10 seasons of Smallville for that.

^MrSinister: Jon Hamm as the Man of Steel - why not? He was capable in The Town opposite star/director Ben Affleck.
