    Lightbulb NBI Clearance Renewal

Mods, please merge this w/ any of the previous "NBI Clearance" threads before, if there were any. I can't search for it because searching is disabled.

    ****************

    NBI Clearance Renewal

Went out to renew my NBI Clearance recently at the mall near the Carriedo LRT Station.

    'The Negatives'

    * The office facilities were generally pathetic. The 2nd floor had bare flooring, & where there are tiles, there were broken tiles every now & then. The cubicles were made out of painted plywood, & the workmanship was generally poor. The signs were either printed on bond paper, or handwritten, then taped using Packing / Cellophane / Masking tape, making them look very untidy & makeshift.

    * One of the employees I asked, an old lady, was courteous, but another employee was borderline hostile. I even saw one employee answer back in a rude manner at another customer. Most (not all) of the people tasked to directing the human traffic were rude, constantly berating their people in the lines for not being able to read their minds & know what they wanted.

    * There was an instruction on how to go about getting your clearance, but it was not in a place where you can easily see it when you first go in. There were no instructions posted on how to renew your clearance, you end up asking about it from the people around you.

    * The process stations, or flow between the stations, was not smooth, as you sometimes end up cutting accross the other lines. This leads to a bit of confusion, as well as some inconveniences.

    * I can't understand why they need to put specifically the purpose of getting the Clearance, except that it is an attempt to generate more income for the NBI. By making the purpose of each Clearance SPECIFIC, you end up going out & applying for a new Clearance every time you need it for something else. The lines might be relatively quick, but it still does take some time because of the long lines of people, not to mention the additional costs of getting one.

    * That area in Avenida was just downright seedy. When I got out of the building, a dark skinned, middle aged man in shorts, sando & slippers siddled up to me, & opened his palm, showing a beautiful gold Pendant & Necklace. He was offering it to me, & probably snatched from someone. How do I know? Because he told me. He said, "Boss, kwintas .... snatched". I declined, of course. He even had a bodyguard trailing him, probably in case I turn out to be the person where that necklace was snatched from.

    'The Positives'

    * The only positive thing about the building, was that you get to do the whole process in airconditioned comfort. At least you're safe from the heat when you're standing in line, waiting for your turn.

    * The whole process took me no more than 30 minutes from the time I entered the premises, to the time I got out. The whole process consisted of 4 stations, & I estimate it took me no more than 30 secs. at most at each station, w/ the rest of the time spent standing in line. Which shows just how many people were there forming those lines.

    * The fact that the critical process themselves were computerized helped a lot in terms of speedying up the process. They were able to make search their database, make changes, take the latest picture, & print out the clearance very quickly.

    * The requirement for the latest picture also enhanced the security of the clearance as you need to be physically present when getting it. You can't have somebody do it for you, or just submit a photo.

    'Overall'

    * I came away w/ mixed feelings about the whole process. On one hand, I admire the fact that the whole Clearance Renewal process was very fast, considering the volume of people that they were processing. On the other hand, the dilapidated facilities, lack of instructions, generally rude personnel was very demoralizing, to say the least.

    * Makes you kind of wonder where all those P20 fee they charge goes to, after seeing their pathetic facilities. True, they have bills to pay also, but judging by the volume of people going to get or renew their clearances, they should have more than enough to improve the facilities.

    * Is this the best the NBI can do, a COMPROMISE? Fast service, but w/ a lot of hassles (i.e., poor facilities, additional red tape, etc.) in between? (Shakes head).

    What time does this open?

30 mins, 1 day, huh? No need to go back next day? Cool... doesn't sound so bad.

Anyone have an experience using the one in Glorieta Park Square one, though?

    ^^^
    Probably opens around 8-9 am.

The one in Glorietta Park Square 1 is only for RENEWALS, meaning if your current NBI Clearance expires, and you need to renew it, you can go there. Also relatively fast, though the lines can sometimes be long.

If you need to get a new type of clearance, or a new clearance, you still have to go to the main office.

    From SM Megamall signage:

    Step 1. Payment
    Step 2. Kodakan
    Step 3. Release

Bring ORIGINAL NBI Clearance with BARCODE. Xerox not accepted. No corrections processed. If you need corrections, go to CARRIEDO.

Will go to Glorieta later at 10am for renewal.

p.s. You need NBI CLEARANCE to get BARANGGAY CLEARANCE (and most likely to get POLICE Clearance too).

POLICE CLEARANCE (Makati) - Southern Police District beside Makati Firestation Ayala cor. Buendia.

I think that the process of getting an NBI clearance has at least been made more convenient, even if there is still much room for improvement. The NBI has kiosks in other areas in Metro Manila for the convenience of those renewing their clearances.

One can also authorize a relative to secure the renewal of one's clearance. You just need an authorization letter, your personal copy of your previous clearance and your latest 2x2 picture.

Areas that need further improvement are as suggested above by rhk111. I also do not know the why they need to specify the purpose for getting the clearance, since the very purpose of the NBI clearance itself is to prove that you have no criminal records irrespective of whether you need it for employment, travel, etc. Having to specify the purpose is IMO an unnecessary inconvenience.

I also think that the process can be made simpler by reducing the number of redundant stations that clients have to line up for, like having data check and quick search in just one station instead of two. This will considerably reduce the inconvenience of customers having to move from one line to another for each simple process.

The extra fees should also be strictly prohibited and the prohibition strictly implemented. Examples of extra fees are those they charge for the stub for all applicants, and you even have to shell out P5 for the tissue paper at the fingerprinting table whether you like it or not. All that customers should be paying for is the clearance fee, which is already a considerable amount, at P115.

Lastly, I also think something should be done about the rude employees at NBI. They should realize that they are there to serve the public and that they owe their jobs to the customers.

Oh crap. I got a HIT.

From what I heard, not sure if this is true, but if your name for example, is Juan De La Cruz Cruise they do a search for

    Juan - hits?
Juan De la Cruz - hits?
Juan De la Cruz Cruise - hits?

Parang if you register ANY hits, that's still a hit, and they send you to... Carredo.

    Sheeeeeeet.

Ok granted there are many Juans.
As there are many Juan de la Cruz's.
Maybe even many Juan de la Cruz Cruises!

But on your previous NBI Record, you are given a UNIQUE NBI ID#!

No matter what ALL YOUR OTHER NAMESAKE's DID, for as long as your unique identifier doesnt get trashed, renewal should be just that... a 30 min renewal.

Which it would have been in Park Square if I hadn't been hit!

So I guess I'm now a permanent hit from now on.

    Always Carredo.

Which takes 3 days to process.

    Sigh.

    Oh well!

Not to mention the sheer volume of people, and all the snaking around! All the lines of steps 3,4,5,6 are pretty much mixed up.

Lets hope they stick to their June 25 that is stamped at the back of my receipt, coz the last time i remember they said "Try again next week.." even though their own stamp said it was due that day..

^ So there's merit in having unique names. Rolex Suplico's parents are now justified for naming him so.

I came, I gave my stamped ticket, I waited a few seconds for the printout, I got my thumb print, I left!

Finally I am in the clear.

But in the future, it's still going to be Carredo.

Somebody should clear my name.. permanently!

for those renewing and applying for the first time please get an NBI clearance renewal card. it will make renewal easier even if you have a "kapangalan" or namesake.

also, for those in the Marikina, San Mateo, Montalban, and nearby areas please be informed that the NBI Marikina Satellite Office at Riverbanks Center has been open since last year to accommodate clearances for local employment and overseas travel.

renewals, new applications and clearance renewal cards are accepted. for those with namesake, clearances will be released after 7 working days upon application.

^Yes, there is already an NBI renewal card. Mas madali nang mag-renew kahit may kapangalan ka. That is, unless may bagong kaso yung kapangalan mo the next year, in which case you still have to go to Carriedo. Otherwise, pwede ka nang mag-renew yearly at the kiosks.

  13. #13
Ahhh good. I was wondering about that, but was thinking it may still be subject to the same problems as the old system so it would have been pretty useless.

Now hopefully i don't switch jobs next year

yang hit na yan.. bwisit yan sa buhay...

ganito ang nangyari sakin before. I applied for an NBI clearance mga January for passport purposes...and then I changed jobs in February so I have to apply again since the copy has been submitted to DFA.. aba, ayaw sakin ibigay ang NBI clearance ko kasi HIT daw.

Meron ding NBI kiosk dito. Convenient ito para sa mga kukuha ng NBI clearance within the nearby area.

There's a satellite office in Tutuban as well. It's P120, but in the receipt it's only P115.
