Sky Cable buys Destiny Cable’s assets
05/11/2012
MANILA, Philippines - Three companies, including Destiny Cable, have agreed sell their cable TV and broadband internet assets and subscribers to the Lopez-owned Sky Cable Corp. (SKY).
Destiny Cable Inc. (DCI), Solid Broadband Corporation (SBC), and Uni-Cable TV Inc. (UNI) said they "have recently forged an agreement" with SKY "to further improve the services provided to their Destiny cable television and MyDestiny broadband internet subscribers."
A statement on the deal released Friday said “the agreement entails the sale of the cable TV and broadband internet assets and subscribers of DCI, SBC, and UNI to SKY.”
“The pay TV and broadband markets require continuous significant investments, if we are to keep up with our major competitors, particularly the direct-to-home satellite (DTH) and telco companies,” said David Lim, president of DCI, SBC, and UNI.
Lim said the agreement was reached order to give their Destiny Cable and MyDestiny broadband subscribers “the best products and services possible.”
To do this, Lim said they “realized that this will entail resources, for digitizing our cable network and expanding our broadband services, that we do not have.”
“We believe our agreement with SKY will allow subscribers to enjoy the benefits of the latest technologies," Lim said.
SKY Chief Operating Officer Rodrigo P. Montinola, meantime, said, “We are happy with the opportunity to extend the unique advantages of the digital cable TV and cable broadband internet platforms to Destiny and MyDestiny subscribers.”
He said SKY “will take extra care not to disrupt the existing services of the current subscribers – they will continue to pay same monthly fees for their subscribed plans, at the same payment centers, and can continue to reach Customer Service at the same numbers. We will make announcements on new services to be made available, at the appropriate time.”
Lim said the deal will allow their holding company, Solid Group Inc., to focus on selling its mobile phone brand, MyPhone.
“Our tie up with SKY came at an opportune time as it allows us to focus on our other core businesses. Our holding company Solid Group Inc (SGI), markets and distributes the leading Filipino mobile phone brand MyPhone," he said.
ABS-CBN Corp.'s Sky Cable is the Philippines’ largest cable television service provider with around 500,000 upscale subscribers in Metro Manila and key urban areas nationwide.

There you go - Sky now owns Destiny Cable.
Skycable is a monopoly now.
Yari tayo mga customer - don't expect service to get better or cheaper. Malaki ang chance na magbawas sila ng programs at magtaas ng fee.
They give me one reason and I will disconnect pronto.
Will Destiny air some of the Sky channels?
Guys, rather than rant about it here, try to write directly to the officials of Sky Cable and make our reactions known. If we are silent and not directly complain to them, they will never know our reactions, and would go ahead with their plans. On my part, I have already written via e-mail through Sky Cable Telesales addressed to Mr. Montinola this morning. Thanks.
Guys, I have just touched base with Global Destiny's marketing official. Everything will be as it is for now. If you want Global Destiny's service to remain as it is under Sky's management, you must write to them or to Sky through e-mail or through written snail mail. Mas maganda if you will physically send a letter to them with your signature and your account number. Thanks again.
Asan na si Pikon Aka Boogiemeow. Ito ba ang malaking announcement, hahaha.

Will Myx, ANC and other Sky channels be aired on Destiny now that they are under the same owner? Pls reply
Wala pang balita po. I am not an insider at Destiny Cable and even I myself is clueless. Don't get so anxious about it. I'd suppose it would come. Some options I'll be foreseeing here are:
Scenario#1 - They will offer Destiny subscribers a package where the Sky channels will be available, while keeping the channel lineup under Destiny Cable in status quo. (Chances that this will happen is 95% at the moment.)
Scenario#2 - General re-alignment of channel lineup and a 100% shift to digitalization for Destiny Cable subscribers, just like what they did to Home Cable. (Chances that this will happen will just be 5% at this moment. The new management will have to consider a group of die hard Chinese channel followers who may oppose this move because they might lose the channels they love.)
In the meantime, if you are a Destiny Cable subscriber, you can write a letter to its new management so that they will know your feedback about the management change at Destiny Cable Inc.. Don't fall for discouraging statements here. Don't stop letting them know until they know it themselves.
FYI: The main office of Destiny Cable Inc. has moved to:
Reliance Center#1
#99 E. Rodriguez Jr. Ave. (C-5) Barangay Ugong, Pasig City
not affiliated na po since last year ang Global cable at G-Sat sa Global Destiny
Actually, mahirap madetermine kung yun na yun eh. As Global Cable was incorporated into Destiny Cable back in 2003, lahat ng infrastructure nila ay pinapalipat na sa mga linya ng Destiny Cable. In my case, I also subscribed to Global Cable back in 2003 when its lines reached our place, and as soon as the company was absorbed by Destiny Cable, my connection is also transferred to Destiny's cable lines as well. Yung headend ng Global Cable sa Makati, matagal na siya nabuwag, and since last year, nag-resign na ang kanilang big boss na si Philip Chien sa Destiny Cable management. The distinction is no longer there.
So medyo nagagamba ako when I heard this news last Saturday, and am still praying that what Mr. Montinola of Sky Cable mentioned in the news item will be upheld and respected. So, just to be sure, sinulatan ko na si Mr. David Lim of Destiny Cable and I did the same to Mr. Montinola of Sky Cable, para alam nila yung sentimiento ng mga Destiny subscribers, and to let them know that most of Destiny's subscribers do not actually like Sky Cable's services.
Perhaps by the end of the year na lang tayo malalaman if Sky is serious about keeping Destiny's programs and channels as is. At present I will give them the benefit of the doubt.
