Home Cable used to be a competitor. i remember it used to be just 300 a month or something cheap like that. and we got HBO. lol. while sky only had hbo on the expensive package.

Does anyone here work for Destiny or knows someone in Destiny? Please suggest adding more movie channels. Since they already have HBO, why not add the other HBO movie channels?

I don't think that will happen in th near future. Global Destiny is now managed by a Taiwanese by the name of Mr. Philip Chien. He is not inclined to adding additional English movie channels. He is now concentrating on a different market so that their cable company will not get the ire of Sky Cable.

Since 2001, they have been unconsciously drawn into Sky's scheme of things when STAR pulled out of Sky but retains its channels at Destiny. Because Destiny used that to publicize their presence and add more subscribers, Sky's greed hit back at them the following year, and as a result, they lost the premium STAR channels and were left with only the minor ones, such as Channel V.

Since the STAR fiasco, David Lim, who used to directly handle the affairs at Destiny, went to Philip Chien of Global Cable, and this partnership had since kept Global Destiny Cable relatively free from Sky's sometimes high profile controversial ways of shaking up the local cable TV industry. They finally saw a stable market in their Japanese, Korean and Chinese viewers, and focused on this segment of the market. Subscribers who are after English cable channels were now just relegated to the secondary market for Global Destiny's head honchos.

edching ano-ano *** nasa premium channels ng destiny?

the Solar controversy makes Destiny viable for the English program market. They should take advantage of that.

sino naka global premium na taga qc? may wowow ba sa premium?

2003-2005 was Global Destiny's best years. They had WOWOW, KSBN Cinema, NBA League Pass (which was free for like months), Videoland Sports, the M-net channels, and BS-1. None of these channels are there anymore. But for just over 300 bux a month, I don't think you can get a better value especially with news about the influx of newer (and returning) channels looming on the horizon.

They used to; it's one of the reasons why I subscribed to their premium service back in October of 2005. It was originally a free channel but I guess they had to move it to premium and avoid the inevitable backlash from MTRCB watchdogs since they can't really second-guess sex and violence from WOWOW's unpredictable rotation. Watching WOWOW there was equivalent to that of an HDTV broadcast. But a month after that, WOWOW blacklisted the Philippines (Sky allegedly snitched that a lot of cable operators were pirating their signal, forgot the details) and Global Destiny was forced to drop them. There's still some provincial cable providers that carry the channel illegally though.

That said, there's no reason to subscribe to premium unless you absolutely must have ESPN and Star Sports because BTV will be a "normal" channel in November anyway and I doubt you care about Bollywood and guys in Cheongsam flying from bamboo to bamboo. Also be advised that a cable box is 1:1 - you can only use it on one TV. You can't hook it up on your PC to capture TV shows either. Yep, it sucks.

Global Destiny Cable set to go public in 2010

GLOBAL Destiny Cable Inc., the Philippines’ third-largest cable company, plans to sell shares to the public in three years’ time, the company president said.

In an interview, Philip Jean Chien, Global Destiny president and chief executive, said his company plans to list in the Philippine Stock Exchange by 2010.

Chien said the company’s timetable for an initial public offering is three years from now. “I really wanted to issue shares to the public, but right now nobody will buy stocks because of the environment we have,” he said, adding the proceeds of the IPO will be used for expansion.

The company initially infused P200-million capital in 2004 for the expansion projects, which are expected to be completed next year. So far, the company has spent P100 million.

The company is valued at about P2 billion as of last year, Chien disclosed, adding it posted reasonable profits last year but failed to give figures.

Chien said the cable industry in other countries are profitable because they don’t have the problem of illegal connections that beset cable companies here.

He estimated that the company loses about P50 million a year owing to illegal cable connections in Metro Manila.

global destiny has, to my knowledge, no intention to add that much movie, or channels, for that matter because they will have to increase their monthy subscription fees. which is not something they want to do.
regarding skycable owning global destiny... dont bet on it. skycable tried to merge with destiny before during their merger with home cable. destiny declined the offer. good thing too. look at home cable now. its non existent. manny v pangilinan was robbed of his cable company by skycable.
