popular? well, i don't know about that. mas nangunguna ang majority ng courses sa UPD, syempre, 1st yun na-establish eh. pero ang IRRI nasa UPLB.

sa surroundings, definitely mas maganda ang UPLB. mas malinis, mas maraming trees and flowers, and mas magaganda ang mga daan. examples of prime UPLB spots: Carillon, Fertility Tree, Botanical Gardens, etc.

kung sa courses, they say lamang talaga ang UPLB sa Agri and Chem.

both of them! both of the two campuses have their own specialties, UPD for the arts and communication while UPLB in math, sciences ang engineering!

pero dahil i'm from UPLB, cyempre da best UPLB hehe...dami pang gwapo dito lalo na sa college of economics!ü

i think UPLB is more popular than UPD outside of the philippines but the UPD students are smarter. than UPLB students.

Well...

Hands down, when it comes to the arts and social sciences, diliman is the university to beat.

When it comes to science and math, diliman has the NIP, and several more departments that are considered Center for Excellence.

Perhaps the sciences that you are talking about is for agricultural science.

I also think that UPD is more popular outside the country. Practically, its the only known Philippine university abroad. NASA has physicists who graduated in UPD, ADB has economicts who are from UPD, World Bank have people from UPD.

I would imagine because the highest count of PhD grads come from UPD

UPD and UPLB are treated or perceived as one entity by outsiders: UP. So patas lang. UP pa rin yan ke Dil o LB. Tayo lang naman gumagawa ng comparison.

When you are abroad, people wouldn't even know that there are several campuses of UP. If you'll tell them you're from UP in Diliman campus, that wouldn't create an additional impact as to someone who does say, he's only from LB.

UP is not as popular as the University of California system where in the whole world knows that CAL, Berkeley is a better campus to San Diego or the rest of the campuses of the UC system.

Don't you know that the University of Tokyo has 3 campuses?

A real university is one that produces new knowledge, not just imparting them through INSTRUCTION... that means RESEARCH guys! On that count UPLB tops UPD. UPLB has proportionately more PhDs than Dil and definitely produces more world class researches acknowledged all over the world.

And then... there's EXTENSION... UPLB again tops Dil. UPLB has more extensive extension program all over the country.

But who knows about this? Only those in the Academic community. Ateneo and DLSU looks up to UPLB because of its strong Instruction, Research and Extension programs, not UPD.

But then, UP Diliman is more popular among Pinoys.
