    PBA Salary Cap

The PBA salary cap is now pegged at 35 million per team per season –equivalent to roughly 2.9 million a month.

I know this is pointless since the pba could care less if teams exceed the salary cap. But let’s just breakdown each team’s total salaries nonetheless just for discussion's sake.

*These are declared salaries excluding under the table salaries of marquee players.

*I’m also throwing to the garbage what some teams say what some of it’s players are making -like mamaril 150?? Reavis 200?? Yeah right.

*Some players’ salaries which I’m uncertain of I’ll just make a reasonable guess in proximity w/ their skill level.

    SMB

    Seigle 350
    Ildefonso 350
    Pena 300 (or 350?)
    Hontiveros 350
    E.vil 350
    Racela 350
    Tugade 300
    Gonzales 200
    Wilson 200
    Tenorio 225
    Calaguio 250
Fonacier 350 (to be signed; don’t believe press releases he’ll be signed for less)
Espinas 225 (could be traded for telan who makes max money which would bump smb’s total to over 4 million a month)
*Rookie draftees (JC Intal?) 150 –rookie scale pay

    Approximate total: 3.950 million x 12 months = 47.4 million

*Adding the UTT deals of Seigle and Ildefonso who makes 500k(or over) would easily put smb's salary total to over 50 million.

    Ginebra

    Caguioa 350
    Helterbrand 350
    Menk 350
    Reavis 350
    Mamaril 300
    Seigle 300?
    Macapagal 150
    Santos 200
    Tubid 200
    Hatfield 350
    Salvacion 250
    Echavez 100
    Chia 100
    Abbarientos 200
    Hubalde 150

    Apprx. Total: 3.70 million x 12 = 44.4 million

    Talk and Text

    Taulava 350
    Alapag 350
    Carey 300
    Cardona 350
    Washington 350
    De Ocampo 350
    Ritualo 350
    Belano 200
    Allado 350
    Pablo 200
    Billones 150
    Fran 200

    Apprx. Total: 3.5 million x 12 = 42 million

A player's salary only counts to the team cap if he is on the active roster. If he's out with an injury, it doesn't count. If he's out playing for the national team, it doesn't count.

Okay ka lang bro? Are you on crack or something? No, not that. Coke makes ur brain more active. 'Shrooms maybe that u've been halucinating too much?

Any player on the roster and his salary counts on the cap -even if he's on the reserve list.

    Steady,

Neth is actually correct. As per PBA rules dealing with the PBA salary cap, anyone on the injury list or is playing for the national team is not included in the cap. That's why if a Danny Seigle and Dondon Hontiveros are absent because of their commitments in the national team, they can actually sign up two free agents and offer as much as the maximum salary for each in lieu of the two national players.

However, the new PBA rule states that the salary cap is now P32M, up from the previous P30M. This is to accommodate two extra players on the roster. There shall be 14 players total in a team's roster but only 12 can play in a game. If a player gets injured, he would still be part of the P32M cap unless he is waived to free agency.

    Okay, my bad then.

    Kids, do drugs. =)

But now the beijing dream is over and we're back to the realities of the pba, w/ nat'l players going back to their mother ballclubs, that's the salary cap situation we're looking at.

For me, kalokohan yang salary cap na yan. Sorry guys... Pero hindi ako naniniwala sa salary cap na yan. Good example, Danny Seigle and Yancy De Ocampo. Same 350k/month. C'mon!!! Eto na lang, same team... Taulava, Allado and De Ocampo. 350k a month sila. Can you imagine that Taulava and De Ocampo have the same salary. Eh 2nd stringer *** si De Ocampo. Think of it...

Those are just ‘declared salaries’. No one really believes those figures anyways. Obviously marquee players like asi, seigle make more.

Rudy hatfield even said on tv that asi makes 1m a month. Not too unbelievable. We’re talking manny pangilinan here.

    Seigle is making 500k upwards.

But kalokohan nga the salary cap. The pba should just scrap it if it’s not being followed. Or follow the nba wherein a team pays a buck for every buck that’s over the salary cap. But that wouldn’t matter much really to teams like smc and tnt.

My thing lang is that I hope some media outlet releases the actual salary figures of each team just for the public’s knowledge. Obviously the pba won’t do it.

Seigle earns 1m a month. Kaya sinasabi kong kalokohan yan.

Pena, Hontiveros, Fonacier & Racela doesnt receive the maximum monthly salary.

    Ildefonso , Seigle, Enrico does!

Wilson & Wesley is in the P150K range. Especially Wilson who was just a free agent pick up last year.

Calaguio is in the P200K range because he agreed for a pay cut when SMB acquired him from Shell because the team will exceed salary cap. The fact that Calaguio & SMB made that arrangement is a testament that the teams & the PBA monitored the Salary Cap of all the teams, otherwise, they will just honor the contract from Shell.

We may have our own computations, Speculations & Assumptions, but still, its Purely Assumptions. The PBA as a Professional league composed of representatives from all 10 teams as Board Members will not allow such violations to happen.

If we, the fans, spectators, assumes that there were teams violating the Salary cap, isn't it too shallow to think that those Board Representatives, themselves involved inside the PBA(making these Rule) doesnt realize that?

How can those teams like Air21, Red Bull, Coke, Welcoat whom we perceived to be Below the salary cap & in all honesty doesnt seems to violate the Rule as we all assumes will not make a HOWL over what we said to be an obvious Salary Cap violations?

Before they agreed on the new Salary Cap ceiling, all Team representatives will vote for it, with regards to how much it should be. Of course, each one will vote or recommend the amount they know their teams would be spending based on their payrolls.

Kayang-kaya naman ng san miguel iyan hehe, billions of pesos ang budget for advertisement and promotion ng products nila...eh parang for promotion at advertisement lang din ang dahilan kaya may team sila sa pba so...might as well win a lot...

  18. #18
Fonacier does receive the 350K max salary. It was the same amount offered to him by RB but he wouldn't take it coz he want to play with SMB.

  19. #19
Absurb talaga mga contracts sa PBA...max salary is 350K di ba? parang kahit sino puede makakuha ng max...I just read Nick Belasco getting the max salary from Welcoat ata...max salary are supposed to be for franchise players..Belasco is an aging role player...you won't see a Dennis Rodman getting the same salary as Jordan in the NBA
