    Change the PBA logo already!!

    http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h26/Steady69/__2930910628.jpg

    It's seriously extremely hideous!

    Doesn't the pba realize it??

I know the pba asked fans to design the logo years ago but seriously, that was the best among the entries? It's ridiculously ugly. U can't ask an amateur to do a professional's job.

It's like a stupid knockoff of the nba's logo.

    Change it already!

    @Steady

While I respect your opinion both here and in MyPBA, I think the desire to change the PBA logo is somewhat flawed.

One thing about the PBA logo is that its not flashy which evokes an image of permanence. Imagine the PBA logo in 1990, in 2000, in 2007 and even up to five years from now, and it still may not look flashy but it still is simply effective. Similar to the NBA's logo which was created in the late 60s or early 70s, the design is still relevant despite the years.

On the other hand, having a flashy logo means it could become outdated in a few years necessitating another change. Because a flashy logo is like fashion, what looks good today, doesn't look good in a few year's time. And that's the advantage of simplicity over flash and dazzle.

U have a point kobe, but it's too still ugly for my liking. Maybe it can just be modified a bit. Like probably change the appearance of the guy dribbling the ball. It looks like jinggoy estrada running the break! Just smoothen out the rough edges a little.

i still like the older logo..

Well maybe you just don't like Jaworski?

Anyone here has a picture of the old logo?

I remember when this new one came out I kinda said to myself the the older one looked much better...Oh well...

This was a source of discussion in the other forum - the personality behind the logo.

In the first few years of the league, I remember the logo of two players - one going up for a layup while the other trying to block his shot. While there might not have been players in particular being used as benchmark here, my opinion is that it closely resembled Ramon Fernandez (offensive player) and Phillip Cezar (defending player) most.

The league changed its logo sometime in the 80's - somewhat similar to the present logo except for the fonts. In that image, it was undoubtedly Robert Jaworski that was used as the model here and even the PBA actually revealed the Big J as the basis for this.

In the 90's, the logo gave way to another one, this time closely resembling Johnny Abarrientos. It eventually evolved once more to the present one by changing the font of the PBA. I'm not sure if the image of the player was retained but I believe it wasn't changed.

Hence, I'm opining that the existing logo used Johnny Abarrientos as its model here, not Robert Jaworski...

Stick to the one we have na lang. It might be ugly, but it's simple. The logo we have now is a classic basketball stance, and this will stand the test of time. Ok sana yung logo mo tsong, kaso sobra namang flashy. Sorry, baka maasar ka! Opinion lang.

I worked for PBA for 2 years (2004-06) as their graphic artist. Yup, kahit sino naman masasabi pareho ng style yung PBA at NBA logo. That clearly shows masyado tayong influenced ng NBA basketball noon pa. I firmly believe na yan na yung PBA logo hanggang sa tumanda tayo, Kung papalitan man yan... Siguro dahil sa nagpalit na ng logo ang NBA.

Anyway ito yung 2 classic logos - I recreated these logos, nung time na mag 30th Anniv ang PBA, I placed them on Legends & Greats Jersey instead of the existing PBA logo for the PBA Greatest Game.

I favor the first one. Mas may Filipino flavor for me. But that's just me...

Who knows, maybe the PBA can revive this someday. Sort of like a back to basics theme. After all, the mid to late-70s was the golden age of the PBA, right?

maganda yung 70's na pba logo. Classic ang dating.

  19. #18
ang ganda nga nung 70s-80s na logo! habaan lang yung shorts nung nagbabasketball hehe.

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2333/picture1vt4.jpgLooks like Philip Cezar trying to block Manny Paner or is it Yoyong Martirez?

That was my first impression too with the 70's logo. Maganda sya, but too retro for PBA to use this on this era. Anyway PBA properties or Accel can make some merch for these retro logos. Kulang lang talaga sila sa diskarte. It would be nice to have retro jerseys, shirts, etc.
