Hmmm...not so sure about Perry Ronquillo although he was once an assistant of Chito Narvasa at Shell. But I'm almost very sure that Ronquillo was already brilliant at that time.

He was then head coach of Burger Machine in the PBL in the mid-90's. Since he was formerly from DLSU, I won't be surprised if he learned some of his tricks from Virgil Villlavicencio, Tito Eduque or anyone who once was associated with the DLSU community in the mid to late 80's.

Nat Canson used to be with Toyota and probably learned more from the likes of Dante Silverio and before him, Nilo Verona...

Some other coaches back then: Jing Aldanese of Great Taste, Ignacio "Ning" Ramos of San Miguel, Loreto "Bonnie" Carbonell of Tanduay / U/Tex, and Caloy Loyzaga of U/Tex...

Naging coach sya kasi kinuha sya para maging coach!

I think, pinalitan nya si Turo Valenzona when the Turing left for Tanduay. Then Jawo was promoted as playing-coach? Tama ba Pareng JPM?

Since Koy was metioned in the coke thread I wonder who served as Koy's mentor before he became a full time coach and appear to grow a branch of his own.

    Tito Reighun,

Robert Jaworski was already assisting Dante Silverio as coach of the Toyota franchise back in the 70's and early 80's. As a matter of fact, there were occasions when the Big J took over the coaching chores from Silverio whenever the latter couldn't make it or if he gets ejected from the game. In 1980, when Fort Acuña was fired during halftime of Game 3 of the Crispa-Toyota AFC finals, it was officially declared that then team manager Pablo Carlos took over the coaching mantle. In reality, it was actually Jaworski who ran things at the bench. Note that Acuña's dismissal was triggered by his refusal to field in the Big J in the first half. Acuña ignored Carlos' questions at least three times during the game until the latter decided to fire him on the spot...

When Toyota disbanded, Honeyboy Palanca of La Tondeña decided to bring Jaworski and Arnaiz in his team. However, Jaworski and Valenzona had their differences during the entire 1984 season and eventually, Valenzona was eased out to give way to Jaworski running the team. Along with Valenzona, players like Gary Vargas, Willie Generalao, Rey Perez and other stalwarts left the team as the Big J rebuilt the team to his liking. Hence, players like the Loyzaga brothers, Terry Saldaña, Cayetano Salazar among others joined the Ginebra franchise...

P're, tama naman sagot ko ah? Short-cut nga lang while JPM was more detailed.

Pero, I was right, na Jawo only became playing-coach when Turo Valenzona move to Tanduay, diba?

    ^^^^^^^^

Haha!

A slight feud ensued between the two protagonists which spilled over when Ginebra and Tanduay had their own rivalry from 1985 to 1987, with Ramon Fernandez, Jaworski's erstwhile arch rival, joining Valenzona's forces at the Elizalde franchise...

And yes, since Altamirano is a Jacobs' protege, you may qualify Gregorio as a "grandson."

    On Chot Reyes,

Don't forget Chito Narvasa, who was then Chot's assistant at Purefoods before he took over Shell in 1995.

Well, here's Chito Narvasa's coaching family....
