Malacanang expressed appreciation today over the Asian Development Bank’s projection of a "positive growth track" for the Philippines, even as it stressed that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s "8 by 08" social payback agenda would further grow the country’s economy.

The Manila-based multi-lateral lender stated in its Asian Development Outlook 2007 that a key challenge for the Philippines is to move for a higher growth trajectory and create more stable, high-paying jobs.

"We take note of the ADB observation on the specter of unemployment and underemployment, and we are putting our 8 by 08 social payback drive to pull in more investments and create well-paying, stable jobs," Press Secretary and concurrent Presidential Spokesperson Ignacio R. Bunye said.

The President’s "8 by 08" agenda include projects and programs designed to attract more investors through the development of the country’s five super regions by investing in needed infrastructure, education and health facilities.

With the development of adequate infrastructure and related facilities, it is expected that these regions will be more attractive to investors and thus spur development in the entire country.

Bunye said that although the government’s economic growth projections of 6.1 to 6.7 percent for this year are "higher" than ADB’s 5.4 percent, both share a "common confidence in the Philippines’ ability to grow on the back of a strong and steady economic reform agenda."

He stressed that President Arroyo remains focused on further growing the economy, sustaining political stability and increasing the social dividends of growth as the world "continues to be upbeat on the Philippines."

Bunye added that the upcoming May 14 elections would boost the international financial community’s confidence on the Philippines to "new heights" and that "growth will follow the trend."

The ADB has projected that the Philippine economy is likely to grow this year at the same pace as in 2006. Last year’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 5.4 percent.

The five super regions are the North Luzon Agribusiness Quadrangle, the Metro Urban Beltway, Central Philippines as the Tourism Center, Mindanao as the Agribusiness Center in the South and the Cyber Corridor that cuts across the four other super regions.

I've seen this ad on TV. In fairness to this administration, it continues to innovate and provide new goals and plans for the people each year. With such list, I'd like to say they are achievable by 2008. If only there will be less political mockery, then it will help.

It will be better if instead of politicking, they will just cooperate to achieve these goals. After all, these are for the benefit of the people.

So far, only numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 , 7 and 8 have some progress...especially numbers 1 and 3.

no. 1- ang daming unemploy na pilipino ngayon at walang opportunity sa mga new graduates.
no. 2- sa taas ng bilihin ngayon hirap ang ordinaryong pinoy especially ang pesante at manggagawa na maka c0pe-up sa buhay.
n0. 3- hanggang propaganda lang ang paglaks diumano ng piso. pero di ramdam ng nakararaming pinoy. actually ang depreciation ng piso ang ramdam natin.

no. 5- ang liit ng budget sa education..... ang UP na pipinagpipitagan nating paaralan ay nag-increase ng 300% sa matrikula. di natin maitatanggi na ang karamihan sa universities noong nakaraan ay tumaas ang matrikula.
no. 6- healthcare pumunta ka sa PGH at orthopedic para malaman mo ang sitwasyon ng mga kababayan natin na may sakit. ilan na bang kabahayan ang dinemolis sa ilalim ng regime ni gloria. at food ba kamo.... panoorin nyo na lang *** isang episode ng correspondent na may title na kagutuman... sa ormoc, leyte nababaliw ang mga pinoy dahil walang makain kahit sila ang nagpapakahirap sa pagbubungkal ng lupa. feudalism ang tawag dun!

On no. 5-pro-poor education , as far as I know, there is the ladderized education run by TESDA. Then there's the Peoples Education Placement Test, which allows those who had some elementary and high school education to go back to school. This must be the one which Manny Pacquiao took.

On no 6. for public healthcare,there's the Botika ng Bayan. (This one is open to private business. The sister-in-law of my friend just opened one). We also see the DOH announcing from time to time "Patak" or free immunization of infants/kids

For housing, Pag-Ibig has been lowering the housing loan rates. Under the VP de Castro are housing programs.

For food, I hear about rolling stores but I've not seen one.

Still, many are poor. A lot more have to be done.

Matagal nga lang nakatapos pero maganda naman ang estado ngayon. May Vios at bahay sa Dasmariñas Cavite. Lumulusong sa baha. Naglalakad sa init at ulan. Sumasabit sa jeep. Walang alak, walang sigarilyo. Nagtitipid ng kinikita para pambayad sa tuition fees, pambili ng libro.

Ang pananaw kasi ng iba dito, kahit nakatunganga lang sila ay dapat matupad ang mga nakasaad sa programang yan. -Oh really? Hmm...try getting a job at a call center...trust me, there's room there for a job but you gotta have the skills. There are a lot of oppurtunities here but many prefer to work abroad and to earn more dollars. There's a lot of new graduates, 1 million every year unemployment is low...at 7%...that's quite good compared to the 11% just 5 years ago.

-Blame it on the Iraq War. With that war, prices everywhere have increased. Heck, our oil price is one of the cheapest in Southeast Asia. GMA is doing her job of improving the economy...it's your part that you must do.

-it's not entirely GMA's fault. Blame selfish land owners like Cory Aquino or blame the doctors for not fulfilling the Hipocratic Oath. As what Godfather had said, GMA's cheating has destroyed her reputation...then so will the doctor's reputation when they do not help the poor.
Actually, GMA approved the law that allows people with no money to go out of the hospital only with an IOU note. Dont blame anything bad happening in this country to GMA. We all have a part to play.

-Uhh, Migz Zubiri made the Biofuel Act. It's not only in the Philippines that experiences pollution. Even Hong Kong is worse than Manila when it comes to air pollution. We're actually one of the pioneers in biofuels and soon, hopefully, we can export our own biofuels.

I feel pity to the poorly equipped AFP for fighting a war the enemy cannot win. I really wish the budget for the AFP would increase. THe US trained our soldiers and without them, we would have had a harder time fighting those terrorists.
