Ruben Dela Rosa throwing mineral water bottles back to the SBC crowd. SBC-MIT game back in 94 or 95. SBC crowd were shouting "CO-NGO" and "DI-LA-RUSA" everytime he touches the ball or hangs on to the rim.. There was also a time when there was a storm during the game. The windows on top of the RMC were left open. Just imagine what happened to the crowd on the bleachers section.

    1. My first NCAA opening (think it was 2002)...4 games last game ang Letran vs. Mapua...before that San Beda vs. (forgot the team)

The Letranites, obviously tired of waiting for the game (2pm was the first game), were actually cheering for the Red Lions during their game. After the game we cheered for San Beda after they sang their school hymn...

Then when the players of Letran were coming out of the dug-out, San Beda supporters did not left their seats and instead cheered for us too. Truly a sign of respect for these two schools.

    2. Final Four, we were outside RMC falling in line to wait for the next game, PCU vs. Letran...

People started coming out of the coliseum, so we guessed that the game is over, we heard that San Beda lost. When we saw the red-shirt guys (obviously San Beda)...All the Letranites outside started clapping (seriously, not sarcastic) for them, and we started yelling, "ok lang yan mga 'tol"...then they (San Beda) kept saying "talunin nyo PCU!"...then nagpalakpakan din sila...may mga nag-shake hands pa nga eh...

2 schools, one factor that binds them... SCHOOL SPIRIT (BROTHERHOOD)

-Hi mga Idol. Nice to hear that you guys enjoyed one of the classic games during the 90's. I must say, it was a good game. Both sides played hard to win. Thank you for the memories. Boybits and I drink beer once in awhile here in Davao everytime he comes here to visit. One day, there will be a rematch of these two powerful teams in the finals. I hope we will win when that day comes.

A very sad day for me. Nevertheless, I rebounded and played for RP Team and PBL the following year. Did not last though thanks to the Fil-Am Blue chips applying that time....

If I remember it correctly, Tony was averaging close to 20 points per game and Teddy 10 rebounds. We lost alot coming into the championship match, the press could have been unaware of the extent of the injury of Tony or because they simply loved us.

Before the start of the 1991 championship match, Mapua had the edge over us. We had two heartbreaking losses in the second round and one of them was against the Cardinals. In a finals situation, Mapua was a veteran team simply because they have experience a championship game in 1990. Remember before 1991 and after the resumption of our participation in the NCAA, we did not figure prominently in league. I maybe wrong but I think Lemen was not rookie in 1991 (maybe a Mapua oldie can confirm this) but Ruben de la Rosa was one. Then, the Cardinals have Randy Alcantara and Gary Topacio as their veterans.

    - I believe you have the edge over us mainly because you have a very solid core. It was just the breaks of the game that went in favor to us. Just to confirm, yes I was a sophomore in 1991 same as Ruben. Both of us were a carry over from the Juniors team...

Mismo, I still get goosebumps just by reading this. Talo si Quilban, Alvarez, Django River at Nap Hatton. This was the first of back to back championships for Letran. And didn't win again until 1991 (i think) with Genesis Sasuman.

Maganda kapag nasa bleachers puro paputok at nagpapasahan pa nang Tanduay.

this happened recently, when mancom/policy board, which desperately wants to win games for their respective schools, decided to handicap the defending champion SBC by suspending its players at the start of the season.

i wonder how will the sponsors and the paying fans react to this on opening day?

Lim said the Management Committee went overboard in meting out penalties. “This was a personal thing,” he said. “Why will you apply rules relevant to a game? It wasn’t like a bench-clearing free-for-all because no game was being played. I can understand a ban for something that is premeditated but this fell on my lap while I was eating alone and you just have to do what you have to do. I felt the penalties were too harsh. If you look at the composition of the Management Committee, you’ll notice the representatives are from St. Benilde, Letran, Jose Rizal, Mapua and Perpetual. In my five years with San Beda, we beat Benilde in nine of 10 games, the only exception was when they won a protest because Sam (Ekwe) wore a different uniform but we won that game on the court by about 30 points. In 12 or 13 games, Letran beat us only once. Jose Rizal beat us thrice in 12 games, Mapua twice in 12 games and Perpetual none in 10 games. Did they judge on the basis of if you can’t beat them, ban them?” http://www.philstar.com/thedeanscorn...bcategoryid=69

the day it became a very bias, conspiring & racist league.. win at all cost, if you can't beat them (on court) ban them (off-court) mentality... the crab mentality though started 5 years ago and counting...

Andito pala si idol Winchester Lemen. Much respect! More than the inside plays of Benny Cheng, it was your outside shooting that most Bedans feared during the 1991 finals. Parang, all you need is a first shot then sukat na sukat na ang ring. Pero we had a secret weapon, si Ramil Espina. It was a classic game, either side could have won.

I was there too! At that time parang naging anthem ng Letran ang La Bamba kasi dahil duon sa linyang Arriba, arriba.

Alam namin may pag asa pa kasi no foul situation ang Baste.

Masakit talaga.
