A new CONTROVERSIAL UAAP rule on rookies

seems like the specific target of this new "rule" is Soc Rivera and the UP Fighting Maroons.

    Is this true?

I love it. I always thought higher education was all about making things possible for people. Then here they are taking away people's options.

I think people in the NCAA are jumping up and down now. All of a sudden their talent pool just expanded.

    this one is really anti-UP.

Technically, Soc Rivera is not yet a UP student.

Given this development, he may still change his mind and enroll in another school, i.e., an NCAA school.

dapat ma-repeal ang napaka-unpopular na rule na ito. this rule is a violation of an athlete's right to choose.

Nice one, Monkeynola. Whoo, I can feel eeeeeet. Weeeeeeeeeee. Monkeynola just gave poor Soc Rivera the dilemma of of going to UP and sit out one year or going back to FEU and play this July.

Di hamak naman na mas maganda ang UP as compared to Monkeynola's lair. College education and freedom at its best.

It's up to the UP community to convince him to stay. Unless the "otherwise" will happen. But I guess it will be easy for you guys to convince him when the other choice is... nevermind. Take a hint if you want.

Just tell to him that many are called, but only a few are chosen. Maybe that's enough talk for him to stay.

Talk about discrimination.

    Katchatore: sinabi mo.

UP is UP. it is always a privilege for anyone to be admitted and educated at the University of the Philippines. not everyone in this country is being given the golden opportunity to be educated in and, at the same time, play for UP. sana iyon ang isipin ni Soc Rivera as he is being "played upon" by Anton Montinola and his cohorts within the UAAP board.

this rule HAS to be REPEALED before the Season starts.

Aihihihihihihi. Nananahimik ang lahat at naghahanda para sa nalalapit na season and suddenly for no reason at all gagawa sya ng rule na matindi at walang justification. Vintage Monkeynola. Aihihihihihihi.

sobrang nagtataka ako kung bakit nakalusot ang ganitong rule sa Board. lumalabas tuloy na parang ginapang ni Montinola yung bawat board member para i-approve itong "Soc Rivera rule," which is specifically aimed at Soc Rivera at the UP Fighting Maroons, which got the lion's share of FEU-FERN alumni recruits (Rivera, Dexter Rosales, Mark Lopez and Anthony Paulino).

Montinola is practically depriving the right of UAAP H.S. Grads to choose the school of their choice.

this latest rule is an infringement of the athlete's right to choose. because of the "Rivera Rule," we might see an exodus of UAAP juniors players to NCAA schools so that they would enjoy the privilege of playing for the UAAP school of their choice unlike when they continue to stick with UAAP. we might also see some of our UAAP juniors opting to play with an NCAA team just because the "Rivera Rule" denied them of the right to choose. goodness!

just wondering if those players who will be affected by this rule can file a case in court for TRO?

True. But if the league is found liable, sino pa ang magbabayad niyan kundi yung mga members din -- lalo na yung bumoto to ratify the rule. bwahaha!

    isip....
