Their first 2 games showed how well Fantasy prepared for Flash.
Flash's style usually centers around a great macro game. He just out-mines you, creates an impregnable defense with tanks and turrets and steamrolls you in the end with a push or mass drop play.
How did Fantasy counter this? By exploiting two weaknesses.
1.) In opening up with an econ build (ex. his pet 14cc which he used in both of those games), Flash usually stretches himself thin defensively.
2.) Flash doesn't usually go for air superiority with his mech builds but relies on drops.
[spoiler start]Fantasy countered beautifully by going for air superiority with Wraiths. TvT usually devolve around stalemated tank siege lines and mass drop play. In game 1, Fantasy took the central position, allowing him to attack/harrass Flash's more numerous expos at the hinges. Then, his Wraiths denied Flash the ability to reinforce his bases with troops by shooting down. Flash tried to doom drop but it failed allowing Fantasy to destroy Flash's expos at will.
In the 2nd game, Fantasy exploited gaps in Flash's lines nicely with his signature Vulture harass. Again, he was able to take the central position and from there, neutralized Flash gradually. The 3rd game was an absolute blunder from Flash; he didn't build his Academy knowing that Wraiths were on the way.[spoiler end]
I think Fantasy deserved that finals slot. With his victory over Flash, he was 9-0, essentially undefeated in the tournament, going into the finals. He is a one-time OSL champion and 3-time runner up (now 4 with the loss to Janbi). If he won against Stork and Jaedong, he would have tied the likes of Nada and Flash with the most OSL wins ever and arguably challenge Flash for the title of best BW player ever. Lastly, he was out for revenge against the close loss to Jangbi in last year's finals.
Jangbi, otoh, is no spring chicken himself. This guy went from the lowest of lows (probably the worst slump in BW pro-gaming history) to the highest of highs (his miraculous Legends of the Fall OSL run last year was just pure epicness). He did take out Flash last year in the Ro8, beating Flash in the clincher in a sick maxed out slugfest. And who could forget his come-from-behind game 5 win against Fantasy? He almost never made it back to the finals if not for another miracle (actually two) against Zero.
Re: this year's finals. I agree that it wasn't as epic as last year. Janbi's 3 wins [spoiler start]came essentially from an unexpected carrier build, a proxy robo and a DT rush. Fantasy's lone victory came when Jangbi failed a DT rush, which was properly scouted and countered[spoiler end] But, unlike last year, I think Jangbi came in more prepared this time. Fantasy is usually known for his crazy builds during important matches, but Jangbi brought tricks of his own this time. I wouldn't necessarily call it cheese, like when Effort cheesed the hell out of Flash two years ago. But still, a fitting end to the Brood War era.
